The Blind Side...Must see movie.
The Senator replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ditto, Darth - not only would the Bills have a decent LT, but they'd be getting all the 'run-off' human-interest publicity instead of the Ravens. And Brandon calls himself a 'marketeer'??? This April, Russ - if you're still around, please heed our advice on draft day. Maybin??? Honestly, Russ, WTF were you thinking? Link - The Critical Importance of the Offensive Line -

Jimmy Clausen to enter 2010 Draft

Consistent, and correct, Magox. After all, ND gave us Joe Montana - but Joe wasn't a sniveling, whiney, smirking, wanker-type SoCal punk like Clausen! -

Jauron's lasting gift to Bills fans = Fanning Fan Edwards. The Bills will rue the day they chose Edwards over JP. Remember where ya heard it.

Jimmy Clausen to enter 2010 Draft
The Senator replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, there really is no 100% accurate way, since you're rarely comparing QBs from the same program, same conference, same coaches, same o-line, same opponents, same defenses, etc., etc. That's where the 'sniveling-whiney-punk-factor' comes in! -
Jimmy Clausen to enter 2010 Draft

No bets. If you're guy gets drafted first, bully for you, but it proves absolutely nothing. If I were to bet anything, it'd be that Bradford has the better and longer NFL career (see Tom Brady 2000 NFL draft). -

Oh. You wanted a 'football-related' reason why I wouldn't pick him. I thought you wanted to know the reason he's a sniveling whiney punk. Guess I'd have to throw out the '07 and '09 numbers and go with the 2008 stats, since Bradford saw very limited action in '09 due to the shoulder injury, and Clausen was pulled in and out of the starting position in '07 'cause of injuries and 'cause he's a sniveling whiney punk from Southern California... BRADFORD - 2008 328 COMPL/483 ATTMPTs (68%); 4720 YDS (9.8 YDS AVG); 50 TDS/8 INTs; 11 SACKS; 181 RATING CLAUSEN - 2008 266 COMPL/440 ATTMPTs (61%); 3172 YDS (7.2 YDS AVG); 25 TDS/17 INTs; 22 SACKS; 132 RATING That, plus Clausen just LOOKS like a sniveling whiney punk... Ditto on Bradford. Also, judging from the way they dropped like flies this season, the new regime should stockpile the o-line and lb corps like levy/jauron hoarded d-backs. And start by signing FA guard Kevin Boothe - we need to steal a former Cornellian from the Giants just to reverse 'the curse of Pete Gogolak'. Lastly, I'd go with an offensive-minded HC/OC. Maybe even an 'outside-the-box' candidate, instead of the conventional choice of whatever NFL retreads are currently unemployed - maybe someone like... Mike Leach

Well, he did get his ass kicked in a bar fight that he instigated, which I can't ever imagine happening to Bradford. -

"Tall, skinny and brittle." Um...yeah...sure... Jim Kelly - 6'3" 226 lbs. Sam Bradford - 6'4" 223 lbs. Three pounds lighter and an inch taller than Kelly make Bradford "tall, skinny and brittle"? "Brittle." Um...yeah...sure... Link - Sam Bradford goes airborne Guy has the grittiness and mental toughness of a linebacker, just like old #12. "Big 12 doesn't believe in defense." Um...yeah...sure... NCAA Defense Rankings - Total Points Per Game - Nebraska #3; Oklahoma #7; Texas #10; OSU #33; Texas Tech #41: Kansas State #47 (T) NCAA Defense Rankings - Total Yards Per Game - Texas #6; Nebraska #8; OSU #31; Kansas State #41; Missouri #43; Texas Tech #49 And it's not like Clausen has played against defensive powerhouses, either. In fact, only 4 of the teams Clausen faced this season are in the NCAA's top 50 defenses - and he lost to 3 of 'em. Please - no more SoCal surfer dudes, NorCal nancy-boys, or sniveling whiney Notre Dame punks for Bills next QB. If Sam Bradford is on the board when the Bills pick, they should jump at him. -
Shanahan's originally from Oak Park, IL - I'd think anyone would love the opportunity to coach his home-town team. Don't see Cowher picking BuffTown over DC either. Holmgren wants to run things in Seattle, and is friendly with Seahawks owner Paul Allen. Schottenheimer has said he's staying retired and Gruden's staying at ESPN. Ralph may well be forced to look toward an unconventional choice, maybe someone like... Mike Leach

Don't forget to tune to Versus at 3 PM EST today to watch once and future NFL QB JP Losman in the UFL Championship game. It might be your last chance to see him in the UFL, before he returns to the NFL to haunt the Bills! -

Bradford is the most 'Kelly-like' of the QBs most likely to go in round one, IMHO. If Sam Bradford is available when the Bills pick, they should take him. -
Was watching ESPN earlier..what was so special
The Senator replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1) It happened the day after Thanksgiving in front of a national-TV audience; 2)It was against 'The U', who were the defending national champions; 3) It was against Bernie Kosar, who had just led a drive to put the 'canes ahead 45-41 with 28 seconds left; 4) It capped-off a magical season for Flutie and the BC Eagles, who were overwhelming underdogs having gone winless the previous season. Doug Flutie Hail Mary play still magical 25 years later -
Yeah unfortunately the guy who has final say on where Shanahan ends up, is Shanahan - and, while he has said he'd listen to what Bills have to say, he's also said - rightly so - that he'd probably want to wait until the season ends to see what other opportunities are out there. Like it or not folks, that's what faces the Bills with Shanahan and any of the so-called 'tier-one' candidates - and, unfortunately for us, whatever other offers that do materialize at season's end are likely to be better than thew one at One Bills Drive. BTW, as far as I know, Shanahan is still saying that he's had no direct contact with the Bills to date.
-
Well sure, why not? He's had such success at Notre Dame - and gave the NFL Brady Quinn, to boot! Hell, Cleveland had such success hiring former NE* coordinators Romeo Crennel, then Eric Mangini - I'd think Weis could surely be as successful as those two.

