  1. So I ask,

    1. Will Tre play by October, and if so, what is his performance ceiling this year - 90% of last year?
    2. Is drafting Jameson Williams worth the risk?  Does he fully recover and do we need him playing early this year as much as next?

With Diggs locked up, and a need for a good outside #2-3 WR, I'd say the Bills lean towards a WR who can play early this year rather than go with Williams for the future - especially with this appearing to be an "all in" year.

We have seen players come back from Tre's injury in relatively short order in recent years, but Tre is a CB and he relies on cutting and changing direction more than any player out there.

Everybody is saying late October, early November for a Tre return.

But what if his rehab is coming along very swimmingly according to McDermott and could be ready for week one.

Does this change everything or is a CB still high on your list?

Smokescreen. Bills know they have a hole at Corner. Not looking to draw additional attention.

    Say Wat?

Rosen was mercilessly criticized and put down in the media for his off-field antics that indicated a certain degree of entitlement (setting up a hot tub in his room) and willingness to be abrasive with his personal political views (wearing a F*** president's name cap).  There were also rumors and questions about his intangibles - his leadership in the locker room and abilities to get along with others.

Where he was praised, was not for his "social pedigree", but for his actual on-field football performance with St John Bosco (5 star recruit) then with UCLA, where he set records for 300 yd games and at one point, led the nation in various football stats.

If his actual football skills and football IQ had translated to the NFL, I'm sure he'd still be criticized and dissected for his off-field deportment, fair or unfair.

But they didn't - the day of the relatively immobile pocket passer who can throw beautifully when on-platform, may be done

There was note of his father being Dr. Charles Rosen, famous spine surgeon who went to U Penn and his mother who went to Dartmouth and played lacrosse.  Josh was UCLA of course and his political commentary was, to some, admirable.

I think the negative blowback you mention was something continued to grow with time and coverage. Maybe I'd say his cocky draft night statement was the tipping point for his reputation.

I figured Darnold and Mayfield would be gone by the time the Bills picked, so that left me wanting Rosen. I didn't want Jackson because of the Tyrod years. I just wanted an NFL passer, not a running back who could also pass sometimes.

The media told me not to like Allen, so I didn't. I don't watch college, so I gain my opinions from the talking heads and watching highlights and stuff. They convinced me that he was too erratic and that nobody could ever overcome a sub 60% college completion percentage. They also talked up Rosen a lot.

The media also fell in love with Rosen's apparent social pedigree and "intelligence".

  5. Do the Bills stand a better chance of getting three starters by trading up and ending up with (say) only 4 total picks or keeping all their picks and assuming the hit percentage is better with numbers?  When you trade up, losing picks is a certainty.  Knowing that the picks you move up for are worth it is far from certain.  I'm in favor of whatever strategy gets more starters on rookie contracts.

Josh Allen was bad his rookie year but only in the way a lot of rookies are bad their rookie year. I actually thought it was a very encouraging season because all the playmaking ability was there to see. He struggled with the processing a bit and he took off to run too often but there was lots to like about his rookie year.

Ducasse, Bovine, and Mills were not who you would field to help your rookie QB.  That Allen improved rather than implode that year was very impressive.

9 months from the end of November would be end of August, not July

Jost a note that per SOP in athletic treatment these days, his surgery occurred 3 weeks later, Dec. 15 or 16.

    So add 3 weeks - mid-September earliest

It would much to assume that he'll start game 1, get full snaps, and run 17 games plus playoffs.

  8. Bundling picks, trading up, and assuming all of your reduced number of picks will make the team seems as much hubris as logical.  Other than maneuvering for a QB, I like using all the picks and getting those players into the Bills camp and culling them after you've worked with them through camp.  Wouldn't you want to look at players extensively in your own system before eliminating them from consideration?

I think this tells a really interesting story.

    Von Miller's contract is effectively a 3-year $17.5M/yr deal.

Past 3 years of Bills Defensive Ends and what they were paid:

    2021:

    Jerry Hughes: $9.45M

    Mario Addison: $8.1M

    Rousseau ~$2M

    Basham ~$1M

    Epenesa ~$1M

    2020:

    Mario Addison: $9.97M

    Trent Murphy: $9.78M

    Jerry Hughes: $9.5M

    Epenesa ~1M

    2019:

    Jerry Hughes: $12.9M

    Trent Murphy: $8.8M

    Shaq Lawson: $3.2M

Pairing Von with Rousseau, Basham, and Epenesa not only upgrades the position, but actually decreases our total edge rusher spending as well.

Shows the importance of rookie contracts.

How do you explain our worst game defensively being without Edmunds? Look, I can’t argue against the fact he doesn’t make plays. I also don’t see a lot of plays being made against Edmunds. So it goes both ways.

We all believe a Mike backer is supposed to be around the ball every play and that definitely isn’t Edmunds. I don’t know what they’re asking of Edmunds. I would love to hear McDermott explain what they expect from Edmunds.

To me it seems like he’s a MLB version of a 2 gap NT. What’s I meant by that is they use his size and length to clog passing lanes. That seems to be his job.
