Notre Dame Cathedral on fire
The Senator replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
Well, they’re speculating it started in the spire, ‘cause flames were spotted on the roof first. Can’t imagine how they’d cause a spark up there, unless they were welding. Those Parisians all smoke like chimneys, so I guess I could see someone tossing a butt or a match. I’m still thinking it started in that huge open air nave, with all those candles and wood, and all that oxygen to fan the flames. . -

I know. I just wish I had seen the Pyramids before they burned down. . -
Yes, my bad. I’m a card carrying member of the RNC and the NRA, but we’ll keep that stuff on PPP, where it belongs. .

Well you’ve said it right - I prefer bland and neutral to CNN’s blatant liberalism, FOX’s flagrant ‘Fair and Balanced’ conservatism, and everyone else's ridiculous sensationalism. As always, JMHO. .

Probably some candles tipped over. All those pews, wooden doors, and the wooden pipe organ fanned the flames in the large open nave of the Cathedral. Or some altar boys were playing with matches. . -
Started going to the ECAC tourney when I was still a student in Ithaca. Back in ‘91, when I lived in SF, Cornell played a football game at Stanford - some crazy idea the the respective Presidents concocted to celebrate Stanford's centennial and Cornell’s 125th. (Cornell co-founder A.D.White was the first president of Stanford). Cornell didn’t convert a first down until the 4th quarter, when Stanford had all their scrubs in and probably felt sorry for us. We lost 56-6, and started shouting, “OK, now let’s play hockey!” https://www.si.com/vault/1991/10/21/125179/a-real-birthday-bash-even-sacrificial-lamb-cornell-enjoyed-stanfords-centennial-celebration . I like it because it’s on late at night. I’m usually busy at 6 o’clock when our national news is on. Also, I think those of us who live on the border enjoy viewing how our Northern neighbors perceive us. Plus, they’re fair and balanced, I think. .

I still watch The National for world news. Also, one of my favs is This Hour has 22 Minutes - much better than SNL (I believe when it began, it was This Half Hour has 22 Minutes) .

Wow! OMFG wow! That’s pretty freakin’ tragic. . -
Yeah, 6 bucks for a Sabres ticket vs. 400 bucks for the Frozen Four! Go figure. (And I would’ve paid it if Cornell was there) .
-
That’s a lot of dolars! (or loonies) .

Hard to argue that list - the wings at Gabe’s Gate are some of the best in Buffalo, Mike Driscoll (Founding Father’s) will enlighten you his knowledge of history and trivia, and Swanee House is a classic. Interesting that you’ve avoided the ChipStrip. If I could just add a few, Eddie Brady’s The Tudor Lounge Essex Street Pub Cheers! ? .

Yes, Harold Frasee selling Ruth to NY to finance No No Nanette was perhaps the biggest blunder of all time. But we broke the curse in 2004. I realize we’ve got some catching up to do, but how many World Series rings do the Yankees have in this millenium? . Yeah yeah...I’m sure there are NY fans that love Scott Norwood too. .

I liked to watch pro wrestling on ch. 11, with Lord Layton! .

Well, see, I lived in Boston in ‘86, when Buckner let that routine grounder between his legs. Had season tix at Fenway. So you can understand why I don’t like the Mets OR the Yankees. .

So was Baylor’s. You could always count on Boggs for a single or a walk, but, in the clutch, you could always count on Baylor to lean in. .
-
You’re sh*ttin’ with me, right? You’re absolutely messin’ with me for the fun of it .., https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/HBP_career.shtml .

No, that would be Don Baylor. .

To not be a Red Sox fan, is to not be a fan at all. (As always, JMHO.) .

Ohmygosh, Howey Meeker! Peter Puck! Even today, I live for Don Cherry - a kind of ‘Bobby “The Brain” Heenan’ of pro hockey! .
-
All true, but I ‘d rather be the guy the put $85K on Tiger at 14-1! ??️♂️? .

I will concede this - one of the many great things about growing up Buffalo, or what I sometimes affectionately call ‘Lower Canada’ or ‘Fort Erie East’, was having 3 extra TV channels from Toronto, 5, 9, and 11, WAY before someone invented cable TV, and watching ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ every Saturday nite. .

When I’m in Florida, I’m more interested in fishing, eating grouper, and snow crab, than watching any of their teams! As for the Raptors, or any TO teams, well, to me, they are all non-entities. .

I remember when Bowman coached the ‘bres... we’d lead the division and conference in total points, then lose in that stupid best-of-three elimination round! .

I know, I know. As someone once said, there’s a sucker born every minute! .
