  1. Obama has been a legislator at the state and federal level for twelve years and has taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School for 12 years (that he knows the Constitution and Con Law already makes him more qualified than the guy in the White House right now). Any idea how much experience Ronald Reagan had before becoming President? Any idea at all?
  2. Don't any of you people take a fleeting glance at facts prior to posting? Obama has over 12 years of legislative experience as a state legislator and a Senator of Illinois. High level experience? Are you serious?
  3. What people should be taking home from this moment is that a minority kid who grew up with simple means worked his butt off and is now the elected candidate of a major political party to run for the highest office in the United States. That is what is happening right now. It should give people pause to reflect on how great this country is. Last night was very, very significant in the history of this country. And you don't have to be rich. The Obamas aren't nearly as wealthy as the people they have had to run against, and are running against right now. The money he's running with is from campaign contributions and party money. As far as I know, and I'll have to check so I could be wrong, but I don't believe they've used any of their money.
  4. The poster suggested Obama had never accomplished anything, when in fact he's accomplished quite a lot. Not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you saying he's only gotten to this point in history because his wife was rich? If that's the point you're trying to make you're an idiot. Her father worked at a city water plant and her mother was a secretary. She and Obama met when they were both fresh out of law school. She had no more money at the time than he did.
  5. Not naive at all. After all the coverage and scruitiny he received prior to and after, I'm shocked that anyone would think otherwise. Of course I'm shocked that anyone would believe he was a muslim, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised.
  6. They had to straddle a fine line. I think having it on the smaller side, rather than larger (which would have been quite accceptable, IMO) makes the McCain camp's attempt to ridicule it look stupid.
  7. The response was to the incorrect statement that he didn't write his speech. In my opinion, he's extremely qualified to be the leader of this country, and in fact has more legislative and legal experience than Ronald Reagan did when he took office.
  8. Poor kid from mixed-race marriage goes to Harvard Law, becomes editor of Harvard law review, graduates with distinction, becomes a community organizer in low-income neighborhood, has taught Constitutional Law at a major law school for over a decade, has been a state legislator, a Senator, gave a Democratic Presidential Convention keynote address, and WON, not handed, WON a presidential primary to become the first ever person of color to be nominated for president by a major political party. I'd say he's got a pretty good deal of accomplishments on his resume.
  9. He wrote it himself. It was mentioned during the pre- and post-speech analysis on every major network that covers such things. Obama preps in solitude for speech EDIT: And, yes, you are insane.
  10. You want to debate why you think he's an "empty suit," which is laughable considering the guy's background, then it's a topic for another thread. The topic of this thread was to snicker and point at the trappings behind Obama last night, which didn't look like a temple by any stretch. In fact, in comparison to the scale of the venue and the size of the crowd it looked perfect. Anything smaller would have looked puny in that setting, and having seen it in the context it was supposed to be seen I'm not sure what all the bluster was about.
  11. Not sure what the hell people are talking about. Not only did that not look like a Greek or any other culture's temple, it seemed perfectly sized for the venue and looked pretty good on TV from all angles. Anything smaller would have looked stupid when placed in the context of over 75,000 people in an outdoor stadium. They pulled it off. He made a kick-ass speech. The backdrop looked great, and I believe this is yet one more weak attempt by the McCain people to make something out nothing.
  12. No surprise, really: Economic left -6.75 Social libertarian -6.82 If I recall, I took this very same test a few years ago, but didn't lean as far left then as I do now.
  13. They've had the 30th ranked offense in 2006 and in 2007. He should start caring about actually scoring, instead of explaining why he doesn't care how it's done. So, to sum up his two seasons in Buffalo, he clearly hasn't figured out what his guys do best, he certainly hasn't figured out how to score, and he's going to take the same approach this year, hoping they've "accumulated enough skill." I'm not a Jauron "basher," but it's a comment like that after back-to-back losing seasons that should make people wonder if he's really capable of getting the job done. Kind of sounds like he's calling out his players, too.
  14. Best part is the 2nd guy screwing the bottle into her back and the midget ending up with the backwash.
  15. Steal the music, go to the shows!
  16. I bought black high-top Chuck Taylor Allstars for my groomsmen and me to wear during the ceremony, and to keep as their gift. Outdoor wedding, all wearing Chuck Taylors, black jackets/pants, white shirts with black skinny ties and black sunglasses. We got dressed at the hotel, went down to the lobby and the dorrman asked us if we were off to rob a bank.
  17. Probably all hinges, once again, on the first 4 games of the season. SEA, JAX, OAK, STL. IMO if they're not 3-1 after that start then Jauron is screwed. He could squeak by with the benefit-of-the-doubt crowd if they 're a scrappy 2-2, but if they start 1-3 and Edwards looks like he did at the end of 2007 then the natives are warming up the tar and the chickens in WNY are gonna need to order some fleece pullovers from BassPro.
