Exactly, Mike. On the flip side, I was pretty confident Leveon Bell was making a mistake with his holdout in Pittsburgh. As a RB and dealing with the Steelers, it seemed he was already getting the best offer possible. And sure enough, a year later, he took less money to end up with a crappy organization.

Somehow, this didn’t cross the mind of Melvin Gordon who managed even worse.

On topic, how is this really possible? Isn’t the tag language pretty concrete in its positional pay model? Can we tag a player and try to negotiate down their position?

I’ll hold off on the TT/JA comparisons until Josh’s fourth year in the league.

In the meantime I’m shocked, SHOCKED! that Taylor’s stats were better with Woods and Wadkins in the game.

I wonder if any of Allen’s receivers will look to get away from playing with him like Woods, who couldn’t get away from Taylor fast enough.

The fact that TT’s stats were better with his top two WR’s was never the issue, it was the fact that was used to prop him up as someone better than he was.

At least Woods kept his mouth shut. Diggs will let us know by week 3 if he’s unhappy.

Although, IIRC Woods was the first player who gave up on EJ. I think he started digging it vs Houston, right?

We used any and all data to discuss Tyrod. I remember it well.

My opinion on him never changed: he was good enough to win games with, but he was limited.

You don’t feel that the situations are dramatically different? One was a 4-year vet when he came here who never improved as a passer. The other Has played 2 years and showed significant progress in year 2 despite a lackluster supporting cast.

The situations are different. The usual contortionists contort regardless of the situation.

    *other than Josh Allen*

is still tough to assess. If he’s the QB of note in 9 wins this season -which is frankly expected, he moves into 4th Place all time in QB wins behind the other 3 J’s of team history, Jackie, Jimbo & Joe. And he’ll do it in UNDER 3 seasons!

Yes, it’s a team stigma we’ll likely never outlive, but that’s 61 years of play to overcome for a 23 y/o farm boy with no prior legit coaching.

Knox & Milano are lovable ‘lunchboxers’, Tre & Tremaine are fantastic, Stefon is thrilling.

But Josh Allen is simply an enigma.

I almost couldn’t believe this stat.

This reminds of the Tyrod days when people argued he was good because his stats were great when Watkins and Woods both started and finished games.

The capacity for contortion acts on this board is incredible. Imagine if TBD’s used that brain power for good? We could probably solve world hunger, rather than argue that Josh is good passing on third and long because we convert 80% of the time when we’re on the left hash and John Brown is lined up on the right.

Jesus H! It never ceases to amaze how poorly Bills fans are at math. We gave up 1 (One!) 1st round pick. We used the other One to select him.

I was at the previous game in Houston, watching Orton just sit there on the bench by himself the whole game while Manuel destroyed any chance he may have had playing in the pros. Next week, Orton is starting @ Detroit and delivers yet another last second, come from behind win -albeit with the help of a 52 yard fg. He played better than any other Bills qb during the drought except for Bledsoe’s 1st year. I was bummed when he up & quit right after the final game, but had no issue with Marrone doing so soon after.

Add those picks together and what number do you get?

If we only gave up 1 1st round pick for Sammy, did we give up zero for Shaq Lawson? How many did we trade for Diggs?

    Bad at math indeed.

Lamar wasn't really bad in year 1, though.

I don't know if Daboll deserves credit or not. I really don't. He might, I just don't know. He's never had a good offense in the NFL, but then he's never had a lot of talent to work with. I'm a little concerned that he is running a very complex scheme, but maybe it will all be fine.

I KNOW that Allen deserves a lot of credit because I see him out there making plays and his potential, ability, and athleticism are easy to see.

Like I said, I haven't made up my mind on Daboll. I think after this year I will.

    He was compared to 2019.

Either way, I don’t think that supports the opposing argument. If LJ went from decent to MVP, he’s got an even BETTER chance of being a good QB.

  8. 1 minute ago, MJS said:

Allen can easily be a 4000 yard, 30 TD passer in the next year or two. He can even easily get over that mythical 60% completion percentage.

Not much needs to change for that to happen. Hopefully Daboll is actually a good OC and won't hold Allen and the offense back. Haven't made my mind up on him yet.

If Allen went from a kid who could barely score a TD at Wyoming to someone who can easily throw for 4K yards and 30 TD’s, maybe let’s give Dabs some credit.

You see no reason to conclude Josh Allen isn’t going to be great? I like Josh but that’s a ridiculous statement at this point.

Hes not even in the top half of the league for starting QBs. He does make incredible plays and then follows it up with a WTF was that throw in the dirt or over someone’s head. He’s not consistently good yet which is what separates the good/great QBs from the bad or average ones.

My favorite part of that post was when he said Josh’s progress from year 1 to 2 was ignored, and then ignored Lamar going from bad to MVP in year 1 to 2.

Dan Orlovsky is a fair weather analyst. He crapped all over Josh Allen before he was drafted and then started singing his praises after Allen looked like a playmaker and a fan favourite (at least in Buffalo). He seems to play to whatever crowd is in the room. He sucked as a QB and why he quickly became this sort of QB Swamy I’ll never know.

Dan Orlovsky on the 2018 QB draft class

    “Josh Allen

Listen, this is not a personal attack on Josh Allen. I don’t even know the kid. But there’s a lot of talk about him being in play for the No. 1 pick, and I just don’t see it. Before I can consider him as a potential No. 1 pick — or even a top 10 pick — I need somebody to give me a reason other than he’s big and he throws it far. I mean, Bradley Chubb, the defensive end from NC State … he’s big, and I bet he could throw a football pretty far, too. Does that mean you’re taking him No. 1 to be your quarterback?

There’s just a massive, massive difference in the NFL between being a thrower and playing quarterback. You have to understand the game. You have to understand defenses. You have to understand the problem the defense is presenting you with and identify the opportunities.

    Let’s look at the tape.“

“I love his size, like everybody does. And I love his arm. He can throw it on a rope. But unlike Ben Roethlisberger, or Tony Romo, or Steve McNair — other guys who dominated at smaller schools and then dominated in the NFL — when did Josh Allen ever dominate in college? He didn’t face the kind of competition that the other quarterbacks on this list faced, and they all dominated. And for me to take a guy from a small school in the top five or even the top 10, I need to see that he dominated.“

I think that’s actually pretty fair analysis. I can’t think of a successful QB who was drafted in the top 10 or top 5 who didn’t dominate at a small school.

I’m locked in at McDermott +2000 to win COY and Bills +130 to win the AFC East. I also have a small bet on the Bills to win the Super Bowl at +4000 because I have to.

I remember when you made that post about storylines and the MVP. In my opinion, the storylines matter WAYYY more for COY. McD has a really good shot if he dethrones the Pats in style and the Bills rattle off 11-12 wins and the AFCE title.

He stated his opinion about Tua. He isn't saying that every single QB who has ever taken a snap in the NFL is automatically better than a rookie.

And he did about Burrow. Lol.

His opinion stinks and he’s far from alone.

or, I was being sarcastic on burrow.

But I should expect that kind of subtlety to be lost on the likes of you.

Why would you be sarcastic? The argument is the exact same as the one you actually believe.

  12. 1 minute ago, MJS said:

No. Nobody is saying that. You are arguing something that nobody else is arguing. I think you are trying to make some kind of dumb point but really you are just being dumb. Both Tua and Stidham are unknown.

    Hi MJS. Meet Joe.

Tua has accomplished NOTHING at the NFL level, and given the history of Alabama QBs in the NFL, he's likely NEVER to.

    Bad take.
