  1. Would you buy a car from a company that is bankrupt? During a recession.
  2. Man, I'm sick of this bull sh-- about how the UAW is the root of all evil and the cause of Detroit's downfall. The UAW made massive concessions last year saving the Big Three billions of dollars. The facts are management was/is grossly negligent and incompetent, and the economy sucks and no one is buying automobiles. The UAW is a convenient scapegoat, but they aren't the problem. What to expect from U.S. auto bailout debate The UAW will probably have to make more concessions to save their jobs, but they've already made quite a few. I can't believe you of all people would buy into the GOP talking point blaming the unions. The GOP doesn't give a crap about the American taxpayer. They want Detroit bankrupt so the UAW gets destroyed. That's what this opposition is about. We're talking a 25 Billion dollar loan with interest.
  3. You give them the loan with some major conditions attached (ie no money for executive bonuses, reduction of the number of models, forced introduction of more fuel efficient models, etc). Letting them go under isn't an option because as taterhill said above, the cost if they went under would dwarf the size of the loan we're debating. Millions added to the unemployment rolls. Millions without health insurance. The loss of an entire industry top to bottom. Think about what that would do to an economy already on the edge. And no, you can't let them declare bankruptcy and re-organize. Who the hell is going to buy a product from a bankrupt company? They might as well go straight to chapter 7.
  4. Its probably of zero interest to anyone on this board, but miss-typing "ant virus" got me thinking about whether there were in fact, ant viruses. Turns out there is a red fire ant specific virus, SINV-1, a picorna-like virus. Looks like the USDA is looking at it as a possible way of controlling the fire ant infestation in the South (via WaPo). Pretty cool. One caveat I'm sure they are thinking about would be a possible jump to a new host, such as the honey bee, which would be devastating. Think of it like the bird flu scare coming from Southeast Asia. A virus mutates and gains the ability to infect a different host species. In any event, yes, there are ant viruses.
  5. Brutally sobering, yet outrageously funny in its blatant honesty. This team is bad. Hilariously bad. I find comfort in that. Also loved the shot at Sullivan.
  6. I have no allegiance to the region but would stop watching the NFL if the Bills moved.
  7. Not much obscurity in this thread so far. Here's some, at least for many of you. Die Kreuzen - In School Ridiculously underrated and hugely influential early 80's hardcore from Milwaukee. Norway's punk rock Gods and one of my all-time favs. Too beautiful for mere words. My generation sucks. Doped up speed punk from Seattle set to a Mexican Wrestling tribute. Zeke you! Genius acid casualty and 13th Floor Elevators co-founder. The Mummies Kings of low budget rock and roll!
  8. That's like the NFL punishing the Pats* for cheating by taking away the 31st pick and letting them keep the 7th.
  9. Come on, man. We've seen some bad performances by QBs in a Bills uniform over the past decade. That was a top-five craptacular game. Had they not played a 3-6 team with a QB playing his first road game they would have been down by three TDs in the first quarter. Lets try and keep some perspective.
  10. Someone who loses their party's primary then accepts millions of GOP dollars to run as an "independent," acts as one of the loudest cheerleaders for the worst President in history, campaigns with the GOP, lambasts the Dem candidate and then whines that he'll switch parties if he doesn't get to keep the committee chair that the Dems didn't really have to give him in the first place, is not only unneeded but should be booted to the chair in the Senate washroom. Holy Joe is not a voice of reason. He is not a distinguished statesman. Lieberman is a tool. I hope he ends up making his switch to the GOP official, and I hope that he is sped on his way by the Dems tomorrow.
  11. Personally, I think all organized religion is a sham and they should be paying taxes like every other for-profit company.
  12. Read my post again...the second "are" should have a "c" in front of it. And I don't equate the two, the article doesn't make the distinction. It says that Obama's health care plan would insure 95% of the people and would cost 75 billion, with 25 billion to be recovered from the cost hospitals get paid for uncompensated care.
  13. Health insurance and health are are not the same thing, but a healthier population in the long run would cut costs and decrease demand. The article itself even sites that one third of the cost of the health insurance plan would be recovered from the reduction of paying for the people who currently have no insurance.
  14. Why don't you also quote the points made in the final two-thirds of the article that won't get you your virtual high-five from the rest of the right-wing suck-ups?
  15. Sure, Cowher would be the choice, but no way is Ralph bringing him here. We're stuck with Jauron 2.0 for three more seasons. What will be interesting (and by "interesting" I really mean hilarious) to watch is the Cowher vs. Jauron comparison if Cowher ends up coaching next season. Who will turn their respective programs around first? My money is on Cowher, even after giving Jauronimo a three season head start.
  16. In almost eight full seasons as a head coach, Dick Jauron has coached a team past 7-9 once. I see the Bills losing to CLE on Monday, winning the next two, and losing out the rest of the way. Jauron posts his third straight 7-9 season, and the fourth 7-9 season of his spectacularly mediocre career.
  17. The system seems to work fine for everyone else. How freaking hard is it to toss a red flag onto the field where someone can see it? And if it doesn't look like they saw it, run out onto the field, call a TO, pick it up and fling it at the nearest zebra's head, run up and down the sideline screaming bloody murder. Why make excuses? That single instant in time where Jauron does nothing while the game ticks on by him is a metaphor for his entire career.
  18. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
  19. Career record now 55-71, 0.436 winning percentage. Coaching record with the Bills now 19-22, 0.463 winning percentage. Really, if Jauron somehow manages to get a team to 8-8, it's a successful season based on his record as a head coach. Looking at the schedule, I see them finishing 8-8 at best. Even if Jauron manages something he hasn't done consistantly and the Bills get to 9-7 (they'd have to go one game over 0.500 over the next seven) they still wouldn't make the playoffs.
  20. Dick Jauron is now 55-71 as a head coach and is in his third year as head coach of the Bills using his players in his schemes (19-22 record). That is the answer to any question you have. This is his team, his coaches, his players, his playbook. He will end his tenure as Bills head coach in three years (2011) having never won the division, never won a playoff game, and most likely (based on his long, mediocre coaching career) never have broken 10 wins in a season in this organization. Will I be happy if he somehow pulls off a miracle season? Hell yeah. Would I put money on it? No fugging way.
  21. By week 10 you pretty much are what you have for a record. If they had a bad start and had some real momentum, then maybe you could say they go 5-2 and end the season at 10-6. But what have you seen lately to suggest this isn't a 8-8 or a 7-9 team? I see them going 2-1 over the next three games, then I don't see them winning another game, really. Sure, they should beat Miami in Toronto, but they're going to be underdogs in that game. And you are right that DJ is the same coach. I don't look at that 4-0 stretch to start the season as the norm, though. Dick Jauron is a mediocre coach that can get any squad to play up to 0.500, and he can get any squad to play down to 0.500. Not trying to be negative, but that's who we have in a head coach. That's what we have as a team.
