But you also know there are many other example of Bills dominance from that era - I guess I could have cited 1988 - 24-3 over the Bears, 28-0 over Green Bay, 31-6 over Miami 1989 - 34-3 over the Jets, 30-7 over Indy, 37-0 over the Jets (poor New Jersey ) 1990 - 30-7 over the Jets (again), 42-0 over Cleveland, 45-14 over Phoenix, 31-7 over Indy 1991 - 35-7 over Indy (again) 1992 - 40-7 over the Rams, 38-0 over the Colts (freakin' Indy must have HATED the Bills by then), 41-7 over NE*, 37-10 over Miami, 20-3 over the Raiders (I'm sure they hated us too), 27-3 over Houston (a precursor to the Bills 'Greatest Comeback in NFL History against the same Houston Oilers in the Wildcard playoff game the following week) and - one of my personal favorites - 41-14 over the a-hole Jerry Glanville's Atlanta Falcons (I still remember Deon Sanders hot-doggin' it, thinking he was such a big deal, holding his head and high-stepping into the endzone as he returned a late INT for a meaningless TD, making the final score seem only slightly less lopsided than the game actually was). Wow - 1992 really was a great season. And I remember, after we lost the Superbowl that season (our 3rd) I bought a t-shirt that read In Buffalo, Superbowls are our hobby - see you next year in Joe Robbie! That's how confident we were in our team back then and, sure enough, the following season the Bills again represented the AFC in Superbowl XXVIII at Joe Robbie Stadium! It's our time again. I feel it. That's hysterical. One of the other things that made that game so sweet, besides being winning the AFC title and our first trip to the Superbowl, is that we had beaten the Raiders pretty convincingly, 38-14, in early October that season and man, were they ever talking trash about coming back to avenge that loss. You do realize that Tony Dungy is a descendant of the LOU SABAN coaching 'tree', which has produced 3 Superbowl winning coaches - Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, and Mike Tomlin. Another descendant of the Lou Saban coaching 'tree' is none other than... Chan Gailey I guess we covered! Time for this team to return to its rightful place atop the AFC East, then the AFC, and then it's on to Dallas and let's win there! -
I don't doubt that Johnson could benefit from Extenze (and Viagra, for that matter), but it seems there's nothing that f&%#ing whore won't lend his name to, whether he knows anything about the product of not... BetterTrades Infomercial featuring Jimmy Johnson

Why would ANY Bills fan care what an ex-Dolphins coach thinks???? One of our favorite Doug Flutie stories was when then-Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson, trying to motivate his team for an upcoming game against the Bills, destroyed a box of Flutie Flakes in front of his team. [insert mental image of Jimmy 'Hairspray' Johnson stomping on a box of cereal, thinking it would inspire his team to win a football game.] When Flutie heard about the incident, his face fell. "That cereal is to benefit autism research," said Flutie, whose son is autistic. "That's like him stomping on my son." Johnson later issued a public apology.

...and also for some of us older fans who have become a bit jaded and cynical during a 10-year playoff drought, I give you The AFC Championship Game-Jan, 20, 1991 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I57EZLhJn7g I remember being in the upper deck that late January day, typical OP wind a-blowin', and yet not feeling the least bit cold. Art Shell, OTOH, had to be freezing down there on the sidelines - I believe the Bills no-huddle so confounded the Raiders that he was forced to call a time out on Buffalo's first drive! What a glorious time it was. There were four future NFL HOFers on the field for Buffalo that day (Kelly, Thomas, Lofton, Smith) and another on the sidelines (the silver-haired guy with the headphones). That team made a run at 6 consecutive AFC titles, winning 4 (were it not for Ronnie Harmon, who knows how many consecutive Superbowls we might have played) and was arguably the very best team in football for at least 3 of those seasons. (It should be noted that 'Desert Storm' - the first Gulf War - started only 4 days earlier, which the announcers referred to when they mentioned the bad news from the Middle East. The following week Superbowl XXV was broadcast to our troops in Iraq, who saw the first of 4 consecutive Buffalo Bills Superbowl appearances.) Just thought I'd put it up here for the younger fans - some of whom know Steve Tasker only as a West Herr pitchman - to quell some of the negativity as the new season begins. The beginning of a new season SHOULD be full of hope, anticipation, and excitement. As Marv Levy once said to me, standing at the adjacent urinal in the RWS press box men's room, "Here we go again!" Things can only get better from here - it's going to be a GREAT season... 19 and 0 baby!!! GO BILLSSS!!!! PosLUSZny!!!!!

At the Stadium or at Home?
The Senator replied to FightinIrishBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like both - generally I like to watch home games at RWS, and road games on my couch! -
And let's not forget Taco Tuesday - I believe my name is still on the taco eating HOF Wall at OB's Grill & Bar in Manhattan Beach.

This season just gets more intriguing to me. Cowher seems to think very highly of Chan Gailey. I don't know how many are aware that Gailey is actually part of the Lou Saban 'coaching tree' - The last time the Bills won a League Championship (1965), Bills head coach... Lou Saban coached a linebacker named... Marty Schottenheimer who, when he was head coach of the Cleveland Browns and then KC Chiefs, hired a special teams coach and then defensive coordinator named... Bill Cowher who, while head coach of the Pittsburg Steelers, for 4 years had a WR coach and then offensive coordinator named... Chan Gailey!!! What does this portend? Is this a good omen? Could perhaps another Buffalo Bills league championship be on the horizon??? 19 and 0 baby!!!!

