  1. There's no way Dom Capers is going to coach that team to 11 wins.
  2. That's awesome! She was married to Fever Bender's brother, Fourday.
  3. It's a pretty fabulous time to be in Boston. I'm sitting on a barstool right now at JJ Foleys, drinking a PBR draft and awaiting the arrival of one Mr. GG. Four-day weekend off and running. Monday is a holiday in this town.
  4. There's a great fist-fight in The Terror of Tinytown, and all-midget cast western from 1938.
  5. NPR has been reporting on them all week.
  6. You would not have made that statement had you done even the most rudimentary of searches on the 'tubes. More illegal immigrants filing income taxes for the first time (Tucson Citizen) Illegal Immigrants Pay Taxes (ABC, Raleigh-Durham) Tax Day: Illegal workers using IRS-approved IDs to pay up (Star Tribune, Minneapolis-St. Paul) Paying taxes diligently, but in U.S. illegally (NY Daily News) To summarize, they're paying taxes. You are wrong.
  7. Climate change/global warming isn't just studied by climatologists, and it's effect is measured across many scientific fields. The consensus has been formed via research from marine biologists, ecologists, microbiologists, geologists, epidemiologists and on and on. It's not just someone sticking a thermometer out a window in ten different cities across the globe. There's a review that just came out in The Lancet, one of the oldest and prestigious medical journals in the world. The first line in the abstract (Climate change and human health: present and future risks (Pubmed link. I'll get the whole review when I get to the lab): It reviews the impact global warming is/will have on health risks. Like I said, the effect of global warming and the evidence for it will be measured/studied by more than climatologists.
  8. Well, it's 5:20PM, and a quick run-through of the news sites you've directed your rant at don't have Cho's pics up anymore...except for Drudge (who you've never mentioned), who still has the "Cho from the grave" pic prominently displayed. Shall I start the letter-writing campaign, or will you?
  9. Sounds like you're making a very good argument for not letting them have them.
  10. Do the literature search yourself, then. Actual facts are there if you want them, but they wouldn't support your argument that "illegals" are a drain on society because they don't pay taxes or add anything to the economy. You are wrong.
  11. Yes, Darin, global warming is a world-wide liberal conspiracy perpetrated by the scientific elite. This is only a debate here in the confines of the PPP. Scientists rarely agree on anything and the fact that we almost unanimously agree on this issue should tell people something. I await your insult and the subsequent pile-on by your suck-ups.
  12. Good read in that it points out the absurd lengths the anti-global warming, big oil apologist crowd is willing to go to make any of their points stick. You can't on the one hand argue that there isn't a consensus (which there most definately is), then attempt to compare big-oil flunkies to Galileo because he dared to go up against the earth-at-the-center-of-the-universe nuts. Galileo was doing science at a time when religion and superstition ruled. I'm pretty sure most would agree what side he'd be on today.
  13. That is entirely wrong. Illegal immigrants filing taxes more than ever Tax Returns Rise for Immigrants in U.S. Illegally (NY Times--may require login) Hundreds of Thousands of Illegal Immigrants Filed Taxes This Year They are working hard doing jobs that many native-born americans do not want. They are paying taxes in record numbers, taxes that pay for the services you say they are getting for free. They are also filling an urban population void as more and more people leave major metropolitan areas (Census: Immigrants stabilize big-city populations). So, not only are they working hard and paying income taxes, they are also contributing to the urban economy (retail taxes, commodities, rent). Your premise that they are sucking resources from this country couldn't be more wrong.
  14. Exactly. Ask a cop what situation he'd rather respond to, the situation where you know that the person carrying the weapon is the criminal, or a situation where dozens of people are shooting at each other because they heard a shot but didn't see the shooter.
  15. Before the knee-jerkers jump all over this without reading the article, the authors consider any income from the government in their analysis AND their direct dependents...ie, everyone in the military, government employees, government contract employees, anyone that gets a grant (which I'm assuming would include education grants), anyone whose employer gets money from the government (goverment contacts), retirees collecting social security. They're not making any distiction between someone who gets a few food stamps a month or the IT guy that's keeping the servers running in the windowless basement of Raytheon (defense contractor).
  16. I find him to be intelligent, quite balanced, and think he doesn't go far enough. I think he'll be great, and probably won't use it as a political stage at all.
  17. Juliette most-definately hates Ben, but she's going to do whatever he wants because she's pregnant, and he's her only ticket off the island.
  18. Not sure if this was posted or brought up in the 23 pages of this thread, but there was an MSNBC article this morning on undocumented workers and taxes. Illegal immigrants Undocumented workers filing taxes more than ever They're working. They're paying taxes. They're contributing to the economy.
