  1. must be our bye week...
  2. Nice sentiment, but completely untrue. In fact, while the McKinley assassination certainly brought shame and embarrassment to The BuffTown in 1901 - much like Kennedy/Dallas/1963 - the City of Buffalo continued to grow at a tremendous rate for the next 50 years. Similar to Dallas, we named a few streets, schools, and parks after the guy, put a big obelisk in front of our new city hall, and The BuffTown was able to 'shake it off' and continue to grow and prosper until it finally peaked in thee 1950's... City of Buffalo Population 1900-352,387 1910-423,715 1920-506,775 1930-573,076 1940-575,901 1950-580,132
  3. I am happier than earlier in the day - now that SE Missouri rallied to beat Austin Peay, there's still a chance the Bills will pick Matt Scheible.
  4. the silliness continues...
  5. I also like Gabe Carimi better and hope we can get him - his stock likely went way up tonite. Like you said though, at least the Bills know they have o-line needs. At least they're doing their jobs. I'm sure they're scouting all the top-ranked OTs - at least I hope so. BTW - just took a quick look and, sure enough, knocking off the the #1 Buckeyes 38-18 sent Carimi to the top of the charts... link
  6. Interesting choice of words there, CM - if you remember, Jim Kelly ended his USFL career with the New Jersey Generals & "The Donald". Could Jim be the ultimate apprentice here, and Trump a potential buyer? Jimbo may not have any bonafide business experience, but you can't question Trump's business accumen, and he was a team owner some years ago in a rival league he helped form - albeit a failed league. Back when Kelly first started talking about this, I always suspected that Jack Kemp was involved in some capacity - and, when Kemp got involved with former NY governor Mario Cuomo, Henry Aaron, and Tony Tavares (Washington Nationals owner) to form a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), I was virtually certain they were putting something together to buy the Bills based on certain things they were saying that 'resonated' with Jim Kelly's statements... "The more I looked at it, the more I realized that the potential for sports properties and entertainment in a global economy is huge," said Kemp, who runs Kemp Partners, a Washington-based investing firm, and is chairman of Sports Properties. "SPACs are hot." Murstein reached out last summer to Kemp -- a former professional football quarterback, Republican congressman and vice presidential nominee -- bringing him on as chairman of Sports Properties. "I knew he would be a great door opener and someone who understood not only sports, but public financing of sports facilities," said Murstein. Sports Properties then tapped Tavares as chief executive, hoping to draw on his experience running other sports franchises, including the Nationals, the California Angels and the NHL's Mighty Ducks. A partner at Kemp's firm, James R. Taylor, is an adviser to the SPAC; Aaron and Cuomo are directors. For now, Sports Properties is a shell in search of a real company. Last month, its managers went on a nationwide tour to find investors, raising $215 million. The units began trading on the American Stock Exchange two weeks ago, and closed at $9.84 on Friday, 1.6 percent below the IPO price of $10 per unit. Now that it has investors, the firm is on the hunt for an acquisition, maybe something involving a professional sports team or a new stadium. Kemp said he is interested in exploring the construction of an arena in Las Vegas for a future National Basketball Association franchise. "We are looking to buy something for a lot more than the $215 million," Murstein said. "We can raise more equity, apply leverage, or have the seller take back stock. We could buy something for over $1 billion for example." (link - 2008 Washington Post article) Something for 'over $1 billion'???? Hmmm..... Of course, then Jack Kemp succumbed to cancer and died on us. (RIP, Jack - Bills fans still remember and love you.) Now, The Donald - he could probably just write a check.
  7. Nah - he shot his load in the first 6 games, then didn't do **** this week - and Mallett got a concussion and left in the second quarter, dude's obviously a total bust too. So Newton's the new 'flavor of the week', eh? 'Mother Theresa'?? Seriously???
  8. For me, it will always be 'The Curse of Pete Gogolak' - after the Bills won the AFL title in 1965, NY Giants owner Wellington Mara violated an agreement between the two leagues and signed Gogolak from the Bills. The AFL was in its infancy and Ralph was unprepared for a bidding war, so Gogolak left for $greener$ pastures. Gogolak went on the become the NY Giants' leading scorer - a stat he owns to this day - and the Bills haven't won a league championship since. The season immediately after the Gogolak incident, the Bills missed out by one game on playing against Lombardi's Packers in the very first Superbowl, and would wait 25 years for another shot at a league championship in Superbowl 25 against - go figure - the NY Giants, setting in motion that unprecedented string of four consecutive Superbowl losses. Time to end the curse - we all need to grab our Whammy Weenies rent a bus, take a road trip to Hawthorne, NY, and do a REVERSE THE CURSE!!!!! dance on Wellington Mara's Grave!
  9. Mallett reminds me of Jim Kelly - concussions and all.
  10. He reminds me more and more of Kelly every week!
  11. Actually, K-LOC KoKo is OK with his spelling, as there are multiple 'correct' spellings of the principle that bears the name of William of Ockham. Just FYI.
