But with the delta variant, and now this lambda variant, and whatever variants come next, we may be approaching a situation where it’s impossible to eradicate. You said it yourself. We got nothing for HIV or rhinoviruses. Our flu vaccine effectiveness ain’t that great. It may not be the best time to pretend we are going to pin this thing down like polio (whose vaccine effectiveness was 99% in preventing infection btw). But what do I know. Flu vaccines have been completely unable to eradicate the influenza virus in the way that other vaccines have. Furthermore, they have most certainly NOT been able to deprive the virus of hosts, with that whole 50-70% effective thing every season. Your problem is that you probably just read your sons’ “Intro to Bio and other fun things too” textbook and you think you have it all figured out.
