Sarah Palin's terrorist pals
Johnny Coli replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hangs out and surrounded. I get it. We've had eight years of xenophobia and fear spread by the GOP, so I understand your paranoia and skepticism over someone who's different. But even you must be aware that you, SDS and erynthered are sounding just as ignorant and shrill as the tin-foil hat crowd you often ridicule. Neither the Ayers "association," the Rev Wright nonsense, nor Obama's trip to Kenya where Odinga happens to be the PM in any way, shape or form even come close to "surrounding himself with dangerous people." Not by even the most liberal of stretches. You don't want to vote for Obama, fine. That's your right as a voting citizen. There's probably plenty of actual issues you don't agree with him on. But don't justify not voting for him, or legitimize the absurd notion spewed by right-wing cowards by bleating ad nauseum that Barack Obama is some radical Manchurian candidate hell-bent on destroying the US. He's been vetted. Extensively by Clinton and now McCain. There's nothing there. Slander and lies is all the GOP has on him, because they can't beat him on the issues. It's the last-ditch effort of a coward to win at all costs. Not sure why you'd want to be lumped with them. -
McCain and the Science Vote?
Johnny Coli replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Planetarium's would most-likely fall under science education. People suggesting that it's the same as sticking your head out the window are wrong. Anyone living near an urban area will tell you that you'll never see the night sky the same near a city as it will look out in the country. The planetarium here in Boston is usually packed with students on school outings. Not sure why anyone would be against funding education, especially science education, considering how far behind we are falling as a nation in that subject. Why the hell would we ever want to inspire grade-school inner city kids? -
Watched it when it was on BBC America about two years ago. I DVR'd the rip-off American version last night and will watch it this weekend. Anybody watch it that saw the BBC version? Is it like the Office, where they used the same screenplay but with American actors, or did they completely re-do it? Personally, I'm skeptical. The BBC version was stellar.

I never mentioned race in my post. I believe McCain hates Obama for a multitude of reasons that have nothing to do with Obama's race. Good one on my login.

A "gaffe" would suggest that it was a blunder, or a mistake. I don't believe it was a mistake at all. I think McCain is a man consumed with hate, barely holding it together.

I, personally, would love to see McCain start ranting about Obama being a "terrorist" in the debate on the economy tonight. With the Dow currently down yet another 180 points as I write this, I'm sure the American people would be very receptive to listening to a guy erratically vent about stuff that was hashed out six months ago instead of detailing how he would handle the failing economy if elected President. That should go over pretty well.

Why McCain will Lose!
Johnny Coli replied to billnutinphoenix's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
His people sure are running a bizarre campaign. Remember, they had his nomination wrapped up back in February. That was a full four months before the Dems. Where the hell was he? Then they saddle him with an inexperienced GOP fembot, essentially silencing any attacks on Obama's inexperience. They also had/have no answer to Obama's ground game, which has been signing up staggering numbers of new Dems. Now the McCain campaign is reduced to gimmicks, and most likely really ugly negative campaigning, always a winner with the American people. Unbelievable. I don't think McCain really has any control over his campaign. I think that's reflected in it's schitzophrenic/knee-jerk moves. -
McCain giving up in Michigan?
Johnny Coli replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I also head over to FiveThirtyEight for my electoral college map fix. If you're a poll junkie the site is fantastic. It doesn't have the groovy roll-over feature, but has just about everything else you'd want to dig into. McCain's got to do something, probably ugly, to try and right the ship or the GOP is in big trouble. If it looks like he has no chance in the next week or so the GOP base will not go to the polls at anywhere near the levels the Dems will. That's horrible news for the GOP candidates on the down-ticket races. There's a few very close Senate races and the Dems would like to be in a position to make some major gains. That would spell doom for Lieberman, as the Dems wouldn't need to placate him anymore. If the POTUS race is deemed somewhat safe then the Dems can move some of their support to bolster some key Senate campaigns. Could be a long night for the GOP if McCain can't stop the bleeding by the end of next week. -
The official Biden/Palin debate thread

Go do a scan of the tubes. The GLBT community knows exactly what she was implying. -
Oh My!! That took some balls!!
Johnny Coli replied to erynthered's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not sure scrawling a racist statement anonymously on a dry erase board, then getting bagged would qualify as "ballsy." I say he's just another cowardly racist pig that got caught. Nothing ballsy about that. -
The official Biden/Palin debate thread
Johnny Coli replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
She's already gone on record that she thinks it's a choice. Palin on Abortion and Gays I can guarantee you that every single gay or lesbian person watching that "debate" knew exactly what she meant when she said: Clearly not a huge campaign issue for you, but it's a big issue for some. -

