Our vice president is right about Iraq
Johnny Coli replied to catchescannonballs's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Looks like the plan is to let his father's buddy bail his a$$ out once again. Former top aide may offer Bush way out of Iraq (via Reuters) So, "phased withdrawal" mentioned by Dems equals "cut and run", but when proposed by one of the Bush family confidants it's an exit strategy. Wonder how they'll sell "dialogue with Syria and Iran"? -

They've got far bigger problems than marketing and PR. -

Hoo boy. According to Conrad Burns (Sen-MT), Bush has a plan for winning the war...but it's none of your damn business. Burns: President keeping war plan quiet (Mercury News via AP) Bush and Rummy pretending to have no idea what they're doing sure had me fooled. At what point does the pretend plan become the actual effective plan, and how much will the new plan cost? -
Looks like I must have missed the outrage thread when this happened at schools in Wyoming, Washington and South Carolina. Not saying what this school did is right, just saying that it's not an isolated case, as per the linked article.

What a Dem takeover of Congress would mean...
Johnny Coli replied to jimshiz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There's a nice WaPo article (c/o MSNBC) describing what a Dem takeover might mean for Dubya. Skipping past the possibilities of Dem-led investigations into multiple issues that probably need a bit of scruitiny over the last six years, I think the most interesting outcome from a Dem takeover would be how Bush the man will react. We've witnessed six years of his "my way or the highway" aprroach. Remember, his schtick coming in was that he was a "uniter not a divider" and that his management style would foster bipartisanship to get things done without petty squabbling. I, of course, haven't seen even a twinkling of this side of him, and wonder if after six years of getting everything he wants from congress (and issuing signing statements when he doesn't) will he be able to work with the Dems? I will believe the Dem majority when I actually see it come about (election day is still a long way off, despite the bleak outlook for the GOP in the polls), but if it happens, what will be the demeaner of Dubya? How will his last two years of presidency be defined? Will it be one of cooperation? I'll believe that when I see it, too. -
For some people it was never about rebuilding. It's about certain individuals making sure people on a messageboard know that they were right, in capital letters, that so-and-so sucked and they knew it all along, or that they know so-and-so will never be good because they played football in HS. It's not about watching a football team take a few steps forward each week and rooting for them win or lose. It's not about knocking back a few beers with your buddies after digging graves or delivering the mail all week long. It's about making sure everyone around them knows that they were right, and everyone else was wrong, or worse yet, chooses to be a fan just because they have the audacity to root for their home squad, win or lose. For those people, the beer will never be cold enough. For those people, the wings will never be hot enough. For those people, no win will ever be satisfying. Well I say !@#$ them.

Looking at Manning's numbers a bit closer makes your point even further. Of Manning's 17/30, 180 yards, he had 6 completions to Shockey, for 55 yards and 2 TDs, and 3 completions to Barber for 44 yards. So better than half of his completions and yardage went to guys who you could argue are in the top five (or better) at their respective positions. Barber also rushed for 185 freaking yards. So the person's follow-up argument to your post stating that the numbers between Eli and JP are comparable but Eli won, is foolish. I have no doubt that if the two QBs were switched the outcome would have been the same.

Is there any chance that someone can knock over the last standing tree in B-lo and add Deluca to the 300,000 without power? Thanks in advance, Johnny.

Guaranteed he'll be in Foxboro next week, if just for a look-see by Belicheck. Aging, bitter vet with some left in the tank to play a role on D is how that guy stocks his team. -

What a Dem takeover of Congress would mean...
Johnny Coli replied to jimshiz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
While I'm cautiously optimistic wrt the Dems gaining control of the House, Senate or both, I will believe it when I see it. There is a lot of time between now and election day. That being said, if they do gain control of one or both, I do not think impeachment hearings will ever see the light of day. The fact that the GOP would even use the idea that horror of horrors "the Dems are gonna impeach our CIC" as a reason to vote against them shows how little the GOP has to run on. -

Johnny Coli replied to OGTEleven's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Four or five other posters in this thread have read the article and deemed it short on substance, yet because I agree with them and happen to be a Dem I have a personal agenda that's "garbage"? What's your agenda again, Darin? -

Yes, it's absolutely absurd that I would point out that there is nothing wrong when there was nothing wrong. It's all part of my personal agenda to mislead the readers of the PPP. -

The study was published in The Lancet. The Lancet is a peer-reviewed medical journal, and is very well respected. -

I don't see where he did anything wrong or shady, either. He owned the land, entered into an LLC with a 75% stake, paid taxes on his part of the LLC, and ended up making $700k when they sold it. The land never changed hands. He didn't make any money on a "sale" when he went into the LLC partnership becasue it's not a "sale". He certainly didn't make $1.1 million if he was already in for $400k. This line in the article is laughable: Isn't that why you enter into an LLC? To freaking limit your legal liability by incorporating? And if he's openly paying taxes on his stake, how the hell is that not public knowledge if he's reporting it to the IRS? The story is riddled with inconsistencies, dead end "facts", worthless opinions from people not privy to any of the details, meaningless links to other persons with no relationship to the deal, and denials that Reid was involved by the principal developers involved in the land sale. This may go down as one of the worst, meatless hit pieces in journalistic history. -

Plurality Now Favor Leaving Iraq
Johnny Coli replied to true_blue_bill's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Actually, I think it's 180 degrees in the other direction. They know the American people don't want to have anything to do with refereeing the Iraq revolution. But, the GOP needs Iraq to use the Cut and Run sloganeering and jingoism for the election, even though many in their own party are for a reasonable, quick withdrawl timeline. If they retain the House and Senate, you will see the gradual drawback as they Cut and Run from their own Stay the Course nonsense. This president and his failed policies are done, and his party knows it. After this election he's useless to them. -
Child Raping Scandle Hits Home
Johnny Coli replied to true_blue_bill's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Of course it will last, and the repercussions of this scandal will be felt by the GOP right up until the election. The House Ethics committee authorized the use of 48 subpoenas. They're not going to get to them all at once, and with Congress in recess for the upcoming election, certain congress persons will be flying back to DC to testify..."Congressman so-and-so flew back to DC today to testify before the ethics committe regarding what he/she did or didn't know about the Foley scandal." That lead will be followed by a review of the facts in every article that is submitted from here on in. USA Today Also, Tom Reynolds is the chair for the republican re-election effort. Think Tom's concerned about anybody else than himself right now? He blew off a booked guest appearance on ABC's This Week yesterday with "flu-like symptoms." His senior aide had to resign because of the Foley scandal. Reynolds is reeling, and he's the guy who's supposed to be comfortably leading the GOPs retention of the House. From same article as above: Hastert, as the Speaker of the House was scheduled for a 30-day campaign blitz, appearing with Republican's in not-so-safe, borderline election regions. Now, say you're one of these GOP incumbents, and J. Dennis Hastert is supposed to breeze into town and stump for your campaign. How fired up would you be right now? You think Hastert will get a word out about anything other than Foley? You think you're going to have to answer the dreaded question "Do you support Dennis Hastert as your party's Speaker?" GOP hopefuls hope Hastert stays away "Disinvited." Thanks, but no thanks, Mr. Speaker. Save those frequent flyer miles. While this story may not have the legs to stay above the fold in every newspaper in the US, it will remain visible for the for-see-able future. Foley checked into rehab on October first. If he's in for thirty days, that would mean he gets out the weekend right before election day. Wanna bet he's "convinced" to stick with the program a bit longer? -
