Chan Gailey -- heart attack in 2005
The Senator replied to Pozitive51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meh...hearts are overrated. Mike Ditka had a heart attack in '88 and was on the sidelines the next week. Dan Reeves nearly had one while coaching the Falcons, underwent a quadruple bypass, and was back coaching in 4 weeks... 19 and 0 baby!!! GO BILLSSS!!!! The Buffalo Bills are CHAN-TASTIC!!!!! -
Time for Brohm fans to face reality
The Senator replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Duh! You don't that maybe the reason he didn't mention studying Brohm on film is because there's no film of him to study, and because Brohm has yet to see any significant playing time? Gailey's a former college QB and a former QBs coach - he'll take a good long look at Brohm before deciding anything, but come September I'll bet that Brohm IS the Bills QB, Fitzpatrick the backup, and Edwards is gone. -
Nice post, Mrs. Sullivan. Personally, I salute the TSW posters who continue pointing out that Jerry's an ignorant dickhead.

Chan Gailey's coaching staff...
The Senator replied to Boatdrinks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why the !@#$ do some folks insist on calling Gailey "old"? Guy's like 3 years older than Jim Haslett. Is it out of ignorance? Do they not realize that Gailey and Bill Belichick are 3 months apart in age? That Gailey is younger than Norv Turner, Mike Shanahan, Dick Jauron, Wade Phillips, Tom Coughlin, Marty Schottenheiemer, et al? Or are Shanahan and Belichick also 'old guys'? -
People quitting the Bills (Only)
The Senator replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know. I feel the exactly same way. I'm so pissed I don't even want anyone to mention the Bills. Oh, I'll glance at the schedule when it comes out in May, but that's it. Except for free agency - gotta see who we pick up there. And the OTAs - those should be interesting. Probably will keep an eye on the happenings at St. John Fisher come July, but that's it. Sure, I'll catch the first preseason game or two, but other that all that - like you - I'm done with this team. Who are we kidding???? The Bills are... CHAN-TASTIC!!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! -
Another sour-mash-inspired thread? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) It would been nice to have Leach - if not as HC, then as OC - but methinks he's going to end up with the Raiders, either as HC or as OC under Jim Fassell. (Makes sense, what with the pirate thing and all that...) It'll be interesting to see what he can do with JP Losman and/or Jamarcus Russell.

Focusing on the draft, with some speculation I heard today
The Senator replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No freakin' way RW & Co. pony-up the $$$$ Clausen & his agent will demand, or tolerate the lengthy holdout that will come with those negotiations - nor should they. Bills need to bolster both lines - it's hard to play QB lying on your back. Most mocks this week show Buffalo taking Rutgers OT Anthony Davis. -
You forgot Stage 6 - Unbridled Enthusiasm. Myself, I've transcended from denial, disbelief, and anger to acceptance. Unbridled enthusiasm will have to wait until we see what the draft and free agency bring - or until Chan announces that his OC is... Mike Leach GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!!

Someone actually asked that question? (I was multi-tasking during the PC and didn't catch every single word.) Jeez, a better answer might have been, "Well, I'm only 3 months older than Bill Belichick, a month younger than Norv Turner, 2 years younger than Dick Jauron, 5 years younger than Wade Phillips, 6 years younger than Tom Coughlin...should I keep going, or does someone else have a more intelligent question?"

I will be OK with the Gailey hire if he introduces as his offensive coordinator/qb's coach... Mike Leach
-
I think it was more like RW, RB, & BN going thru a list of potential candidates looking for for someone they were familiar with, when Ralph exclaimed, "There's a name I know...I used to love those Charlie Chan films...let's hire this Chan guy!"

Chan Gailey Football - When Lunesta Just Won't Work

Ah yes, what a glorious time in Bills' history... After serving as a quarterbacks coach the previous season, Kay Stephenson succeeded Chuck Knox as Buffalo Bills head coach on February 3, 1984. Stephenson was reportedly surprised to get the job, claiming that Bills owner Ralph Wilson "never explained his reasons for selecting me." Under Stephenson, the Bills went 8-8 in 1983, 2-14 in 1984,and after losing the first four games of 1985, Stephenson was replaced by Hank Bullough. link And just think - that brilliant personnel move occurred when RW was a youthful 65! DOOOOOOOMED!!!!!!!