The Compelling Case for Mike Leach as Head Coach
The Senator replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're a WEENO, WEO - all you have to do is re-read your copy of today's Boston Herald and you'll realize that the reporters who cover your favorite NFL team understand something that you can't seem to comprehend... "Poisoned the well"??? Please. Peters is a total effin' mercenary - he was going to whomever offered the most $$$$. What does he care about how the fans feel? Did he care when he held out for all the OTAs and training camp in '08? Don't matter none to FatBoy - whomever signed him was going to be stuck with a greedy $60 million malcontent who'll give you half an effort, for half a season. The most telling quote I ever heard from Peters was, "It's all about getting to Hawaii." Not about the team, and winning championships - it's all about you, eh Fatso? Trading Peters was a great move by Brandon - the Philly pick landed us Eric Wood. The only mistake was not using our own #1 pick to draft Oher instead of Maybin.

The Compelling Case for Mike Leach as Head Coach
The Senator replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, so now that Cowher, Holmgren, and Schottenheimer have all said 'NO THANKS' to Ralph, and Shanahan is wavering on even interviewing, let's talk more about Leach... Yeah - Belichick* and the Patriots* used it to go 16-0 in 2007, and continue to use it almost exclusively. Most recently they used it to put up a 59-0 shutout of Tennessee on a snowy October afternoon in Foxboro. Several other NFL teams use a spread offense, or variant thereof, very successfully including the Steelers, Colts, Packers, and Broncos. Next stupid question please? And the answer to that question - Leach was reportedly wooed by Washington, Auburn, and Tennessee last season, and is currently being wooed by both Louisville and Virginia. He's also often mentioned as a possible replacement for Pete Carroll, should Carroll decide to leave USC and return to losing in the NFL. Leach - Huskies Leach - Volunteers Leach - Auburn Unfortunately for Buffalo, we can probably add Leach to the list of coaches that have declared themselves unavailable for the Bills (Cowher, Shanahan, Schottenheimer, Holmgren, etc.)... Mike Leach to stay at Texas Tech fixed (Nov. 21, 2009 - Texas Tech 41, Oklahomo 13) Link - Leach had reason to Jump Around Meyer's an attractive candidate, but doesn't have Leach's record of taking players that were rejected by Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, et al and working them into a successful program - which, IMO, is similar to the challenge he'd face with the Bills roster. I like juniors, and once was called 'The Junior' Senator for just that reason, but unfortunately have grown too old to date them without raising eyebrows. Likewise with the drugs, which are now limited to controlling my cholesterol and high blood pressure, which soars every time the Bills find yet another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. After a decade of not making the playoffs, yes I am willing to take a chance on a coach who took over a losing program and has had a winning record every year, making TT bowl-eligible 10 consecutive years while revolutionizing college football offenses, and has a legitimate shot at the Big 12 title next season. Again, Spurrier failed for many reasons, but mainbly because he did not take the job seriously and preferred the golf course to the long grinding hours of an NFL head coach. He openly mocked Joe Gibbs and other HCs who kept cots in their offices and worked 20-hour days preparing for game-day. Ultimately, Spurrier wanted out of the job. The college coach I prefer use for comparison is Leach's buddy... Jimmy Johnson Well, you left #1 overall pick Tim Couch - whom Leach coached at Kentucky - off your list, but your boy Wes Welker has fared well thanks to Leach's meticulous route-running drills, and your heroes Bill Beilcheat* and Marcia Brady* used a Leach-type spread offense to put up that 59-0 shutout of Tennessee in earlier last month in snowy Foxboro. Speaking of which, aren't you due back in Foxboro to finish eating Belichick's toe jam and polishing Brady's knob? You call it 'one lucky Crabtree TD' Promo, but if you listen to Harrell talk about the play, you'll realize that it wasn't just 'luck' - that was a called play that they practiced over and over again - at least 10 times a day, according to Harrell - and used repeatedly... And it's not just that one play, PTR, that earned Leach the 'offensive genius' handle, or the six NCAA passing titles, 3 total offense titles, and NCAA passing TD records at Texas Tech - it's the meticulous way he prepares his WRs, his emphasis on pass protection (Harrell was sacked 14 times on 626 passing attempts in 2008 - once in every 45 attempts), and the fact that his QBs and offenses have broken school and NCAA records at Valdosta State, Kentucky, Oklahomo, and Texas Tech. I realize I'm in the minority in wanting Leach, and it probably doesn't matter since he's already stated his intention to stay at TT next season, but Ralph should at least try to lure him away. The list of candidates that have declined to interview for the Bills job is growing daily. If the Bills don't land him, when Leach finally does end up in the NFL it will probably be with the Buccaneers - they already got the pirate ship... Raymond James Stadium
