The odds of getting Garrett not zero two days ago. they are zero today. Right now. The argument was correct lol. No one was arguing that signing Rousseau prevented us from giving Joey Bosa a 1 year prove it deal. In fact, that may be the plan. It wouldn’t have been my plan. This is dirty pool. If we got Garrett or Hendrickson, you would take a victory lap. If we didn’t get either (which we won’t fyi), you would just say “well we got Joey Bosa for $12M”. You can’t lose lol. The Rousseau extension was a sign the Bills were never getting a $30M+ EDGE this offseason. Now maybe they COULDN’T and chose to extend Rousseau as an alternative. But that’s what the extension meant to me. THAT’S why it decreased the odds. It meant that avenue wasn’t available, one way or another.

I have no problem extending DK at this stage of the game. Especially if the choice is to give Amari $18M as an alternative. Worry about cap hits in 2028. Go win.

Well see, when I said “this extension is evidence the Bills aren’t gonna get Garrett” and you say “no that’s not true” and then of course the Bills don’t get Garrett, that’s kinda the end of it. Sure maybe the Bills get a Bosa or a Mack instead. Cool. Whatever. Garrett > Rousseau + whoever else they drag up combined. Which was the whole point.

I really admire your optimism. But I think to most of the folks that don’t like the deal, it is because they see this deal as closing the door on truly upgrading the EDGE position either through FA or trade. I think the odds that Garrett or Hendrickson is a Bill in 2025 went down after yesterday. You think it went up, but most of us just don’t see it.

Yeah. I don’t see this extension and Garrett happening now. I would have rather traded a 1st and a 2nd and paid Garrett $34M than paid Rousseau $20M.

If they don’t, I’m very sure Beane will say “we prioritized getting all our guys back” Which is why I hate this extension.

You should watch the AFCCG again and focus on Rousseau. If I seem harsh, it’s because he deserves it. He was flat out awful. Not only did Jawan Taylor take his lunch money (and we all know that he isn’t an OT worth a damn) but on the rare plays where Rousseau did penetrate the backfield, he got flat out beat in pass pro and legitimately pancaked by Kareem Hunt lol. So yeah, that’s why I said it. Because it’s what happened.

Um 3 AFCW teams were in the playoffs last year.

The Bears overpaying for guys with more potential than production is kinda what they do. Their roster has been awful and they have money to burn. If the bar is “better than the Bears,” sure it’s good business. They have certainly been a well-run and stable group for a long time.

lol I called the Shakir extension excellent. You hear what you want to hear. Sorry I didn’t like the idea of paying an 6-8 sack per year guy $20M last year and I still didn’t like it this year. i will try to adjust my opinions accordingly to what the Bills do so I always like whatever happens!

But that’s kind of the point right? Greenard and Highsmith both had individual seasons where they had DE1 production PRIOR to getting paid. Sure, they weren’t necessarily going to replicate that year in or out but there was the proven upside. If we are taking odds on which guys finish their careers with more double digit sack seasons, both Greenard and Highsmith are more likely than Greg, right? I said it last offseason. I was hoping Greg took off and had 12-14 sacks and put the conversation about extending to rest. I would’ve rather him had a 14 sack year and paid him $30M than have his usual 8 and pay him $20M. I stand by that. Beane has extended two drafted EDGEs, given a pass rushing DT a big extension and signed another EDGE to a large FA deal in the last 3 or 4 seasons and our biggest need is STILL pass rush. THATS bad business

Um Greenard is coming off two years of 12 sack seasons. Highsmith had a 14.5 sack season not too long ago and had 6 in 11 games last year. Bryce Huff is an overpaid pass rush specialist who was a non-factor for his new team. So we are really paying Greg in that “two guys who are considerably more impactful than him and one of the worst overpays of the offseason last year” range. The bottom line is that most of us would rather pay Garrett $35M than Greg $20M. It’s more valuing 4 quarters over a dollar and it’s bad strategy if done too much imo.

Damar Hamlin led all Bills safeties in tackles, TFLs and INT’s. Do we open negotiations with $20M or $25M AAV?

Good thing we didn’t tie up a bunch of money in another good but not great player like Ed Oliver who isn’t even good enough to help Rousseau’s production. oh
