MOULDS TO EAGLES FOR OWENS

The two people behind me at work won't shut the hell up. They're just yapping away about nothing. I usually keep an old pair of headphones around so they'll think I'm listening to music and won't bug me, or try to talk to me. Damn them for ruining my day. It's bad enough I'm at work, but having to listen to this all day is driving me crazy. I am screaming obscenities in my head right now. Shut up! Why won't you shut the hell up! Dear god, let this end. -
You could tie it into the fans at the game. Have the fans vote on what play they should run. Now, instead of just screaming "GO FOR IT!!" at fourth and one, with a push of the button...Bingo...Roscoe throws an incomplete pass to Shelton in the flat. The fans will have no one to blame but themselves.

I don't think they should hire any coaches. Just trot the players out there and let the chips fall as they may. I bet they'd at least go 6-10.

Looks like one of the biggest Pats cheerleaders doesn't think the Pats were a dynasty either. Dynasty? A new, teenage coach for the Jets. Pats in decline. Miami is Miami. It's starting to look good for the Bills in the AFCE. -
Did the change in schedule ruin the Olympics?
Johnny Coli replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think letting professional atheletes play in some of the significant sporting events ruined it for me. I also hate the human interest stories, the constant cutting away from events to watch people cry on a podium, and the idiotic montages. One big thing is there's no hated rivals anymore. No USSR. China? Big deal. The lack of fascists and commies has ruined sports, IMO. We need a good, old fashioned dictator to come along and get the Olympic Games back on track. We should keep a few questionable regimes in power just to make the games exciting again. -

This is a common misconception about the Pats. They won 10 games over a 5 year stretch, really. 3 in '01 no playoffs in '02 3 in '03 3 in '04 1 in '05 So, not even getting into the playoffs in '02 inflates this "record". Had they gotten in, they would have no doubt lost at some point, thus making their string of wins only 7. We can all agree that this year's win over the Jags was kind of a joke. So, their string of consecutive playoff victories against teams with a chance is really 6. If a team wins the Superbowl one year, then doesn't make the playoffs for five years, and then wins it again, they could have 6 straight wins in the playoffs. Big deal. I will give the Pats credit for the 18 months covering the '03 and '04 seasons. But how many other teams are "consistent" over an 18 month period? Let's look at the hated Dallas Cowboys. From '91 to '96 they went 12-3 in the playoffs, with 3 SB wins in 4 years ('92, '93, '95) . Unlike the Pats, though, the Cowboys actually went to the playoffs in the year between SB win #2 and SB win #3 (1994). According to Pats fans, the Cowboys should be penalized for actually having a good enough team to actually get into the post season, yet not win it all. The Cowboys playoff win streaks are as follows: W, L 7 W (including 2 straight SBs) then a Loss (in the NFC championship game) 4 W (including a SB) then a loss So the Cowboys are consistent for almost 6 years, an NFC championship game loss from going to 4 straight Superbowls, playing in an era when the NFC was dominant, and the Pats are consistent for 18 months in a period of mediocrity. Yup. The Pats are a Dynasty, all right. PS. I hate you for making me compare the Cowboys and Pats. You owe me. -

What is a bit irksome to me is this talk of dominance and playoff win streaks. The Pats dominated no one in 2001...got by Oakland with a questionable call, needed Bledsoe to take care of the Steelers, and needed an egomaniac in Martz to abandon the run in the Superbowl. That's not very dominating. They didn't even make the playoffs in 2002...that's not very dominating. I will give them '03-'04...but that's a mere 18 months, really. They were dominating for 18 months. In '05, they benefitted from playing in the weakest division in football and went 3-6 against teams with winning records. There's your 10 wins. Hardly dominating. The Jags playoff victory was a joke because they benefited from playing a hobbled QB. They ended the season, including playoffs, 4-7 ahaginst teams with winning records. So, I see maybe 18 months of solid football at best. As for the playoff streak...it's not like this was done over consecutive seasons. They didn't even play a postseason game in '02. So, if a team wins three games and the SB, misses the playoffs for a few years, gets in and wins the SB, there's 6 playoff wins in a row. If they get in the following year, win two, and lose the conference game, that's 8 in a row. I just don't see the big deal in this 10 game winning streak. Also, it's not like 3 SBs in 4 years has never been done before. Dallas just did it 10 years ago, and they did it far more convincingly than the Pats. Look, you had a good team. Good for you. But, really, your team hasn't been good in 12 months. I just don't see them returning to their '03-'04 form, and I don't see the AFCE being as weak as it has been in recent years. Your "run" is over. You can now go back to your "Yankees Suck" chants in the Foxboro parking lots. -

