Which Williams? (It’s getting hard to keep track of ‘em all! ?) .
-
If $17million/yr is “peanuts “ to you, Salud! ? As I posted, had you bothered to read, the negotiations went such that, the higher Browns demands, the less the Bills were willing to offer Pittsburgh. The deal fell apart on both sides, hence Beane’s remark that the deal didn’t make sense for EITHER team. Maybe you and a few other GM wannabes would have mortgaged our future by giving away coveted draft picks while at the same time putting us back in cap hell, all for an unreliable, prima donna nutcase. Beane wouldn’t, and didn’t. .
-
So Beane should not have even kicked the tires to establish the parameters of a possible trade? Now THAT’S truly absurd! He never wanted it in the media, because he knew this nonsense would ensue - but Rappaport cared more about breaking the story first than getting the story right. Why don’t you wait and see what else Beane does on the trade and Free Agency fronts? He may surprise you with some super talent of high character. .

I tried to summarize what Carruci said, but there was more. There was a kind of ‘see-saw’ thing going on - in which, the higher Brown’s demands, the less the Bills were willing to give the Steelers. I think Brown’s character was also considered - the whole quitting on the team during a playoff race, complaining about not getting the ball, throwing his QB ‘under the bus’, etc. As Beane commented, in the end the deal just didn’t make sense for either team. .

Am watching Carruci on Sports Talk right now. According to Vic, talks btwn Bills & Steelers began Tuesday and went on thru Thursday, at watch point Beane walked away because he didn’t feel comfortable with Brown’s contract demands. After talks fell apart, Rappaport erroneously reported that a deal was imminent - he apparently wanted to be first, rather than right. Beane would have preferred to keep it quiet, but Rappaport blew it. Beane didn’t feel comfortable with the money demands because we’ve got a bunch of good young players here and, you bring in a guy like AB for all that money, the young guys are going to see his “me first” attitude and start acting the same way. Essentially, Brown would be a cancer in the locker room. Makes perfect sense to me. Brown never said he wouldn’t report to Buffalo. That was just more speculation and bad reporting. If his contract demands were met, he would have reported on time, probably with a cup of Tim Horton’s in his hand, and had wings for lunch. I’m still glad he went with the Raiders. .

How can we not be all in on Metcalf now?
The Senator replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am definitely all in on Metcalf - with one of our 4th round picks. . -
Well, with 2700 replies across 3 separate threads, I’d say this topic has been thoroughly beaten into the ground. I’m glad it’s over, I’m glad the asshead is not coming to Buffalo. Buffalo is, however, going to him. Check out our 2020 schedule... https://fbschedules.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/ Anyone for a little Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? .

But, for now, it’s still a hypothetical. If Atlanta starts shopping him around, I guess we’ll see if Beane is interested. My opinion, and it’s just my opinion, is no. It’s a huge chunk of money to tie up on one player, and I’m not in favor of trading high draft picks for aging athletes. He’ll be 31 next February, and I’d fear that once he get’s that huge deal, his performance will begin to drop off. If we were just one player away, maybe. But I’m with Barbarian and Rico - we’re more than one player and one year away. JMO .

This is a hypothetical, yes? AFAIK, Jones has not demanded a trade. Anyway, while Jones is not a head case like Brown, I just don’t want to see the Bills in cap hell by shooting their load on a 30 year old player. If we were one player away from being a Superbowl contender, maybe. Otherwise, build thru the draft. JMO .

Brown went to the Raiders because they are the only team stupid enough to pay a asshead like him that kind of money. I guarantee that no player that has a choice of teams has EVER made state income tax a consideration. NFL players pay state income tax in every state they play a game. In 2019, the Raiders will pay state income taxes in California, Colorado, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New Jersey. They get a break in Houston because Texas has no income tax. In 2020, when the Raiders move to Las Vegas, Brown will get some small tax relief for the Raiders home games. He’ll lose more in the casinos than he saves in taxes. .

Why do people keep mentioning the ‘no income tax’ thing? It’s a non-issue! NFL players pay income tax in each state they play, which, for the Raiders in 2019, are California, Colorado, Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New Jersey. They get a break on the Houston game cause Texas has no income tax. The Raiders are not playing in Nevada until 2020, unless they play in a 50 year old 36,000 seat decrepit college stadium that they’ll have to share with UNLV. By 2020, Brown will once again prove himself a total asshead and the Raiders will be looking to dump him. .
