Most of the top 5 coaches have great QB’s and most of the bottom 5 have terrible QB’s. Not surprising. Good “decisions” don’t come in a vacuum.

Just wait until week 4, or 5, or 6, or 7, or 8, or 9, or 10, or 11 when the tape finally comes out and you’ll see. The tape catches up a lot faster than that. Look at Mike White who played 1.5 games until his career ended.

Mac is playing very good football and has been very impressive as a rookie. That being said, I’m just not that sold on him. He really doesn’t throw that many wow balls or have incredible plays that other QB’s demonstrate. That back shoulder fade in the EZ last week was an incredible ball, and an incredible decision, but there’s not a ton of that. I think he will end up in the Carr/Cousins spectrum of a good NFL starter, can QB a good team to the playoffs, but can’t elevate. Which, honestly, is good enough. As an aside, I think he is lucky to be in NE. As a general rule, when “smart” QB’s get hit a bunch and are down 20 at half, they quickly go from “smart” to “scared.” Mac’s contemporary in Miami can tell you all about it.

I didn’t even intend this topic to discuss Allen as much as how the offense is still really good, despite the eye test indicating that our offense is worse than last year. How can I be ignoring those games when I included every game he’s played? Your solution to one set of data being incomplete is to make both incomplete? Incredible statistic work. Why are you cherry picking 11 data points instead of 16 from last year? Josh’s passing statistics are his efficiency statistics. YPA, TD% etc. These are all efficiency statistics! I basically wrote in my OP that Josh’s stats are a little worse but he’s playing great and our offense is still great. Did you even read it?

Honestly that would require such a deep dive into variance to be statistically significant, I don’t have the effort in me to do it. Bar napkin style, you could look at trends in our point totals per game and compare averages but I just don’t know how valid it would be. Off the top of my head, I would say, like most posters have echoed, we really turned it on for the last stretch of 2020. In early games where we scored a bunch, like the Rams, our offense went to sleep in the second half which enabled them to come back. You can say Allen is not as sharp this year because of the OL inconsistency. I wouldn’t even disagree. But he still isn’t as sharp this year. Why would anyone use less data points from 2020 to make a comparison? The more data points is better. Obviously, having both full seasons to compare would be great, but I don’t know the future. I completely disagree. You need to compare to the other teams in the NFL, otherwise, the numbers don't mean much.
