Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers
Bruffalo replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was good when he had Luck. I still would have loved to see him be our OC. -
Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread
Bruffalo replied to hellofellowbillsfans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sacrifice so media outlets like WGR can say "See, they're making changes. You know what I mean?" even though Frazier will still trot out the most basic scheme that relies on our players just being substantially better than theirs. -
You can't trust the defense in football. Any defense, not just the Bills. The game is heavily skewed to offense. Going against that and putting your hope in the side that's inherently disadvantaged is foolish.

Why title your thread about Dawkins and then write more about the defense?

I'm not happy with McD right now either but I don't realistically think you could get anyone to replace him that would be an upgrade. He's a top 10 coach in the NFL, arguably a top 5. The best course of action is to replace the defensive coordinator with somebody young and aggressive, which would balance nicely with McD's conservative nature. I don't know what you do with OC. Frankly, I'm not excited to see Dorsey again but I can understand that it's probably a long shot that he gets fired. I'd love to see Reich in at OC, proven successful OC in big time situations.

It definitely should have never happened, but I felt better about the team and our prospects moving forward. With how ugly this loss was, and how utterly unprepared the coaching staff seemingly was, I just don't feel good about the state of the team. The Bills will still be good, but until the coordinators get shipped out I don't trust the coaches to get this team into the best positions to win games.

Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"
Bruffalo replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I hate to be that guy, but come on. The whole city and fanbase has had to deal with a lot of crap all season too, but we don't get mental health excuses on the most important days of our livelihoods either. The coaching staff should have tailored a gameplan sensing the "low energy/morale" in the room too. Set it up so the offense gets going easy, do some stunts to get a few hits on the QB. Ease them into game and let them get into rhythm. Instead we had that abomination of a gameplan that relied on Allen doing it all and then some. It's a failure of the coaching staff to recognize and adjust plans accordingly. -
Again, I agree. Lot of folks have been calling for O-Line investment for multiple drafts. I was so disappointed when we drafted Basham instead of Humphrey, and I really wanted the Bills to grab Trey Smith as well. Both went to the chiefs and have been productive additions. I don't trust the team to make the kind of investments you're talking about. I, maybe cynically, really think that we're seeing a Cam Newton 2.0 career arc. That being said, I expect the Bills offense to still be great to elite next season.

McBeane's constant use of premium draft picks on role players
Bruffalo replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is it. Rousseau is good, maybe even with the potential to be great, but he's never going to be a #1 DE. He needs a guy like Von to take the attention away from him so he can produce. It's really not surprising for a DE at his draft position. -
How many Josh Allen prime years do they want to waste?
Bruffalo replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Influenced? Absolutely. Final say? Certainly not. -

Never said it was ideal or I agreed with the thought process. -

I'm not pissed if I'm Allen. Maybe disappointed, but the man has 250 million reasons to not be pissed. He's not the coach, he doesn't make the decisions on drafting or personnel. He's doing his best, putting it all on the line, with the little support he has. -
More than he rightly should, but he probably deserves another chance or two. The coordinators though? Ehh, I think they should get the boot now rather than later. Do I think it'll happen? No.

Where was the leadership - Von Miller?
Bruffalo replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
As good as Von was on the field it felt like from his podcast/interviews that he was still second guessing his decision to go to Buffalo. I'm not sure that's as invested in this team as we'd like to think he is. -
McBeane's constant use of premium draft picks on role players
Bruffalo replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
There needs to be a fundamental shift in draft strategy moving forward, because it's obvious that drafting on defense and spending next to nothing on offense isn't working. Knox has done a ton more for the team than Bernard, Basham, and probably Elam (at this point) combined. Offense is how you win in the modern football league. Period. -
This is a little too much doom and gloom, frankly. The Bills have beaten Baltimore, the Chargers HC is just as bad as ours, probably worse, and Jacksonville looks fine but not some top tier team. The Jets are a complete hypothetical if they can find the hardest position to find in modern football, and Miami completely relies on timing throws in order to be effective.

Is McDermott or Frazier the Architect of the Defensive Scheme?
Bruffalo replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
They both deserve a lot of flak. McD goes on and on in each presser about how the Bills need to learn and grow from mistakes, but there's zero accountability as far as we can tell. There's no self-reflection on this team. McD can't even evaluate his own talent effectively. Can anyone tell me with a straight face that Dane Jackson needed to be in for the majority of that game over Elam? -
I'm still gutted the next day by this. I'm smart enough to realize this is irrational, but I'm too emotionally invested in this team considering I have no ability to effect the outcome. I hate, hate, hate that the only reasoning we've gotten is "we didn't have the energy, we came out flat". The fact that the team was unmotivated is a direct condemnation on the coaching staff. The whole city, hell WNY is behind the Bills, and the players aren't invested in the outcome. That's a failure of leadership. I'm worried this is all we're gonna be able to do. We will have some fun years like the Chargers but never do anything of note, I guess it's better than the drought but it still feels just gross.
