I don't think Beane et. al. are in the business of providing extensions with significant money attached simply to boost morale. They are didactic in their process to build and maintain culture, but not at the expense of the Cap hell Beane had to live with and pull out of the second year he was the GM. I believe they value their players, and you can see that in all of the contracts given to their Drafted players, but they limit the amount of restrictions they place on themselves so they can continue to be nimble enough to respond to unforeseen circumstances, to the best of their ability. JMO...

I'd say Poyer was saved by the culture more than he defined it.  Additionally, his wife has argued salary on social media (something that indirectly reflects on Jordan).  Poyer gets paid for his excellent play and less so because he's a Lorenzo Alexander or Kyle Williams.

Still my favorite defensive player until I see someone overtake him.  Probably the biggest hitter on D lb for lb.

If they want their best 11 players on the field, Taron Johnson won't be swapped out for Bernard all that often. So not a 50/50 split. I think he'll be used very situationally.

Makes me wonder if the Bills will vary or evolve their defense this year or leave it as it has been. Primarily thinking about using 3 LBs and playing man coverage more.

Further evidence re: State of OL play in the NFL

For all the hand wringing here, at least we're not in a position to where we need to claim Luke Tenuta or Tanner Owen.

I follow the Tech players a little since a few friends went to VT.  Didn't really get the Tenuta pick.  Tommy Doyle had very high athleticism marks so you felt he had the ability to become a good player.  Tenuta really only had size by my understanding.

I'll bite... is this sarcasm lol. I've noticed him negatively a ton. Doyle was like Spencer Brown, super high upside athletically but raw. I believe Tenuta has one of the worst athleticism scores on our team

I didn't get that pick either.  Size without athleticism.

He probably is, but why risk having him do it in a meaningless pre-season game?

Also, based on one of the Training Camp reports, Josh Allen is probably your most capable back-up punter. Wouldn't that be wild  - stupid, but fun for a moment.

    Like Danny White of Dallas.

Didn't seem to give anything away to me.  He'll get more comfortable the more he does it.  I'm betting Josh runs less this year.  Just think they would like to protect him better.

Josh is a fighter and goes for the extra yards.  Don't mind him running on a scramble but the designed runs will just mean more hits on Allen.

    Agree.

Hot take:  Daboll was comfortable running Josh to help his (Daboll's) career.  Pegs/Beane want a 10+ year career out of Josh so less running and leaping.  Nothing against Josh exploiting the obvious gaping holes.

I don't think this regime will ever burn another 1st round pick on a LB unless someone transformative falls in their lap. I can see Tremaine having a decent contract year but I wouldn't hold my breath for too many wow splash plays. Maybe Sean thought he could turn him into Keuckly which was never going to happen. I would let him walk and put all that money toward Poyer, Oliver and Knox. Bernard & Dodson can hold down the fort.

Looking forward to seeing Terrel Bernard play and whether he has instincts and big play ability in the NFL.

Personally, one of the worst for me was last years opener. A superbowl contending team that we hadnt gotten to see in person for 2 seasons and they laid a complete clunker. And it was personal for me living in Erie, Pa.  Right on the outskirts of "stiller" country. IMO the most self righteous fan base in all of the NFL.

    That one STUNG.

I remember that as having a good dose of 4-wide and empty backfield and not liking it.  It was a game or two and that was reigned in.

Caffeine and alcohol are drugs is the weakest argument I’ve ever heard in my life. But if you want to go with that. Whatever.

All drugs are bad imo. They are doing nothing but degrading society, and these days, at incredible rates. There was once a war on drugs. (maybe some of it was political) but it was beneficial at the time, for many years.

    • Mixed messages from society/govt.  Smoking tobacco very bad.  Smoking weed awesome - legalize it everywhere and celebrate.  Drinking alcohol ??
    • People forfeiting employment because they can't pass a drug test.  Contractors can't find help to show up for work without being high.  A local concrete contractor talked about a "lost generation".
    • Idle hands and a purposeless life beg for trouble.
    • Re football, pain management will continue to be a part of the sport for pros.  Nobody takes repeated shots from monsters of men without paying a price.  I expect pain management will be aggressively addressed by the more functional teams.

  10. Kelly had great accuracy on the deep arcing passes, slants, and short-area dumps to RBs.  These resulted in Lofton/Beebe bombs, Reed RAC yards from being hit in stride, and smooth execution of screens to Thurman.   I mention these as they have not been Allen's early career strong points.  Kelly also very accurate threading the ball between defenders - more so anyway in his earlier years.  Sometimes prone to missing the underneath coverage.  Kelly a great "touch" passer IMO.
