  1. Wanna run down the list of first-round 'franchise QBs' that were total busts? Believe me, you do NOT want to see the Bills waste a first round pick on a QB that's gonna demand a fortune, hold up the Bills progress by missing camp in a protracted contract negotiation, eventually get a guaranteed $15M/year multi-year contract after threatening to hold out all season, only to ultimately suck out loud. In Clausen's case it would be particularly distressing, because he's such an a-hole, wanker-punk to begin with. 'Franchise QBs' can be found late in the draft, in the CFL, the Arena League, or even bagging groceries at the local Hy-Vee supermarket. The one place there are none to be found is in this year's first round. You're gonna love Bulaga. So will Brian Brohm and Ryan Fizpatrick.
  2. I don't even have to click on the link to know that the question is, "Who is Bill Belichick*?" Classic!
  3. HAPPY NATAL ANNIVERSARIES!!!! Cheers
  4. Ah, Wikipedia - the ultimate authority on the history of sports vernacular. Yeah, "It's FAN-DEMONIUM!" is undisputedly one of Van's signature calls, which by no means implies that Miller was the first to say it. (Unless you think Phil Rizzuto was the very first person ever to utter, "Holy Cow!" )
  5. The category was "Retired Numbers" - the clue was the player(s) name(s), and the contestant had to identify the team. In their defense, these weren't regular contestants, but college kids. (It's 'College Championship Week' on Jeopardy, so these kids are a bit young - and disinterested - to know anything about Bills' history, plus 2 were girls - one from Dartmouth and one from Minnesota. I thought maybe the guy from 'bama might have rung in, but no.)
  6. NEWS ALERT: Kuato-lookalike Jimmy Clausen ain't no 'franchise type QB' - the Bills draft that a-hole and trust me, Eric Wood and the rest of the team will be lining up to snap Jimmy-boy's shins faster than J.P. Losman can say, "Troy Vincent." Draft Bulaga in round one, Brandon Carter in round 4, Adam Ulatoski in round 5 - then sit back and watch Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm suddenly, magically, morph into 'franchise type QBs'.
  7. Ah yes, nothing says “able to command a high-powered offense” like posing with two of your buddies in tiny little speedos... Jimmy Clausen - President, Lance Bass Fan Club If Bryan Bulaga is 'on the board' at #9, he's our guy.
  8. Really, who gives a hoot? Forget freakin' "fandemonium" - it's sooo 1990's, anyway. A vestige of a bygone era, IMO. Time to 'turn the page' - this season, the Bills are... CHAN-TASTIC!!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!!
  9. Briefly, for Brian Billick's sake, the sequence goes like this... 1) Bills lose 'Music City Miracle' game 2) To divert blame from his own fat ass, Wade makes DeHaven the 'scapegoat' for the fiasco and fires Bruce, states his intention to take more responsibility for Special Teams himself, then proceeds to replace DeHaven with Wade's unqualified crony, Ronnie Jones 3) Bills overall record plummets from 11-5 in '99 to 8-8 in 2000, largely in part to disastrous Special Teams performance under Jones 4) Ralph insists Wade fire Ronnie Jones (not Bruce DeHaven) as a condition of Wade's own continued employment 5) Wade refuses, and is fired 6) Ralph claims Wade 'quit' - or was insubordinate - and refuses to pay Wade for the remainder of his contract 7) Wade sues Ralph and wins his lawsuit 8) Wade moves on to Atlanta, San Diego, and finally to Dallas where his daughter Tracy becomes an exotic dancer and ersatz actress, winning bit parts in films such as Charlie Wilson's War... Ted Cotrell the next Bills DC? I think not.
  10. All these trips around the sun are tiring me out (or maybe it's the wine) so before I fall asleep in front of the TV, thanks Cincy and thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes - and to TBDers Bullpen, johnnyb, sweet baboo, and nuklz2594... HAPPY NATAL ANNIVERSARIES!!!!!! Cheers all
  11. Draft big, nasty, vicious linemen. Start with Bryan Bulaga. Come back and draft Adam Ulatoski in round 5 or 6. Then watch your QB magically improve.
  12. Draft who? There are no Jim Kelly's in this year's crop. Tebow's looking awful at the Senior Bowl - many scouts are convinced he'll never make it in the NFL. Jimmy Clausen? I wouldn't pick him for anything but president of the Lance Bass fan club... Clausen Bradford's got shoulder questions, Pike's destined to be a mid-round pick and career backup. Who would you waste a first-round pick to draft? If you want to talk about 'time efficient' the Bills should have just signed Brett Favre two years ago when he became available, and it wouldn't have cost them ANYTHING - certainly not the first round picks they gave up to get Johnson or Bledsoe - but for some strange, inexplicable reason, they instead chose to place their confidence in the noodle armed, porcelain doll, Dakota Fanning fan... Trent Edwards Draft big, nasty, ugly, vicious linemen. Start with Bulaga. Come back in round 6 and draft Ulatoski. Then watch your QB magically improve.
