  1. He stated on Sunday he would vote for it.
  2. Both McCain and Obama said they would vote for it on Sunday.
  3. And here's the video of the House GOP press conference right after the vote, where they say explicitly that Pelosi's speech turned them off, pissing off enough of their party to vote down the bill: Cantor's at 4:06, holding up Pelosi's speech.
  4. two thirds of the Dems voted for it. Two thirds is a majority. 140 to 95. That's a majority. More Dems voted for it than didn't. That would be a majority.
  5. About 15 minutes after the vote, Boehner and Blunt said specifically that it was Pelosi's speech that caused their party to not deliver the votes. Your boy from VA, Cantnor, even held up a copy of Pelosi's speech and said "This is why it didn't pass."
  6. Still, she delivered two-thirds of her caucus for a very unpopular bill and the GOP in essense tanked it because she pissed them off (AND they hate Bush, AND probably McCain, too)--all after concessions were made to get them on board. To do that and have the market go in the toilet to the tune of 1 trillion dollars makes them look really petty. No other way to spin it, although some have tried.
  7. I watched that live on MSNBC. I was hoping a transcript, or better yet a video of that exchange would pop up. It's even funnier watching it. Shuster looked like he was going to laugh out loud at one point.
  8. So she blew a question shouted to her from a kid in a pizza shop. That's "gotcha" journalism? What a joke. It's almost like they're purposely pushing the bar so low that anything aside from her drooling and hitting herself in the face will be considered a victory in Thursday's debate. And the McCain campaign is no longer allowed to accuse anyone of being sexist in how they handle Palin. Not when McCain is going to talk over her during interviews.
  9. Pretty sobering numbers from Bloomberg: Good thing a 700 billion dollar rescue package wasn't passed.
  10. Whew! That's a relief! This has only been the 6th worst day in the market in a century. That's some positive spin, brother!
  11. And don't forget, this Bill was full of specific concessions that the GOP House leadership said had to be in there in order for them to vote for it. Absurd.
  12. You should turn on the TV. That's exactly what Boener and Blunt just said.
  13. So even though the GOP leadership in the House claimed that this Bill was necessary to stave off economic disaster, they chose to tank the bill because they don't like Pelosi? That's the line of reasoning they're going with to explain why they just screwed millions of Americans? Interesting take.
  14. Nice. I know it was unintentional, but surfing this site and others instead of working productively is definately an "e-joyment."
  15. Wrong. Springfield Missouri news-Leader A non-story. There is no plan to arrest people for lying, and of course both campaigns are going to employ people to discredit false campaign ads. To not would be stupid. As for "intimidation of the media," NBC pulled a anti-McCain ad last week because of pressure, so can we please dispense with the Obama Communist State nonsense.
  16. Then don't vote. That'll show us lemmings that we're the idiots.
  17. Not surprised to come on here and read some of the delusional responses scoring that debate for McCain. He lost by any metric you choose to evaluate the debate with--demeanor, substance, and most importantly, polling of independents and undecided voters. Foreign policy was supposed to be Obama's weak point, and not only did he hold his own, he never got rattled, showed he absolutely belonged in this race and came across far more "Presidential" than McCain did. McCain was antagonistic, dismissive, often lapsed into Grandpa Simpson tangents, refused to look at his opponent and not once scored a significant hit on Obama. Foreign policy is supposed to be this guy's bread and butter? Instead he meandered in and out of bizarre historical anecdotes, name-dropped, pandered to his base and sneered his way through 90 minutes. Can any independents and undecided voters really come away from that debate saying, "Yeah, that's the guy I want making foreign policy." The weekend polls say a resounding "No." He lost ground with undecided independents and women. Even white men scored the debate "even," which is disastrous for his campaign. I expect the gimmicks to start coming fast and furious now. McCain's on the ropes and has already shown he's not above tossing dignity and conviction out the window in a win-at-all costs strategy. There's a story out of the UK Times Online suggesting the McCain/Palin ticket is hoping for a pre-election marriage between her six-month pregnant daughter and the baby's father. It's an odd thought, but save for a Bush/Rove 2000 campaign Black Ops push poll in South Carolina suggesting McCain fathered an illegitimate black child, John McCain could have been President eight years ago.
