  1. I'm not a huge fan of vegetables, but I do think KFC has pretty decent slaw for a fast-food chain. It's a good product.
  2. Good to see at least a smattering of punk rock representation on this list. Here’s my top ten Punk/New Wave Johnny Ramone- Ramones Ron Ashton- Stooges Bob Stinson- Replacements Cheetah Chrome- Dead Boys Johnny Thunders-NYDolls/Heartbreakers East Bay Ray- Dead Kennedys Billy Zoom- X Ricky Wilson-B52s Richie Stotts-Plasmatics Bob 1- DEVO A case could also be made for Stan Lee of the Dickies. Maybe I'll blog a top 100 punk/new wave/hardcore at some point.
  3. Yup. Great place to vacation. Pina Colada's and char-broiled nun.
  4. Yes, let's return to Nicaraguan death squads and smuggling coke to arm counter-insurgents. Those sure were happier times under Reagan. It's Morning in America all over again.
  5. What about Campy's suggestion of a military tribunal? The issue I have is the government saying that we can't try these people because it would reveal what intel we got on them and how we got it. There is no independent body to oversee that we aren't just rounding up people based on shoddy evidence. There is no independent body even listing who we have in custody to begin with. A case could be made that if the enemy knew who we had in custody, then that in of itself would compromise the intelligence gathering. But where does it stop? When does it cross the line and become a South American banana republic "disappearing" people for the security of the nation? It smacks of Orwellian paranoia.
  6. While I completely agree with you, the government's position, right or wrong, has been that to try these individuals under the same legal procedure afforded a civilian, ie prosecuting with evidence, would reveal how that evidence was gathered in the first place, compromising intelligence.
  7. If we knowingly hand over someone we had our hands on first, with the intention of using the third party to obtain information using means that we do not feel comfortable employing ourselves, than I believe that would be outsourcing, yes.
  8. Okay, maybe I used a pretty broad brush with that statement. But aren't we outsourcing some of the torture to other countries/contractors who have less respect for human rights than we do? Also, I don't believe any of our troops are conducting the major interrogations. I was under the impression that the CIA, and in some cases the FBI, was. I could be wrong.
  9. You win. We're just going to have to agree to disagree. PS. Don't sell yourself short, buddy. I know what you do.
  10. Paul, I completely understand we are not dealing with anything close to what passed as historical warfare. I completely understand that we are attempting to deal with a fanatical enemy that is willing to die for their cause, and doesn't give a rat's ass about innocent civilian lives. I understand what you and the rest of the faceless heros that have to plan around this stuff are going through to keep my pastey white ass safe. However, it is of my opinion, and I am clearly in the minority on this board, that it does not give us (the US) carte blanche to abandon basic human rights just because we are fighting an unconventional war.
  11. Is it only a "war" if both sides deem it to be a "war"? In their mind (twisted as they might be) they ARE fighting a war. If we never actually declare "war", does that make it acceptable to treat anyone captured in a conflict on non-US soil however we want, simply because we don't consider it a "war"?
  12. Then call it a damn war, treat these prisoners under the Genva convention rules, and give them due process. Don't play around with freaking semantics to get around treating these "detainees" for what they are...prisoners of war.
  13. The ACLU is not an international organization. The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees: Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state. Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin. Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake. Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs. It goes without saying that the beheading of anyone, American or otherwise, is horrible. But the ACLU is only concerned with what happens to people in the hands of Americans. Your beef is with Amnesty International.
  14. I agree. It is almost a caricature of callousness. If the author, as stated in the disclaimer below the original piece, IS a vocal advocate for the women's right to choose, she would not want to be handing the anti-choice crowd something that they could point to.
  15. I listen to Howard Beale's rant from Network a couple times a week. Here's a link to the mp3 I'm Mad as Hell "You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' " I have it downloaded to both my home and work computer, and sometimes I'll listen to it, over and over, with the headphones on while writing out reports. They think I'm listening to top 40 radio. Nope. I'm not.
  16. It does seem odd that she would have a triple pregnancy right out of the gate without help, but I was just going by what was stated in the story.
  17. Powell and McCain, seperately, wouldn't have a shot in hell of beating Jeb Bush in '08. The far right hates them both, and McCain is getting killed on the fillibuster compromise. You're also forgetting that Jeb Bush will get the full use of the current Bush/Cheney/Rove black ops team, the same team that buried McCain in 2000. Together they would make a formidable ticket, but I doubt either one has the stomach to go up against BushIII. It's too early to predict who the Dem candidate will be. Wait until the mid-term elections and look at the governor and senate races. I would prefer that the dems choose a governor/former governor for a candidate, and not a senator with a voting record that could be attacked by the conservative right. Just my two cents...we all know who I'll be voting for anyway.
  18. I don't think she was on clomid. She told her doctor she wasn't on fertility drugs, and her (their) goal wasn't to get pregnant, but just not to be on the pill anymore. If they got pregnant, so be it.
  19. Did anyone else see the cloud of gnats buzzing around that guy's face?
  20. Good one. Well, that torches my theory about researchers gone bad. I've got nothing.
  21. Couldn't be from Gloucester. They weren't drunk.
  22. The smugglers that stole the kid were white and spoke english. They're probably stranded in Long Island Sound.