  13. Spoken with all the intelligence of an Aggie... Aggie Ingenuity Leach was talking about 'PHAT' little girlfriends - not 'fat'. Urban Dictionary - phat But it's understandable that you guys hate him so much... The Leach Era 2000 TTU 15, A&M 33 2001 TTU 12, A&M 0 2002 TTU 48, A&M 47 2003 TTU 59. A&M 28 2004 TTU 25, A&M 33 2005 TTU 56, A&M 17 2006 TTU 31, A&M 27 2007 TTU 35, A&M 7 2008 TTU 43, A&M 25 2009 TTU 30, A&M 52 I guess it's not 'once in a while', but more like 7 out of 10 times 'a pirate can beat a soldier'! No wonder you're so glad he's gone.
  14. Actually, your refrain sounds pretty familiar as well, but that's to be expected from all obsessive Leach-hating Aggies... Of course we all know what happened that afternoon... Honestly though, with all the trash-talkin' crap from that moron on 'Blake's Takes', who can blame Leach for stuff like this... “Now Texas Tech had a 39-point lead over A.&M. and the ball and was moving forward as rapidly as ever. To minimize its humiliation, the A.&M. offense had been running plays meant to use up time and get the team out of Lubbock. The governor of Texas slipped away early and was on his way back to Austin. The guys dressed up as soldiers in the Aggie end zone had run out of military drills to perform. (what - no more drills like ? ) Up in the sky boxes, the wife of an Aggie assistant coach insulted every female Red Raider in earshot by saying that at least she lived in College Station instead of Lubbock. “First of all, we just beat them, 56-17,” Leach says when told of the incident. “By rights she should now be a Red Raider slave.” For everyone but Mike Leach, the game was over, but he jumped onto the field and called a timeout. The referees did not notice: they were too busy throwing yellow flags at the extra Texas Tech players who had tried to get into the game. Tech was penalized, and in the subsequent confusion, Leach let the clock run out. “There was 23 seconds on the clock,” he told me later. “That’s more than enough time. I think we all had a level of disappointment we didn’t score one more touchdown.“
  15. posted the same pix six months ago, moron, when i saw them here... link good one - but wouldn't expect you to know anything about the terps, or football in general. like i said, the only football you NE* boys follow are the cheatriettes* and possibly BC - and even those teams, only if they're doing well stick to clubbing in p-town and 'bird' watching with all the rest of the patriettes* fair-weather fanboys in herring cove - your team* won't be worth following for the next few years anyway
  16. Technically, via trading their 1st-round picks, the Bills also spent 1st-round picks on Rob Johnson in 1998, and Drew Bledsoe in 2003 - both supposed 'known' entities - and got burned both times. QBs are a huge gamble (see Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, Heath Schuler, Jim Druckenmiller, et al), and all the so-called 'can't miss' first-round QB prospects in this year's draft have question marks, IMHO. Edwards is 'cooked'. Draft a LT, and start building an o-line that can keep Brohm/Fitzpatrick/QB-to-be-named upright long enough to find Evans/Owens/WR-to-be-named down field.
  17. Spoken like the obsessed Leach-hating Aggie you are - you guys should be ecstatic that he's gone from the Big 12... As his team raced onto the field, he gazed into the stands filled with screaming fans and wondered about the several thousand "cadets" from Texas A.&M. clustered in one end zone. They wear military uniforms and buzz cuts, holler in unison and stand at attention the entire game. "How come they get to pretend they are soldiers?" he asked. "The thing is, they aren't actually in the military. I ought to have Mike's Pirate School. The freshmen, all they get is the bandanna. When you're a senior, you get the sword and skull and crossbones. For homework, we'll work pirate maneuvers and stuff like that." - Mike Leach
  18. Yeah actually the photos of Leach hangin' w/Bradshaw & JJ are from last year, way before the 'incident', but I figured some knucklehead might buy it and - sure enough - you didn't disappoint. Yeah the Leach story has no 'legs' - it's just me planting all those articles in USA Today, LA Times, NY Times, etc. As for Leach 'creating a web site'? Almost as ridiculous as the notion that the choice cover photos for AT&T's phone directory was his.... And as for the Terps, all I can say is wow, do you NE* fans even follow college football, other than BC? Forgetting about Bills standout Al Wallace? Maryland has always had a respectable program - what Buffalo fan can forget Ed Fulton, Andy Fletcher, Stan Gelbaugh, Tony Greene, Don Healy, Bruce Mesner, or Eric Wilson? OK, most us can, but few of us can forget Frank Reich and 'The Comeback' - Reich was Boomer Esiason's backup at Maryland, ya moron. Here's a list for ya... Former Maryland players who have seen action in the NFL So yeah, Maryland would love to land Leach and once again earn the nickname 'Quarterback U' - which is how they were known in the Bobby Ross era. Like I said, stick to 'bird watching' in Herring Cove.