They're already out of Shockey and Barber jerseys here in Cambridge, and the emergency rooms are filling up with fans hurting themselves jumping from the Pats bandwagon to the Giants one. I hit three fans with my car this morning that jumped and missed. The side of the road is littered with them. -
First Major new album of 2006 to be released..
Johnny Coli replied to The Dean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate them both. I won't even get into why record company support for a bloated classic rock musician is ruining music as a whole. I will however question why Gilmour would feel the need to release part of a song. I would think an aging artist with a fading/dwindling fan base would jump at the chance to get his art out there...maybe create a buzz...maybe get some new fans. This song won't ever get radio play. This song won't ever be included in anyone's top ten releases for 2006. No one will be browsing through the CDs at a record store and say "Hmm, I wonder what this David Gilmour fellow sounds like. I think I'll spend $13 on an impulse buy." In fact, not a single person who isn't already a Gilmour fan will ever hear it. So, why not give a few tracks away for free? Why not let the faithfull David Gilmour fans get a little something for free for sticking by him for all these years? The answer is cash, and cash only. I am not commenting on his music, just the thought process by which this generous gift, this left shoe, was tossed out there to be embraced by his thankfull fans. -
Outstanding post. And when that system breaks down he does as well. Excellent job, Mr. Moderator. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Then why not release a whole song? What is Gilmour trying to hide? Could it be that he knows his market is limited to people who are already fans, and releasing an entire song would only hit his wallet and the wallet of the corporate teat he relies on? David Gilmour doesn't need to make any more money. If he really gave a crap about releasing good material, you know, because he's a musician/artist, he would give it away for free at this point. Shine on you crazy diamond. -
Incredible. So what your saying, Simon, is that when faced with the same pressure that many other QBs face on any given Sunday, Mr. Clutch is no better than any other QB, and in fact may be worse because he gets too emotional and his team almost always loses. Interesting.

Hey AKC...You Were Balls-On Accurate About Brady
Johnny Coli replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or the fact that they said Givens had seven straight playoff games with a TD. Or Ben Watson whose 63 yard rumble in the Jax game sealed it? Poor Brady. It really is a shame he has no weapons. How did he do it all by himself? -
Hey AKC...You Were Balls-On Accurate About Brady
Johnny Coli replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, LA, it seems that there was a PI call in the second quarter that they feel was even more critical than an INT in the endzone. That call led to an eventual TD for Denver (well...it didn't give them the TD, Denver actually had to score), with the score now Denver 7-Pats 3. They consider that the more critical play, even though there was an entire half of football yet to be played with the Pats only down by 4 points...a not insurmountable lead if you have a HOF QB leading a dynasty. -

Hmmm....well, you'd have to go back and analyze whether they've ever thrown an INT in the endzone in a playoff game. A game-swinging blunder that would get many QBs lambasted in the press. The single-most crucial play of the entire game. Interesting premise. -

Very typical of the NE sports fan. They change jerseys like the leaves change color. Who will they turn to now that their beloved dynasty has spiraled into the crapper? Will it be the Bruins? Nope. Will it be the Celtics? Laughable. Will it be the Red Sox? I doubt many will pay attention to the 75-game winning Sox this year. My bet is they all go back to being Giants fans. -

Johnny Coli replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent post, AKC. Has there ever been another supposedly "HOF" QB that has had as many people making excuses for why he's the "best" when a team wins, and why it wasn't his fault when they lost? Mr. Canton "orchestrated" this dynastic offense to 6 points over the first 52 minutes of the contest, only getting the TD in garbage time...the same offense that went 4-7 against teams with winning records this year. I don't know why anyone should be surprised at the outcome of this game. It's what should be expected from a slightly better-than-mediocre system QB. -

I completely agree. It was the single biggest play of the game. An INT in the endzone is a spectacular blunder in a playoff game on the road.
