I don't care if I have to wear a wetsuit and a viking helmet. Whatever it takes.

Terrorism takes center stage again
Kevbeau replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
For the first time in history a foreign flag flew in front of the US State Department today in remembrance of those killed in London. I saw a pic of policemen hoisting the Union Jack in DC somewhere on the net. Will link if I can find it again. Here's the link to a blog that has the photo. http://www.publiuspundit.com/?p=1319 -
Impressive, but my only question is...Why???

Police DWI Checkpoints/MADD
Kevbeau replied to Bill from NYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hmmmm...as one poster previously stated, I can't fault a person who has lost a loved one because of a reckless and avoidable act. Having said that, they have no business being at a police checkpoint. I think we all agree driving while intoxicated should be punished, but I personally happen to find MADD's motives/methods to be suspect and invasive. In fact we used them as a case study in a grad level stats course I took last year. Professor was Dutch, so I'll assume his intent was to point out their ridiculous use of statistics and the suspect math that goes along with it, as opposed to just railing on MADD. Due to the large distances we have to drive to get to bars in Atlanta (sprawl sucks) my buddies and I are strict about having a DD. Every now and then we run into a checkpoint (I've heard they bag more people who don't have insurance than they to drunk drivers.) We just ask the officer if the driver can take the breathalyzer and avoid the stupid human tricks. I believe that they need to establish probable cause before they give you the breathalyzer (hence the field sobriety test)...unless you give consent. I'll look for civilians next time. -

Don't bother me why I'm working. I don't come down to the docks and knock the sailor's d!cks out of your mouth, do I? I know...two lines. But it still makes me laugh. -

This place looks like a real blight. That's how San Diego was able to claim eminent domain. It's scheduled to be razed for a new Marriott. http://www.granhavana.com/cafeimages/index.htm I think the Supreme Court had a chance to stand up for the little guy and do what's right. Instead they wiped their nose with the Constitution and handed it to Karl Marx.

Master Shake: That's a deep kiss too, like the Europeans. You know, the French, they have to unhinge their jaw to show love. Frylock: You know what tonight is? Carl: Yeah the night I'm downloading porn at 14 kilobytes a second! Carl: Ha! I'm just kidding. I got a cable modem back here. Frylock: Where do you think our TVs come from? Master Shake: Jesus? Meatwad: No. It's Santa Clause. Master Shake: It's the same thing. Meatwad: No, it ain't. And I should know. I'm Jewish. [pause] Meatwad: From this day forward. Good friend of mine used to produce this show. The guys who created are hilarious.

"Scenario" by Tribe Called Quest remains my favorite rap song of all time. Overplayed in its time perhaps but... "Bo knows this and Bo knows that. But Bo don't know jack 'cause Bo can't rap!"

I've just had my cousin grab me tix for the opener and Denver, so that's two trips up from Atlanta. As for the KC game, I've heard Chiefs fans travel well. However given the option I believe it would be best to keep the red to a minimum.

The town I live in has a ridiculous amount of golf cart paths. You can pretty much get to anyplace in town on a golf cart...oh yeah my point. The cops hand out a ton of DUI's for operating golf carts under the influence.

Your Favorite (best) and worst President Ever?
Kevbeau replied to Buckey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Go back and read my post again. I explicitly say this. I realize that it's a foolhardy position in the long run. [Looking at my post I can see how it came across that I listed it as a "benefit"] As for who's benefiting. Large to mid-size companies mostly (We realize a profit increase of about 1.3 billion/year because of the weak dollar). Companies who do business exclusively within the US are most likely hurting. People B word about the dollar's value versus the Euro & Yen, but the reality is that valuation does not follow economic growth. All indications are that the dollar is stabilized and should be on the uptick (it was at a ten month high versus the Euro last week I haven't looked this week) -

Actually, the dollar is strengthening and the economy has been growing at a decent rate for almost two years now. That's one of the reasons we're seeing higher gas prices. Two, it's not always a bad thing to have a weak dollar. Actually it can be beneficial short term, you just have to watch that it doesn't turn into a long term crash. In fact, the Bush administration has allowed the dollar to remain weak as it helps them operate with a high deficit (eventually unsustainable). Plus, it allows American products and services to be more competetive in the global marketplace ("goosing" the economy"), so it's been in this administration's best interest to have a weak dollar. It's been somewhat intentional not just because "he doesn't know what he's doing." -
Offense: Frank Lewis (the epitome of class and a hell of a reciever to boot) Defense: Ben Williams (Big Ben was at his peak right about the time I started to truly follow the Bills.)

Temperature wise, it's been cooler than ususal here in Atlanta. However it's been raining half the time. Usually, low to mid 90's and high humidity is the norm. Quoting my girlfriend's dad (visiting from Rochester)..."You live in hell." Maybe some of our AZ wallers can add to this, but I heard that with all the lawns and golf courses being put in around Phoenix, the humidity is starting to rise???

Going to Chicago with the wife...
Kevbeau replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always enjoy the Field Museum and the Shedd. Plus they're by Navy Pier. For Blues, try out Kingston Mines. Been there a couple times during conventions. They ususally have two acts a night playing. For lodging...if you can find a good deal, stay at the Palmer House for one night. Rooms are allright, but the lounge/lobby area is amazing and lavish (think robber-baron era.) -
(OT) Are we Americans spoiled and lazy?
Kevbeau replied to Tolstoy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Somewhat related to this thread, but it does point out China's thirst for resources and what they'll do to get ahead. The company I work for was losing something to the tune of 20 million a year in plastic pallets, crates, totes, etc. We end up getting involved in an FBI investigation involving numerous companies having the same problem and come to find out the Chinese have set up shop in Minneapolis...are stealing all sorts of industrial use plastic items, grinding them up and shipping the regrind to China to help meet their plastic demand. I never did find out if the FBI was able to determine if the enterprise was set up by the PRC's gov't or just individuals. -