  12. Only further exacerbated by also passing on Michael Oher... He started the 2009 season as right tackle, but was moved to left tackle after an injury to lineman Jared Gaither. In week eight, he returned to right tackle. Oher started every game in 2009, 11 at right tackle and 5 at left tackle. He played right tackle in his first post-season game, January 10, 2010, against the New England Patriots, and did not allow a single sack as the Ravens won 33–14. Michael Oher was second in the voting for Associated Press' NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, with 6 votes. Prior to the 2010 NFL season, Oher was moved to left tackle permanently. Anyway, since a bye-week is almost like a mini-offseason on TSW, I'll play the 2011 draft game too... Round 1a - Ryan Mallet – QB - Arkansas Then, use our high 2nd round pick & our 5th or 6th & 7th (I'm willing to sacrifice the next Danny Batten and Kyle Calloway) to trade back into round one for... Round 1b – Gabe Carimi – OT - Wisconsin Now go back to your hotel, Buddy, and rest up for Days 2 & 3 - which should go something like this... Round 3 – Dontay Moch – OLB/DE - Nevada Round 4a - Greg Romeus – DE - Pitt (probably a late 1st/early 2nd round pick, if not for the back injury) Round 4b – Owen Marecic – FB/LB - Stanford Rounds 5,6, & 7 - Forget about those, Buddy, you just drafted FIVE great players! Now head to the bar, enjoy a nice bourbon & branch water, and congratulate yourself on a job well-done. (It's fun to dream.)
  13. Bill, I agree with both you and R2 - we should draft Ryan Mallett, then package our very high round-2 pick with a 5th - or 6th & 7th - to trade back into round one and grab Gabe Carimi (I'm willing to eschew another Danny Batten or Kyle Calloway in this year's draft, if it gets us Gabe). The key is how far Greg Romeus (DE, Pitt) drops because of his back injury, and can we get him in the 3rd or 4th - or Dontay Moch in the 3rd & Romeus AND Owen Marecic with our two 4th-round picks? That would be enough for me on draft day - Mallett, Carimi, Moch, Romeus, and Marecic - I wouldn't even care about anything after that. We'll have a nice chance to watch Mallett on CBS this afternoon against Auburn, and Carimi against the Buckeyes (& Cameron Heyward) tonite. Until then, enjoy some 'sweet dreams' of this QB in a Bills uniform...
  14. They seem like very clean, well-scrubbed hippies to me. Good stuff, Deano - RIP, T.
  15. You make some excellent points, my Programming Primate friend, but what flies in the face of your Occam's Razor reasoning - to me, at least - is all this noise Jim Kelly has been making about an well-funded ownership group ready to buy and keep the team here. Kelly doesn't seem the type to make up that kind of ****, so why would he be saying the things he's been saying for the last several years? Any thoughts?
  16. It goes back much further than Flutie - for me, it will always be 'The Curse of Pete Gogolak'... The Bills were the AFL Champions in 1965 when NY Giants owner Wellington Mara violated an agreement between the two leagues and signed Gogolak from the Bills. It would be the Bills' last league championship. The AFL was in its infancy and Ralph was unprepared for a bidding war, so Gogolak left for $greener$ pastures. Gogolak went on the become the NY Giants' leading scorer - a stat he owns to this day - and the Bills haven't won a league championship since. After the Gogolak incident, the Bills missed out by one game on playing against Lombardi's Packers in Superbowl I, and would have to wait 25 years for another shot at a league championship in Superbowl 25 against - go figure - the NY Giants, setting in motion that unprecedented string of four straight Buffalo Bills trips to the Superbowl, and four straight losses. The curse needs to end - we all need to grab our Whammy Weenies rent a bus, take a road trip to Hawthorne, NY, and do a REVERSE THE CURSE!!!!! dance on Wellington Mara's Grave!
  17. If I was Andrew Luck, I'd be bangin' coeds two at a time.
  18. They (TG & JW) came around at a time when an influx of troll-like idiots began taking TSW on a downhill ride. Can't say I blame them for leaving, but the board is further diminished by their departures.
  19. I think just about every TSW poster with more than half a brain knows that Luck won't declare for the 2011 draft, regardless of what Gaughn - or any other columnist with a deadline - opines on a slow news day.
  20. Oh, and one more thing...apparently you don't read, either... The Bills haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired following the 1996 season. Since then, nine players have started at least eight games, with Drew Bledsoe holding the job for the longest tenure, from 2002-04. Buffalo has already shuffled quarterbacks this year, with Ryan Fitzpatrick(notes) taking over the starting job in Week 3, and Trent Edwards(notes) being released a week later. Wilson spoke as the Bills enter their bye week, and a day after he watched his team blow a 10-point first-half lead in a 36-26 loss to Jacksonville. Buffalo is off to an 0-5 start for the fifth time in franchise history, and first since 1985. Buffalo has allowed 30 points in four straight games for the first time in team history. It’s a stretch during which the Bills have been outscored 146-77. And the team’s already in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for an 11th straight year. Wilson took full responsibility for the team’s decade-long woes, a stretch in which they’ve only had one winning season (a 9-7 finish in 2004) since 2000. The Bills are on their sixth coach (including Perry Fewell, who finished last season on an interim basis), and fifth general manager over that stretch. “The blame falls on me because I made those selections,” Wilson said. “And I don’t want to blame somebody else. I take the blame.” And Wilson is well aware of how fans have begun to criticize him for the team’s troubles. “Oh yeah,” he said. “I know that, and I don’t blame them.” (I don't have to speak for him - that's from the VERY widely circulated AP writer John Warwow's interview with the man himself - link) Do you have any idea at all what an annoying, incessant little whiner you are?
  21. Is that all you can come up with - throwing my own quips back at me? So besides being an incessant whiner and total idiot, I guess you're also devoid of any original thought? What's your next witty comeback gonna be - "Oh yeah?" or "I know you are, but what am I?" Let's see, you can't add/subtract, can't type, and can't seem to get it through your seemingly empty skull that if you want to blame Ralph Wilson for the Bills' periods of mediocrity - even total, all-out 'suckitude' - that's just fine with me; just make sure you also credit him for the good times. Be consistent in your assignation of credit as well as blame. That's all I ask. Moron.
  22. This board is almost as bad in a bye week as in the offseason (Should we draft a QB in April? Which one?)
