Eagles reset RB market, extend Barkley.
FireChans replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the Eagles are gonna make a player trade. -
I said what I said. There were lots of folks on here talking about how we didn’t need a #1, we shouldn’t get a player that is going to demand 100 targets and take away from Beasley/Brown etc etc. Time really is a flat circle.

Feel like this was said pre-Diggs trade.

So yes and no. Philly’s defense was anything but elite last year. They had a really good draft with some very good contributors out of the gate, completely changed schemes, and their elite talent that they had acquired came online. They also played the game of their lives in the Super Bowl. Honestly. That will probably go down as the best defensive game in Philly franchise history. It is also unlikely to be replicated by this same group. There is an argument that with a killer draft of our own and a complete scheme change and a career year from some of our existing talent (Rousseau and Oliver), we could replicate that. But the key word is “could.” We aren’t gonna change the scheme. So that’s one part that will not happen. The odds of the killer draft AND career years is extremely low. So really, the odds of replicating what the Eagles just did is very very very low. And thus I agree with your conclusion, it ain’t gonna happen. whether or not we get Garrett. The argument for Garrett is, “are we a handful of plays away from beating the Chiefs and could Garrett make some of those plays that may make a difference?” I lean towards yes, but it’s the same argument for DK. Which is why to me, they are coinflip acquisitions. Thinking we are gonna have a first rounder and Garrett is actually impossible.

Tee Higgins franchised tagged by Bengals
FireChans replied to KingBoots8's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s actually crazy how much Burrow has campaigned for them to re-sign Tee. I wonder how much he truly understands about the business. He probably looks at the Eagles and says, “why can’t we be that” when the biggest problem is the difference in ownership. -
Why would we bother with a big money extension on a guy who needs Garrett across from him to be successful? Doesnt that just illustrate how much more important Garrett is?

He hasn’t come out and said it but he has done it once, ever. With Stef. Even Hyde and Poyer who were criminally underpaid had to wait for contract years to get extended. Micah was getting all-pro hype making $6M AAV until 2021. Poyer was making half that until 2020. If you think that doesn’t represent a clear way of doing business in general that Beane deviated from in the case of Diggs, more power to you. I strongly disagree. IMO it was a clear attempt to keep Diggs happy with WR contracts exploding. And when you pay and play with fire with a volatile WR you get burned. Ultimately, I stand by my point it is the singular worst move of Beane’s tenure. A gigantic extension that said player didn’t play a single snap on. It honestly doesn’t get much worse than that. -

So here’s the thing. i think as a general rule, paying guys 1 year before they hit market is usually smart, if they are almost assuredly players you are going to keep. We can point to teams like the Cowboys and Bengals who have cost themselves 10s of millions waiting. Especially when they would have probably paid those guys the same contracts even if they tore ACLs. Now those teams can point the Bills as a team that got burned doing things the opposite way. But still, I do think it is a overall more winning strategy. The biggest problem was the Beane broke his own rule, and gave Diggs money 2 years before he was up. And as anyone with any second of leadership experience will tell you, the second you start making exceptions is the second things blow up in your face. -

Sorry but the Diggs extension is perhaps the single biggest mistake in Beane’s tenure. It effectively cost us 1 offseason of pursuing talent to surround Josh with, which is as bad as it gets -
Gonzo Mock Draft Version 2.0 After Combine( Starts on Page 5)

The Jets taking another top 10 CB to shore up the position right before their previous top 10 CB potentially walks is sure to bring a smile to @Bill from NYC -
The Eagles somehow managed starting a couple rookies. I guess just one rookie second round pick starting was the kiss of death.
-
Yup. I know folks think there’s a WR bubble, but it’s more evidence they have become as valuable as EDGE’s across the league. The great ones without massive injury/age considerations rarely are hitting the market.
-
IMO the only way you draft a pre round 6 TE in this draft is if you think Kincaid won’t be on the roster in September. Wouldn’t hate dangling him for a trade before his value is in the toilet for a change.

Bring some UDFA bums to camp who have a shot to be better than a 26 year old league minimum guy Bring some UDFA bums to camp who have a shot to be better than a 26 year old league minimum guy

So like almost half the production in 2 less games? Wow, almost like he’s not as good. I think it’s also fair to wonder whether Diggs started dogging it when the Bills season was in danger of being over
-
Yeah that’s my point lol. Thanks for backing me up
-
There’s no data in the world that will convince mean that Diggs hasn’t significantly declined as a player. None. Zero
-
Sure but then Collins missed the next 4 so he was back to WR1
-
WR2? Im pretty sure Diggs led the Texans in targets when he got hurt.
-
His pace in Houston was 100 catches for 1054 yards. That’s fine but not elite. He’s not the same player. Those are Jakobi Meyers numbers.
-
Support your takes. Who is the player they could “do better” with? And why does this trade mean they still can’t “do better?” Just say Deebo sucks next time if that’s all you think. Of course not but it’s par for the course. If Deebo hit the market, someone would probably pay him $8-10M guaranteed. I just think draft picks are supremely overrated. There are much better odds that Deebo is good next year than whatever 5th round pick is drafted.