  19. BeerSphere - I'll say a Word for you to the Guy upstairs. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Mrs. Sphere - thanks for the info & the updates. Keep us posted, as time allows.
  20. OK... Link - "Damn! Nope, no fun goin' on here in Key West. Why the !@#$ am I doin' this, when I could be in beautiful Lubbock coachin' that dickwad Adam James, and talkin' to his a-hole dad five times a day???"
  21. Is that the 'new math' they teach at Provincetown CSD? 60,000 = zero??? Sounds like 'fuzzy math' to me. You may call it "zero outrage", but 60,000 members-strong (and growing 'virally') Team Leach (link) would disagree... Team Leach: Hoisting the Sails, Techsans for Truth Apparently, even ESPN isn't very proud of being used as a pawn in Craig and Adam James personal vendetta against Leach... Mike Leach story highlights importance of journalism ethics ESPN Ombudsman Responds to James-Leach Saga and Eviscerates Mike Patrick As for "obscurity/oblivion", a quick google search would have kept you making yet another in your endless litany of senseless statements. The Leach case is in court-ordered mediation - meanwhile, Texas Tech's own attorneys are providing fuel for another lawsuit against the James family, once Tech settles with Leach... Tech filings reveal lawsuit threatTech filings reveal lawsuit threat Texas Tech attorney says Craig James threatened to sue over now-fired coach's treatment of son In the meantime, Leach has moved to Key West, and is chillin' with Jimmy Johnson, Terry Bradshaw, et al at Johnson's new bar, Jimmy's Big Chill... Leach moves to Key West to recharge Chillin' at Jimmy's Place - "Hey Craig- think I'd rather be coaching your son's dumb ass than doin' this? Yeah, right!" ...no doubt thanking the James family for the vacation, the impending huge settlement, and getting him out of his 5-year contract after one year so he can resume coaching at a better venue in 2011 or 2012. There's talk of Maryland, possibly even the Oakland Raiders - or you might see him on FOX with his pals Johnson and Bradshaw. One place your sure to see him is the cover of Lubbock's 2010 Yellow Pages - Texas Tech AD,Gerald Myer, President Gus Bailey, and Chancellor Kent Hance need to look up a phone #, there he'll be... Ex-Texas Tech coach Leach on cover of Lubbock Yellow Pages ...with a full-page ad for his attorney, Ted Liggett, gracing the back cover! (No doubt Hance and Bailey have issued a campus-wide order to all students, faculty, and staff that all directories be banned - or at least have both covers removed, under penalty of expulsion or termination. )
  22. Absolutely agree, and if you read today's Buffalo News article about Buddy Nix (linked on TBD's home page) - "It's based on a body of work," Nix said. "If you get a guy who's always done it, I think he'll continue to do it. These one-year wonders who you think nobody else has found? They're probably going to get you in trouble... . . . The Bills can only hope Nix has as much success scouting in Buffalo as he did in his last gig, as chief college scout in San Diego, from 2001 to '07. The Chargers have been an NFL power this decade. The ultimate example of Nix's don't-gamble, proven-commodity approach was quarterback Philip Rivers, whom the Chargers acquired in 2004. "He had 51 starts [in college], and he played in a bowl game every year, and he was the most valuable player in every bowl game he ever played in," Nix said. ... it doesn't sound like Nix is inclined to gamble this year's first-round pick on any of the junior QBs (Clausen, Bradford) looking to hit paydirt in this year's draft. In fact, it sounds like he'd be more inclined to draft Tebow, or just stick with Brian Brohm and build an o-line that will allow him to stay upright long enough to find Lee Evans and [insert Terrell Owens or his replacement] down field. I agree with all those that say draft Anthony Davis or Bryan Bulaga in round one, THEN start thinking 'best athlete available' - a DT or LB in round 2, maybe - MAYBE - take a risk with Tebow in round 3 or 4 if he's there. Personally, I'd take Davis/Bulaga in round one, then come back in the later rounds and take Adam Ulatoski. Get some depth at LT, and take guys with character. (Just imagine someone with Jason Peter's raw talent, that isn't a half-ass slacker with an attitude problem.) GO BILLSSS!!!! REVERSE THE CURSE!!!!!
  23. If, and it's always a big IF, then yeah he would be - for anyone but the Bills, who have sufficient depth at the position but have glaring needs at LT, DT, DE, LB, and QB. Then again, it's always a big IF. As Buddy Nix stated in this morning's Buffalo Snooze, scouting is an "inexact science". And even if it weren't, sometimes positional needs trumps best athlete available. To take it to the extreme, it wouldn't make sense to keep drafting a QB in the first round every year - even IF he was the best athlete available, right? (Presumably that's why the Bills didn't draft Matt Leinart in '06 - they had used a 1st round pick on Losman just 2 years earlier, and thought their other needs were greater.) Now, of course, the Bills will go and pick Berry...
