  1. It'll be the same for me as when the NY Rangers finally won the cup after 42 years. I'll be drunk for two weeks, then it's back to screaming at the TV the following season. The only thing that will change is I won't have to hear that stupid "Boy I love Losing SuperBowls" crap that I get from Pats fans now.
  2. Pop music suffered a fatal blow last night. I mourn it's passing.
  3. Ah, sweet Alchohol. Fickle muse, indiscriminate whore. How many letters have I written to thee, only to have them returned un-opend? I both worship and hate you at the same time. If you should leave I would surely die. Thank you, Darin from Alaska, for putting into words what we are all thinking.
  4. Easy Brother. Johnny's not into that kind of thing. And if you're wondering, this pendulum only swings one way.
  5. I don't care who wins as long as it's not Bo Bice. "Rocker" my ass. The guy is a complete poseur. This is freaking 2005, not 1975. Long hair, sunglasses, and Freebird (gag). I hope fafu wins. His lack of talent is the only original thing on the show.
  6. Someone needs to go over to the Browns board and login as "shrub" or "gouge".
  7. I was only trying to point out that I think its ludicris (sic?) to assume that all the people who are opposed to the war do not support the troops over there fighting it.
  8. Can we finally put this whole "If you're against the war, you're not supporting the troops" thing to rest? It's a tired argument. New Poll 57% of the people polled now say the war wasn't worth it. That's well above the percentage of people who voted "left" in the last election. Using your argument and these poll numbers, the majority of people in the United States are therefore against the troops. It was a misleading and dumb assessment before this poll, it's even more dumb now.
  9. I almost gave him a pass for mentioning Earl Warren.
  10. Way to throw in a good "liberal whine" jab in a thread about conservatives whining about not enough conservative faculty.
  11. "Everybody is doing it" is not a good argument. Historically, the connotation of the word is hurtful. As a word, it can not be rehabilitated for everyday use in the English language.
  12. The "N-word" is a verbal swastika. The connotations of the word are too extreme and cut too deep for it to ever be uttered in jest, or tossed around with indiscretion. I can't believe some of you are so anti-PC that you would go out of your way to defend it's usage. There is absolutely no reason for someone in his capacity to utter that word, tape rolling or otherwise.
  13. Sounds like they could use an affirmative action program.
  14. Thunders was the man. Unreal. None of these guys get props for being great guitar players because of the type of music they played, but they did it with people throwing bottles at them and spitting on them, and in some cases they did it in high heels. Johnny Thunders, Bob Stinson, Cheetah Chrome, Billy Zoom, Richie Stotts. Music sucks today. Thanks for posting about the Dolls. It's raining up here. I know what I'm doing today.
  15. Because the American people overwhelmingly do not support a rule change. Washington Post thingy "But by a 2 to 1 ratio, the public rejected easing Senate rules in a way that would make it harder for Democratic senators to prevent final action on Bush's nominees. Even many Republicans were reluctant to abandon current Senate confirmation procedures: Nearly half opposed any rule changes, joining eight in 10 Democrats and seven in 10 political independents, the poll found."
  16. I don't feel his job, right now, 19 months before a significant mid-term election, is to get new voters. I'm talking right now...April 2005. He is trying to get people motivated at a local level. The new voters will come, hopefully, when we start getting excitement at the local, then statewide level. Do you not agree that in order to begin to attract new voters, you need to establish some level of motivation on a local level by party faithful?
  17. What the hell are you talking about? How many “swing” voters will remember in Nov 2006 that Dean offended some republicans in April 2005? Look, if he’s still doing this in Sept 2006, then sure, it’s probably not going to help anyone out. But how many swing voters even care about what Dean says to a small crowd now? It’s just not that big of a deal.
  18. Howard Dean is the Chairman of the DNC. Not the Libertarians, not the Greens, not any other party. You don’t have to agree with what he said/did, but from where I stand, he did nothing outrageous. And according to the article, many Dems agree with me. From the article: Dean was noted for his candid and often unpredictable comments during his campaign last year. Then, as now, many Democrats said they don't mind the former Vermont governor's bluntness. "You don't want a wallflower for a party chairman," one Senate Democratic aide said. Dean is also very good at rallying the party faithful at the local level, internet, fundraising, etc. That is his job as the DNC chair, is it not? From the article: Dean's remarks have not attracted much attention in the national media, in part because he has focused largely on local and regional news outlets since taking the party's helm in February. Howard Dean, no matter what he says or does, will not have any direct influence on “swing” voters, who won’t be voting in significant numbers for another 19 months. He will undoubtedly be a target for the right wing, but who cares. His job right now is to get us moving, get us raising money, get us geared up for local/state elections in preparedness for the mid-term elections. I see nothing wrong with that strategy.
  19. Did Dean over-step some boundries? Probably. But his job as the DNC chair is to get us motivated. I didn't need it, but some people in our party need to get a fire lit under them. Dean is phenomenal at getting support and building momentum. Let him speak out and be the target for the attacks from the right. Let him take the heat.
  20. We don't have to out-scum them. We just have to push them a little, and get out of the way. Guys like Frist and Delay are pretty close to snapping. They are very close to revealing who they really are, and what they truly represent. "Justice Sunday". Classic.
  21. We lost the last presidential election. What could backfire? I think now is as good a time as any to go on the offensive. The mid-term elections are far enough away for this to even matter. Time to fire up the troops at the grass-roots level. Start at the local and state level, build momentum, and come at them in 2006.
  22. As long as the paddles were made by card-carrying members of a carpenter's union, I'd support it.
