  1. He just got his second term...he doesn't even need to pretend with all his "compasionate conservative" crap. This will be the most divisive, polarizing four years in our nation's history.
  2. The founding fathers might have something to say about a state-sponsored religious government. Seperation of church and state just took it on the chin yesterday.
  3. Industry. I'm a research scientist. Antimicrobials.
  4. Not related, but E Coli owes me too. So does Eddie Bola.
  5. This lefty just got back from a week-long conference. Was itching to check out what was going on with this board, but was too busy. I'm not going to Canada or anywhere else. Quite frankly, I'm more fired up than ever before.
  6. Sorry, I hit return before I was done. Still too pi$$sed about the results to type I guess . Anyway, the Supreme court will be our new battle ground. We tried, and failed in this election, but there is no way in hell people will accept an Ashcroft on the Supreme court.
  7. I didn't say there weren't idiots on our side. There are plenty.
  8. No. The idea isn't to just get rid of the ten commandments. A lot of this stuff is not as simple as people would like you to believe. Look, no one cares about the ten commandments. The thing is to treat everything equally. In this case, excluding things equally. On face value, a lot of this stuff seems dumb. But, our country is based on laws. Law is a history of precedents. Once a precedent is set, it opens the door to other precedents. We have laws that are supposed to ensure seperation of church and state, laws put into place by the founding fathers so that one religion would not hold precedence or power over another. The ten commandments are probably not offensive to anyone, but displaying them in a government building somewhat violates seperation of church and state because you have put something that is deemed religious in a government building, without giving equal time to other religious stuff. A constitutinal lawyer could probably describe this better than me, I'm a microbiologist.
  9. I don't have a problem with the 10 commandments. I was raised a catholic. They aren't offensive to me, I just don't think there is any room for them in a government building. I don't think anyone is "offended" by the commandments per say, but what do you think the reaction would be if that same government building lobby had a Koran on display? I doubt you or I would even care, but I bet it wouldn't last the day...and who do you think would be shouting the loudest to have it removed? The answer is not Nero, by the way.
  10. The republican party embraced the religious right back in the 80's with Reagan. The Ralph Reeds and the Jerry Falwells were driving that bus. I agree some on the left go to the extreme to fight back, but there are those of us who believe in religious freedom for ALL, and strict seperation of church and state. There is no room for the Ten Commandments in any government building, just as there shouldn't be for the Torah, Koran, or the teachings of JR "Bob" Dobbs, either.
  11. And the Right is totally blameless, isn't it? Loving your country is not always blindly following, but attempting to fight for what you think is right (or left ).
  12. You got it guy. That's our agenda. We don't love our country as much as you do. You're the best American you can be. Very Sincerely, The very far left
  13. Wasn't complaining, just wondered aloud (a-typed) what the point of posting the video was. Really don't care if you think I'm a putz.
  14. Of course someone like me was going to watch it. And of course someone like me would comment on it.
  15. OK. I've watched the video. I still have no intention of voting for Bush. What was your point?
  16. I love this quote from the article: “To combine that word with Florida and Texas, someone understood the past election and where Bush is from, which is what made it interesting,” Glass said. “It wasn’t just kids.” Once again, they're assuming "the kids" don't follow the news or that they paid any attention to what happened in 2000. That's cool. They'll get it on election day.
  17. His hard-core base will still vote for him, no matter what comes out of his mouth now. He's pandering to undecideds who still might buy into his "compassionate conservative" schtick. As for DOMA, he knows it will only take one state to allow gay marriages, then it will get bumped up to the Supreme court which will have to rule on the constitutionality of one state defining marriage for another. If he becomes president, he'll get to choose at least two new Supreme court judges. So he can say whatever the hell he wants, if he's elected it won't matter.
  18. Not for sale. Just making sure your vote COUNTS. If I'm a Kerry or Badnarik supporter in a state like Texas, this may be the only way my voice can be heard. You say you're a third party person, AD. You're in a Red state. You could do your part.
  19. The O'Reilly's, Coulter's and Limbaugh's would have everyone believe that the youth are all "stoned", stupid or disinterested. They couldn't be farther from the truth. Next Tuesday will be a rude awakening for those on the right who look at the polls thinking their boy will win in a cake-walk. The kids won't be throwing rocks this time, they'll be pulling voting booth levers.
  20. Vote pairing is back (http://www.votepair.org/) and look who's lending a hand this time. From "The Return of Vote-Pairing" by Jamin Raskin Posted Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 http://slate.msn.com/id/2108641/ The political dynamics are markedly different this year than in 2000, of course. With America's progressives focused like a laser-beam on ousting Bush and saving the Supreme Court, the pool of Nader-sympathetic progressives has already shrunk drastically. Yet, in a surprising twist, another group has stepped forward to offer hundreds of voters willing to pair: swing-state Libertarians appalled by the Orwellian, antichoice, antigay, and repressive policies of the budget-busting Bush administration. These voters want to declare for Kerry-Edwards and find progressives in closed states to vote for the Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik. In this intriguing new alignment, libertarian groups, among them Libertarians for America and the Democratic Freedom Caucus, are sending their supporters to VotePair.
  21. Anyone else going to be at the ICAAC conference this weekend in DC? I'm trying to schedule my obligations so I can duck out during the Bills game. Any good sports bars near the Wash. Conv. Center? Anyone want to watch JP beat the Cards?
  22. In some ways, their ineptitude is comforting. We don't have to worry about wins, because there won't be any playoffs this year for us. We don't have to worry about losses, or secretly hope for the losses to pile up, because we won't even benefit from a high first-round draft choice. In some ways, this is the perfect season. No pressure...just sit back, get loaded, and laugh at those Wacky, Care-free Buffalo Bills.
  23. We didn't get the Bills game in our area. We got the Detroit Lions/NY Giants game. I watched Joey Harrington have an insane day going 18 of 22, 230 yards and 2 TDs. I defy anyone to tell me that Joey freaking Harrington had/has more "weapons" to work with than Bledsoe in the past three years. The Lions are 4-2. THE FREAKING DETROIT LIONS ARE 4 AND 2!!!!! Mother-&*(^%$#.
