The Hank Bullough era returns to Buffalo
The Senator replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Stephenson was 8-8 in his first season here - so Chan's got some catching up to do if he hopes to match that record in his first year. Bullough, OTOH, had 5 years as a DC w/Cincinnati and NE*, and supposedly was the guy that introduced the 3-4 to the NFL - maybe we should hire him back? Seriously, though, let's give Chan Gailey a bit more time, and hopefully some talent in the player department - remember that Levy was 2-5 in first season (after taking over from Bullough), then 7-8, then 12-4 and AFC East division winner. Three years - I believe that's what Ralph said it would take to rebuild in his interview with John Wawrow yesterday. -
Andrew Luck can play Linebacker too !!
The Senator replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like there'll be a lot of very disappointed TSWers when Luck announces he's staying at Stanford to finish his degree and get a 3rd year of experience at QB. (Don't worry, Mallett will make that disappointment disappear in an instant.) BTW, Stanford actually has a real, bonafide 2-way player that you Luck-lovers should get excited about - Owen Marecic - and he'd look GREAT in a Bills uniform... The Perfect Player -
Nothing earth-shattering or unconventional about that - I think the Bills and most teams use former (and current) players to recruit FA's all the time - particularly if that player has a relationship with the FA from college or another NFL team.

Totally lame.

You know what disgusts me? Stupidity. Morons that spout their ignorance all over the page, when it would be so easy - and take no more than a few seconds - to look up a few simple facts. Namely, you. 1973 9-5-0, Finished 2nd in AFC East Division (OJ's big year, missed wild card spot by one game to 10-4 Cincinnati Bengals) 1974 9-5-0, Finished 2nd in AFC East Division (playoffs) 1980 11-5-0, Finished 1st in AFC East Division (playoffs) 1981 10-6-0, Finished 3rd in AFC East Division (playoffs) Now you could have easily learned that on your own, before making a total ass of yourself. You could have also just done a simple math operation - based on what I posted - and asked yourself, "Gee, when were the other 8 playoff appearances?" (I'll leave it to you to figure out the remaining 4 playoff appearances - think you can handle it?) 'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.' Idiot. -
You can bet the house that Buddy Nix - an SEC fan from way back - is just drooling over Mallett. Dude can chuck the 70 yards downfield, is super accurate (69% this season with a 170-rating), more than mobile enough, huge like a linebacker, and has lots of BIG-game experience - all things that in a Nix just loves in a QB prospect. If we're gonna suck-out-loud for the rest of this season, I hope we at least end up with Ryan Mallett for our troubles.

Its time to move on to Brian Brohm
The Senator replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is no 'love affair' - but there is a former Heisman candidate and top QB prospect sitting on our bench that needs to be evaluated in an actual regular-season game or two - maybe even three - before anyone has a right to say he sucks. Is that too hard to comprehend? -
Why is anyone bothering to compare one college QB that's staying at Stanford next season to finish his degree, to one who tries to win games with his feet and is - at best - a late 2nd/ early 3rd round draft pick? (Or does this have nothing to do with whom the Bills should draft, and you're just comparing the 2 QBs for the hell of it?)

Fitz is Fitz. Fitz will always be Fitz. We know what we have there. Bring on Brohm - let's see what we have there. -
The Hank Bullough era returns to Buffalo
The Senator replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No it's not - I need to know who Ralph Wilson sold the team to in 1988 before he bought it back in 2000??? 1987 7 8 0 .467 4th in AFC East 1988 12 4 0 .750 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1990 13 3 0 .813 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1991 13 3 0 .813 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1992 11 5 0 .688 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1993 12 4 0 .750 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1994 7 9 0 .438 4th in AFC East 1995 10 6 0 .625 1st in AFC East (playoffs) 1996 10 6 0 .625 2nd in AFC East (playoffs) 1997 6 10 0 .375 4th in AFC East 1998 10 6 0 .625 3rd in AFC East (playoffs) 1999 11 5 0 .687 2nd in AFC East (playoffs) 2000 8 8 0 .500 4th in AFC East There was a 7-year playoff drought between the Chuck Knox & Marv Levy eras too, so it's not like this is unprecedented - and it took Marv 3 seasons to turn the team around. You and anyone else that wants to rag on Ralph Wilson should also remember that he brought 2 AFL Championships to the City of Buffalo, along with 4 conference titles, 10 division championships, and 17 playoff appearances, and he's had ample opportunities to move the team and make more money elsewhere. -
Where the problem lies, No Brainer.
The Senator replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, they really couldn't - he'll be gone in the top 5, maybe #1 overall, but will most definitely be the first QB drafted. But they could draft Locker in round 4, or Luck when he graduates in 2012 (if they still need a QB after getting a good look at Brohm, and if they lose out on Mallett, and if Luck continues to improve -rather than implode or get injured - and if the Bills will be drafting that high in 2012). -