You weren't listening closely enough, then. -

Johnny Coli replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He's for civil unions if they give every right that a heterosexual marriage does, but doesn't agree with using the term "marriage," saying that definition is really between a person and their faith. Probably not what the gay and lesbian community would have liked to hear, as calling it "marriage" is personally very important to them. However, that discrepancy was quickly overshadowed by Palin's overt suggestion that being gay or lesbian is a "choice." She is no friend to the gay/lesbian community, nor is McCain. -

They put every question up for the rest of the debate. -
The official Biden/Palin debate thread

My wife and I watched it on MSNBC. After a few minutes in when they realized Palin wasn't going to answer any of the questions, they started putting the question up on the bottom of the screen. Pretty hilarious. The bankruptcy question was a riot. If you didn't have the question plastered on the bottom of the TV screen you'd have thought she was answering an energy question. My entirely biased take, she connected with the same people she has been connecting to but didn't do anything to sway undecideds or make any independents comfortable voting for McCain. She had a list of topics and canned zingers that she was told to use no matter what the question asked was. So, for the "looking comfortable" grade she get's a B+ (are smirks and winks on some GOP debate style list?), and for "answering the debate question," which is what makes a debate different than a campaign rally, she gets an F. The "VP should have expanded powers" answer was scary. Biden, gets an A for not being baited and showing incredible restraint. Thought he did a good job correcting some outright lies that Steve Schmidt Palin toosed out. Also thought he did a good job of linking McCain to Bush. He gets a C+ for not looking into the camera for the first half hour, but after that he had it on cruise control and connected with the audience about as much as you'd expect. My wife thought he should have called Palin out for ignoring the questions, but personally I'm glad he didn't. Obama's ahead in the polls, so really all Biden needed to do was attack McCain and avoid Palin. Coming away from it, it was more about her resuscitating her image and less about her saving the McCain campaign. She didn't look like a total moron, but she didn't look like she was doing anything more than reciting talking points. So, she can at least cram for an exam. I don't think that's going to sway undecideds, though. -
Then let's hear what you're so scared of. Do you think he's the anti-christ? Or Hitler? Or Stalin? Are you worried that he's going to let the country be overrun by undocumented workers? It can't be terrorism, because we've already won the Iraq war. Are you worried he won't invade Iran? Are you worried about the markets going to hell, kind of like they are right now? Is he going to further deteriorate our standing in the world, I mean, any further than Bush has already driven it down to? Exactly how will Obama do any worse than the previous administration, roundly accepted as the worst ever even before it has ended?

My brother's family lives out in the pacific Northwest. You get away from the urban areas and it's a whole different world. They pray when they pull out of the ranch driveway. We get along because we're family, but they think my wife and I are going to hell.
-
Your conclusion is wrong, and nowhere in the article, nor the actual email I suspect or they would have put it in there, is there a link saying "register two students so they can vote for Obama." Don't you think Fox, your second link, would have put it in there in it's entirety, instead of linking a couple sentences from what appear to be different parts of the email together?

How many "Joe Sixpacks" have 20k to lose?
Johnny Coli replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Having money and the ability to save does not exclude one from also having the idea that the have-nots should have a safety net. There are plenty of poor Republicans with their hands out, and there are plenty of Dems who save money. Furthermore, neither party is made up of absolutes. There are fiscally conservative Dems, there are anti-Iraq war Republicans. So, no, you are wrong, saving money for retirement is not exclusive to the GOP. Neither is income and party. So your thinking that we're all just lazy commies waiting for the government to give us money is ridiculous, and I'm sure pretty insulting to a large number of people on this message board. -

No, as I'm still buying them. -
Where exactly did you get that out of that piece? It doesn't say "Go recruit two students" anywhere, other than what was inferred by the Republican party. Tell you what, I'll side with you in not allowing teachers to wear blue T-shirts in an election year if you side with me in banning any and all school prayer.
-
Like undocumented gay Mexicans wearing blue helmets rampaging through Anytown USA, aborting babies, stealing your 401k and turning your kids into drug addicted homos? I really wouldn't get too worked up. His presidency isn't going to shock your world that much.
-
I'd say you're reading way too much into an email suggesting teachers wear blue T-shirts and talk to two people of voting age about Obama.

I doubt many would consider a music collection worthless. That's clearly where you and others, and I disagree. Whether I plan on selling any of my record collection or any of my musical gear isn't relevent to the value I put them at. To me they're priceless and have a historical value that no monetary figure could ever come close to. Records and gear spread out over 25+ years, probably approaching 100k. Hard to say, and like I said above, not really relevent as the value of that "investment" has paid for itself a million times over.
