That's insane. You're saying that a victim of incest/rape should carry their pregnancy to term, so that you can rest easy at night knowing that a group of cells didn't get to gestate. You want a victim of incest/rape to carry a pregnancy for nine months, every waking minute being reminded of the horror of being violated? At what point did you stop viewing them as a victim of a horrible crime, and start viewing them as an unwilling incubator? Edit: "didn't get to gestate" should read "got to gestate". My anger and disbelief trumped a thorough proofread before hitting reply. I'm still angry, though.

I think the numbers are very informative. It's not like Newt Gingrich is some political newcomer where people don't know where he stands on issues. He's also been a pretty ubiquitous talking head on the news shows. If only 3 out of 10 people in your home state think you'd be a good president, that's a pretty tough hurdle to get over. Better than 6 in 10 think he wouldn't. No ambiguity there. Based on those numbers in a Newt-friendly state, what do you think his numbers would be in the northeast? Can you have poll numbers in the negative?

They sent him everywhere during the campaigns, and more people came out to see him than the candidates he was stumping for. His charisma and cult of personality are through the roof, and to tell you the truth, the fact that he doesn't have a long political rap sheet is a bonus, rather than a detriment.

Not looking good for the Newt '08 campaign. You don't bring me flowers, anymore.

LOL, Daddy lost his seat!

Whatever, man. Santorum is scum, but his daughter never ran for office. There are plenty of other things to nail Ricky with. Making fun of his daughter is pretty weak. -

Let people crucify him for using his kids then, but it seems like that site was zeroing in on a sad little girl. I just don't think it's cool to go there. -

I don't know why we have to bring his kids into it. They think their dad is great, as all kids should, despite what we think of him. They should leave the man's kids alone. -

We used to watch the show starting at 9:00, but the commercials made it unbearable. So we started DVR'ing it and waiting until 9:15 to FF through the commercials. We were catching up to the damn show by 9:30. So now we wait until 9:30 to start it up, and we still almost lap it.

I would defiantely say that getting 1 out of every 4 people in that age group to vote in a non-presidential election year is pretty damn good. I'd say 10 million is a pretty significant amount. You'll have to ask Karl Rove if he agrees...if you can find him.

They just watched the American people rebuke an administration by handing control of two houses of congress to the opposite party, watched the Dems gain control of both houses of the state legislature in 23 states, 15 of which also have Dem governors, watched the Dems gain 6 new governorships for a total of 28, and watched the Dems make inroads in states like Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, and Texas to name just a few. That was pretty historic from a news point of view. Should they have moped around?

Let The Cutting And Running Begin!

So what you're saying is, it's too dangerous for our troops to even attempt to leave. Twenty one kids have been killed since last wednesday, but it's unsafe to attempt to even get the rest of the troops out. That's your reasoning for staying in Iraq? -
You're completely wrong with that statement. Youth turnout in election biggest in 20 years Young people are voting, and they vote Dem. Olbermann's numbers for the young viewer demographic are going up. Salon interview The ones that don't watch his show watch the clips of his commentaries on Youtube (the most popular are the ones where he beats-down O'Reilly). So, the underlying premise of your post suggesting that his ratings aren't significant, and that his viewers are young and don't vote, is entirely wrong.

How was that show satisfying? That may have been the lamest "cliffhanger" ever. I know you guys frown on people dumping on Lost, but my wife and I have seen every episode and the only reason we tune in now is because we've already gotten this far. Nothing happens. Ever. I apologize for that, but come on, man. Now it get's replaced by Taye Break for four months!?!?! And the incentive to return is "no repeats"?

My initial reaction to Gates was the same...another one of Poppy's guys sent in to help out the shrub. But WaPo (via MSNBC link) has a decent write-up on him. He's the polar opposite of Rumsfeld, was part of the Baker-Hamilton report, has stated in the recent past that we should leave as soon as possible, and wants to start a dialog with Iran. He seems like a good candidate. -
Still no sign of the evil genius, yet.

Parting words from CBS's Early Show

You're losing the argument because you're out of your mind. The premise that the MSM outside of Fox has a liberal bias has been shot down repeatedly by many people on this board. If pressed, and actually did some research, you'd find that the media outlets that you point the finger at for being liberal are far from it, and often interview with a decidedly rightward tilt. The fact that the media laid down like cowering dogs for this administration since the period just prior to the 2000 election has been well-written about. It is only recently, when the MSM felt they could actually start asking penetrating questions of this administration without a backlash from the American people, that they began to press them for straight answers, and not just a wink and a nudge. -
It was just a minor diversion from the all-important statistics thread.

Well, historically speaking, Senator Kennedy will be considered one of the most influencial, effective congressmen in the history of the US Senate. I've had the honor of voting for him three times now. You don't have to agree with his positions, but he's done right by our state...since 1962.

Speaking of mentally challenged, 1.8 million people voted for Katherine Harris for FL-SEN. I find that astounding. Senate race results Bill Nelson (DEM)* 2,844,459 60% Katherine Harris (REP) 1,797,229 38%

It's not about getting stuck in the tar pit. It's about looking strong and brave when you jump in. Pathetic, indeed.

We waited. We watched Rove, Bush and Cheney strut around these past few weeks with a swagger that suggested that they knew something the pundits and pollsters didn't...and we wondered. And we waited for the surprise. We listened to Karl Rove on NPR tell the interviewer in his characteristic smugness that his math was the only math that mattered and he could say with confidence that the GOP would maintain control of both houses...even as we looked at poll after poll suggesting otherwise...and we wondered. And we waited for the surprise. We watched Bush confidently refuse to even speculate that the control of congress might switch hands, refusing to even plan for the worst...and we wondered. And we waited for the surprise. But there was no surprise coming. In the end there was no genius behind the curtain. In the end there was no surprise news story crushing the Dems chances of taking back the House (still waiting patiently for the Senate). In the end all the swagger, confidence and refusal to plan for defeat was all just whistling past the graveyard. In the end Rove, Bush and Cheney had nothing but their record, nothing but fear, and nothing but smear tactics that fell on deaf ears. And that was the biggest surprise of all.

Skipped out of the salt mines early, and just got done voting (nice, easy paper ballot). MA-Gov, voted for Deval Patrick. MA-Sen, this was my third time proudly voting for Senator Ted Kennedy. The rest of the ticket was pretty straight Dem, and the majority of them were running unopposed.

Best thing for Republicans . . .

They're predicting record turn-outs here in Mass, and they report record turn-outs in Conn. Any way you spin it (which we're not going to do in this agenda-free thread), that's pretty damn cool.