In the postgame studio, Ex-Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson had no problem with the final Vikings' touchdown. "It was a butt kicking," the former Cowboys coach said. "If you don't want your butt kicked, play better." link Mike Leach on running up the score: "The interesting thing about football is that football is the only sport where you quit playing when you get a lead," said Leach, whose team has scored 70 points twice this year. "In golf, you keep trying to score well when you’re ahead. In basketball, they don’t quit shooting when they’re ahead. In hockey, they don’t quit shooting when they’re ahead. In boxing, you don’t quit punching when you’re ahead. But in football, somehow magically, you’re supposed to quit playing when you’re ahead. "Well, I don’t subscribe to that. I don’t do it like that. And you know, the truth of the matter is, Nebraska never has either." - Mike Leach, after beating Nebraska 70-10

Don't see how such a hire would excite the Bills faithful, or any potential season-ticket buyers. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for... Mike Leach
-
.No. Absolutely wrong. Leach got into a 'power stuggle' with TT admin (i.e., AD Gerald Myers, Pres. Guy Bailey, Chancellor Kent Hance, et al) - NOT with Adam James. link - A detailed look at the Leach lawsuit As to who won and who lost, I believe the first preliminary hearing to decide that will take place on Wednesday. As for Tuberville, Leach put TT in a great position to win the Big 12 title this coming season - possibly even a BCS contender - so Tommy's got some big expectations staring him in the face. The real measure of Tuberville will be 3-4 years down the pike, when his own recruits and coaching staff will be fully responsible and accountable for the success or failure of TT's program. Of course, by then Leach and his offensive prowess will be the talk of either the PAC 10 or the NFL, whichever route he chooses to continue his meteoric rise through the coaching ranks.

I was never trying to say EssEff was 'wrong', so I'm not quite clear on how I 'proved him right'. I was just stating that one ALLEGED case of abusing/humiliating a player over the course of a 23-year coaching career does not justify a generalization that Leach uses 'humiliation techniques'. Not sure exactly what your problem is, or who stole the jam from your donut, but didn't really think equating 'humiliation techniques' with 'tyranny' was that far of a reach and, since SF Fan didn't object, I guess he didn't either. BTW, exactly what issue did I "side step"? The DN story was not about Leach's inability to adjust his coaching techniques. Not at all. Read it again. If that doesn't work, read it 3 or 4 more times. If that still doesn't work, there are reading comprehension clinics that may be able to help you. Briefly, the DN article was about a quantum shift in society's attitude toward and acceptance of the 'old school', military-type discipline methods of legendary coaches such as Bear Bryant, Woody Hayes, et al, and how Leach, Mangino, and others have fallen victim to that change. PM me for a list of reading comprehension centers in your area. Nice attempt at 'dumbest statement ever made on TSW'!!! LMFAO!!!!! :w00t: You're actually insisting that it's "safe to assume he will use the same motivational techniques at the NFL level", i.e., that he'll use the same methods on millionaire pro athletes that he uses on a teenager??? Besides being a ridiculously stupid notion, it would indicate your belief that, despite his masters degree in sports science/coaching and his law degree, Leach is completely unaware of the existence of an organization known as the NFLPA.
-
Er, um...I'm 'The Senator' - not 'The Professor' - but guess what? There's no such word as 'stupdly' either. (As for whether or not Leach is guilty of "locking up one of his players' [sic] in a shed", I'll let the courts sort that out - you should do the same.)
-
Thanks for the laugh - and for going so far as to italicize 'stupider' [sic] while calling someone else's intelligence into question.

Come on, EssEff ...one incident - ONE - in a 23-year coaching career, and so far it's still just an allegation, and you're branding Leach a tyrant? Sure, Leach's methods may be a bit 'unusual'... Discipline, Mike Leach style: Cruel, unusual and hilarious but The Captain's methods don't even approach those of Alabama's legendary Paul 'Bear' Bryant... 'In 1954, entering his first season as Texas A&M's coach, Bryant held a 10-day summer training camp in Junction, Texas. With Bryant weeding supposedly weak players from the strong by prohibiting water breaks in 100-plus-degree heat, the two dozen to three dozen players who didn't quit became known as the Junction Boys in Aggie lore. If there was a line football coaches weren't supposed to cross, no one dared voice it in those days.' link- Dallas Morning News: Leach enters Woody Hayes' league as attitudes shift, scrutiny grows Anyway, it's absolutely ridiculous to think that Leach - who does hold a masters degree in sports science/coaching - would be so narrow as to use the same motivational techniques on an NFL pro athlete that he uses on his Texas Tech boys. It may be time for The Captain to augment his fascination with pirates and Geronimo with something new - maybe a certain frontiersman and wild west showman named Bill Cody?

Spoken like someone with no recollection of Superbowls 27 & 28.... !@#$ THE COWBOYS!!!!