  18. A lot of whether Edwards continues to start, even if he ends up stinking up the joint, will be tied directly to Jauron's job security. If the team is losing and Edwards is terrible but Jauron is assured of coming back for 2009, then I don't think Edwards will get yanked and he'll be allowed to work through the yips. But if Jauron feels his job is on the line, then much like the previous idiot did standing in his shoes, you will see the Great QB Carousel once again.
  19. No they don't. They've limited the exposure to only a few select styles, abandoning variety for mass-produced garbage that they pay the radio stations to play. If people can only choose between a few pre-selected styles then that's what they'll do because they don't have any other choice. Idol isn't a good example because they've already triaged out the variety for a few contestants that fit a pre-conceived mold. People aren't voting for Idol contestants based on talent. It's got nothing to do with music at all, and anyone who watches can see that. Plenty do. In clubs and touring in vans all over America and Europe. And they make a significant amount of their cash via merchandise. Unfortunately, the larger venues are often booked by people who have larger corporate or booking ties. Larger promoters book the larger venues, and the larger promoters are often closely tied with the music companies and the radio stations. Kid Rock puts out a new CD. Corporate scumbag tells (and pays) radio station douchebag to put Kid Rock "hit" on heavy rotation, and then tells Don Law to book him at Great Woods. Great Woods books Kid Rock because Don Law would promote acts elsewhere if they don't, and they need to sell tickets. Free tickets are given away to create a buzz. People who don't know any better go to the show because Kid Rock has a "hit" on heavy rotation and as far as they know he's the only one playing a live show in town. Downtown, dozens of bands with actual talent play in front of people who have a clue, sell some 45s and some T-shirts, and move on to the next city, just happy to knock back a few beers with people who aren't corporate whores trying to steal and make money off their intellectual property (a huge distinction from some kids wanting to share a great song with their friends). Very few bands crack into this industry circle-jerk. And getting into it has very little to do with talent. Exhibit A, commercial radio. Plenty of bands deserve to be playing in big venues, but we'll never know (or ever hear them unless you're hitting the small venues) if they could because the record companies and corporate radio have decided to ignore potential for manufactured.
  20. Other than the handful of the talentless hacks beholden to the major corporate pigs who force radio stations to play their music, I don't see any serious artists bitching and moaning about it. They don't make money off the music. They make money off the merch and touring. The only people who stand to lose any money are the people who aren't actually making the music to begin with. The major music companies would love for you to think you're ripping off your favorite artists. Then people will ignore that its the major record companies that are the ones ripping off the artists. They just don't want your competition. I love the argument that if the major companies ceased to exist all the artists would suffer and we'd have nothing to buy. The idea is laughable. The ones that would suffer would be the parasites living off someone else's art and the fabricated artists manufactured by the record companies to sell a style. The people actually making the music would be just fine. Wouldn't it be nice to listen to the radio again? Wouldn't it be nice to hear genre-breaking stuff by people who aren't just pandering to some music exec who pays off radio stations to force garbage into your eardrums? It's the record companies that have limited the choices you have because it helps them maximize their returns by limiting the money they would have to use to discover talent. Instead they're telling YOU what the talent is. That's bull sh--, man. They've made the choice to limit your choice. You can make the choice to get the music you want to hear by leaving them out of the equation. Steal the music. Go to the shows.
  21. I like "polyp" because it's not a happy thing, despite the whimsical sound of it's name. It can also be combined with a relatively benign prefix that makes me smile and cringe at the same time..."lolipolyp." I also like "pustule," because it's about what you'd expect. There's comfort in that. "Tularemia" sounds like the name of a Holiday-on-Ice type extravaganza. "Have you brought the kids to see this year's Tularemia at Rockefeller Center?" "Not yet. Is it as good as last year's?" "Even better. All the kids get lolipolyps." "That does sound like fun!"
  22. Back when "ice" beer was all the rage, a roommate of mine would stick the three extra cans from his 18-pack (love the 18-pack) of Carling Black Label out on the porch in the dead of winter. By morning he'd have "Black Ice." He was pretty resourceful, but not resourceful enough to survive colon cancer. Bottom's up, Rob!
  23. My wife and I saw it on Friday. She's a huge Hellboy fan. It had a slightly different feel than the first one (played a bit more on the camp side than the original), but was just as good as Hellboy I. Loved it.
  24. Absolutely. To overlook it is to condone it. You can't cheat and be called a dynasty. Not sure why people can't wrap that round they're brains. Also not sure how 18 months of good football can be considered a dynasty, either. Seems like people are setting the bar pretty low.