Anyone use game Day Express ??
The Senator replied to Otto Graham's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great service - I used it almost all last season. Definitely beats the risk of having a few beers and driving, and saves the $25 parking fee as well. Fare has changed - I'm pretty sure it's going to be $1.75 each way this season (still a fantastic buy.) Trip takes about 30 minutes once the bus pulls out - you'll see it sitting there out in front of Barnes & Noble. It'll let you off in the far back of Lot 3 (across from the stadium & field house on Abbott Rd.) And yes - you can certainly take it one way - the very cool & courteous driver just asks that folks let him know as you get off the bus at the stadium that they're only traveling one way, so he doesn't wait for you on the return trip and hold up the rest of the crew. GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!! -
A sandwich - of dubious origin - made of leftovers, bits of curdled milk/cheese-waste-product, and any of various types of barbeque from a 'region' that is basically the entire southern quadrant of country - BUT NO BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS???? It aint' right, EssEff, it just ain't right.

Suggestion on a Nice Restaurant in the WNY area

I never tell people about Mulberry, because it's too good to be true. (and, the fewer that know, the better ) -
I am also still cackling out loud. Classic Dean, that was.

Dunno what Tuna's problem is - I'm very pleased with Chad.

Suggestion on a Nice Restaurant in the WNY area
The Senator replied to zevo's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Well, it's certainly possible that I and the 2 folks I dined with all got unusually bad meals, as the place does get good reviews, but I'd never dine there again or recommend it (the potato pancakes and migos stew absolutely suck out loud). And, if I'm trying to find someplace nice, someplace special for my wife's 30th birthday, I'd probably avoid a place that serves wild boar meatball bombers. -
Worst cities for NFL game traffic
The Senator replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I lived downtown I used to make it from my house in the marina to RWS Lot 2 Pole 6 in about 25 minutes. Now, from Lancaster, it's a different route but about the same time. Unless you're coming from Canada and have a border crossing, or you're just leaving your house an hour before kickoff, the commute to RWS on game day has to be one of the easiest, painless, quickest, congestion-free commutes of any NFL city. -
I'm still wondering if this might be the palatial $400K house in San Diego that mpl6876 is giving away... link If so, Hossage must be rooting for Green Bay!

"I think that a guy who plays...football gets enough attention. It's a bunch of narcissists that want to sit and type stuff about themselves all the time. We'll put mirrors in some of their lockers if that's necessary, but they don't have to Twitter." - Mike Leach

My 2 shekels... Left Bank is great - intimate, great food, but certainly no secret. I met some friends there for drinks after a BPO concert, and Andre Watts, Joanne Falletta, and an entourage of a dozen or so came thru the door about 40 minutes after I got there. Everyone in town knows and loves the place - if you're planning a weekend dinner, reservations are tough. Ditto with Hutches - great food but expensive, crowded, tables are too close, and the ugly zebra-pattern carpet is starting to smell a bit musty. Don't know if you're aware that Russ Salvatore has a new place that is VERY nice... Russell's (Russ started deeding ownership of the old place to his son Joe and, when Joe finally had a controlling interest, Russ got pushed out. In the ultimate version of 'Family Feud', Russ acquired a large parcel of land just down the road and built a new hotel and restaurant - much more subdued and elegant than the tacky 'World's Largest Supper Club'/banquet factory at Genesee & Transit.) Someone already mentioned David's Grille in Orchard Park, so I'll just concur that very nice, relaxed, with great food. If the Southtowns is your destination, one of my favorites is Root Five in Hamburg. (Owner's name is Dave Root, restaurant on Route 5 right on the lakefront.) Excellent food, several rooms inside with varying degrees of intimacy, or huge outdoor bar/patio overlooking Lake Erie with unsurpassed view of the sunset. Now if you want the city, there's Templeton Landing or Harry's Harbourside Grille Templeton Landing is in the marina at the site of the old Crawdaddy's, Harry's is further up the river off Niagara Street and a bit nicer. But my own recommendation, if you want to really treat the wife, would be Rue Franklin (Franklin St. near corner of Tupper). Definitely need reservations, as the place is very intimate - only 16 tables, I think. After dinner, you could go turn left out the door and have an after dinner digestif at Laughlin's (same owner as the Chop House), or turn right and take it down several notches at the Tudor Lounge. Enjoy! -
I knew it! Watch it in slow motion - her head goes back!

It's not just you - I thought the exact same thing.

Why not build it on the edge of the falls???
The Senator replied to Merle Haggard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You guys are putting the cart before the horse. Seriously guys, who's gonna fund a new stadium ANYWHERE in WNY without a long-term commitment from the Bills? And by long-term I mean similar to the New Jersey Giants 25-year lease with options to 97 years. And with all the union shake-downs in The Falls, it's take 25 years to build the damned thing there anyway. Now if you's care to consider something other than total fantasy, there's about 1100 acres of waterfront land just south of downtown Buffalo on a major highway (Route 5) that arguably cannot rehabilitated for any viable use, except possible a football stadium with surrounding parking lots... link (They could even put a few more windmills up and market it as the NFL's first totally 'green' stadium! ) -
sabres new uni's leaked on channel 7's site
The Senator replied to justnzane's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That was apparently the intention... An early look at the Sabres' new jerseys Now if Eddie Shack's nose precedes the puck over the blue line, if the play considered off-sides? Great hi-lite film, but that song is almost as bad as listening to... Schony Sings