Good point. Fitz did more than enough to beat New England, the Jets, and Jacksonville - if only our defense could have stopped them. So I guess we're all set at QB. -

You're right - didn't mean to put words in your mouth. All you said was that he threw for a bunch of yards against a ranked team. All I said was, big deal - with the game on the line and the ball on the Oregon 11, he choked. -
PLEASE come out Andrew Luck
The Senator replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mallett does that just about every week. Did Luck - down by 14 with just under 3 minutes to play - throw a horrible pass on first down at the Oregon 11 yd line, and the Ducks INT and subsequent TD-drive kill any hopes of the Cardinal coming back to tie in the last 2 minutes? Maybe you call it 'greatness' - but that's a choke, in my book. -
Had a Select 55 last week - might as well just drink water.

What the Blue Angels do is borderline-insane, and I LOVE it. Lived in EssEff for 7 years and don't know anyone who didn't enjoy Fleet Week and the air show, even though the shock-waves from those F-18s used to set off every freaking car alarm in the city during their practice flights...

Didn't intimate that at all, ya knucklehead - in fact, I'm sure he's not a homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with that). It was just a joke alluding to the thread title, and the fact that San Francisco (a.k.a. 'Boy's Town') has a good a chance of being in a position to draft before the Bills (as does New England*). And it doesn't really matter what was 'widely thought' about the 49ers' ability to compete - fact is, they're 0-4 just like the Bills. BTW - I think your post lost ALL credibility when your referred to Nix as 'Buddy the Blunderer'... After a successful college football coaching career at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, which included the recruitment of Terrell Owens, Buddy Nix was a regional scout under John John Butler from 1993-2000 for the Buffalo Bills, specializing in the southeast. Nix left Buffalo for San Diego with John Butler and A. J. Smith after the 2000 season. He was initially the Director of Pro Player Personnel (2000–2001), but after Butler died, Smith was promoted to General Manager, and Nix to Assistant General Manager. Nix's job with the Chargers was to oversee both pro and college scouting and to be one of the main decision makers in each NFL Draft. Nix was a major reason the Chargers turned around from a losing football team to a rebuilt, winning team. In 2004, three players Nix drafted were selected to the 2005 Pro Bowl. In 2005, six players Nix drafted were selected to the 2006 Pro Bowl. In 2006, eleven players Nix drafted were selected to the 2007 Pro Bowl. In 2007, eight players Nix drafted were selected to the 2008 Pro Bowl. The Chargers won four out of the last five AFC West titles with Nix as Assistant GM and Director of Player Personnel, in charge of college scouting and instrumental to the decision making process of their NFL drafts. Nix was hired as a National Scout for the Buffalo Bills on January 26, 2009. He was named General Manager of the Buffalo Bills on December 31, 2009, after Russ Brandon was promoted to CEO. Nix has been around too long to become enamored with a sophomore QB from a weak conference. He might get excited about Ryan Mallett, who's probably a better fit for Buffalo and our cold, windy winters anyway. -
PLEASE come out Andrew Luck
The Senator replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All the Luck-worship is getting a little sickening - it's WAY to early to annoint Luck 'The Savior'. Tthe kid has started less than 20 college football games, and Stanford doesn't exactly play a lot of 'powerhouses'. Luck's improvement from last year is amazing but he still managed to choke against the only Top 25 team he's faced this season, throwing the game-losing INT in the last two minutes. He should definitely stay in school, finish his degree, and get another year of experience - and that still doesn't guarantee that he'll he any good in the NFL. Anyway, if he does declare for the 2011 draft, no way Buddy Nix will pick him. Nix doesn't like green, inexperienced college QBs. Also way to early to think that Buffalo - not San Francisco, Detroit, Carolina, Oakland/NE*, etc. - will have the opportunity to pick the first QB in the next draft. (Might be more appropriate for Luck to 'come out' in San Francisco, anyway.) -
Where are all the Jason Peters and Langston Walker Haters?

Actually, I think Brandon was promoted to from GM to CEO (and should definitely be congratulated for the Peters trade - one of his best moves as a GM). -

Looks like Thurman #1 hasn't been successful 'converting' you. (Or any of the Eagles' faithful.) What a great trade the Bills made - a washed up lazy fat dude wanting a $60M payday, for Eric Wood and Shawn Nelson!
