  1. I could be mistaken, but I think there's also an NFL-imposed 'franchise-relocation fee' on top of the purchase price and stadium costs (implemented to stop guys like Art Modell, Al Davis, etc., from moving a franchise for personal financial gain). Well hey, that only leaves him short about $1.5 billion - but what's a few shekels, eh? Worry not - the Bills will still be playing in Western New York long after Ralph Wilson Stadium lies in crumbled ruins.
  2. Speak for yourself - and only yourself - personally, I'd hate to have Parcells here. (You are aware that Nix can't MAKE a free agent sign a contract, yes? He's not Luca Brasi.)
  3. I agree with you completely, APV, and - on a slightly different tack - from a team perspective, I think the Bills & RW have generally shown loyalty to the players and staff that have shown loyalty back to the team. Generally. (That's one of the reasons that, unlike some, I have no big beef with the Chris Kelsay contract extension - I'm actually kind of pleased.)
  4. Laughter is the best medicine (The problem is, I think, that rabid Bills fans have been crying since 2000, with only a brief break in 2004 to stop and wipe our noses before bawling some more!)
  5. Completely agree on Luck & Ponder. (How many nat'l scouting reports ranked Jimmy Clausen the top QB - the 'second coming' - the most 'NFL-ready QB' of all the available choices? ) We won't have the chance to even consider Andrew Luck, as we won't have the #1 overall pick in 2012 - but Mallett will make you forget all about that. (As for the OP's thread title, hey - the sooner the Jaguars move to LA, the better. )
  6. You do realize that only one team could pick Bradford, right? Once St. Louis took him, Buddy Nix couldn't. You understand that, yes?
  7. If Mallett isn't available (Luck's staying at Stanford another year), then Nix will probably not take a QB in round one - and that's probably the right decision. Gabe Carimi (OT-Wisconsin) would probably be the best choice... Being touted as an early to middle first-round draft selection in the 2011 NFL Player Draft, NFLDraftScout.com suggested the University of Wisconsin Badgers senior left offensive tackle could be selected third overall in a May 2010 USA Today article. 2011 Scouting Report: Gabe Carimi, Wisconsin (Anyone who wants Jake Locker can have him in round 3.) If you think Nix wouldn't have taken Sam Bradford, your probably wrong there too. But once Bradford was gone, and Trent Williams and Russell Okung were gone, Nix went with the tried & proven 'best player available' philosophy. (Clausen & McCoy didn't excite Nix - rightly so - but he might have taken Tebow in round two if Denver didn't ejaculate too early over the guy! )
  8. Thank you. Excellent points. And the year before that (2009, when Nix was Nat'l Scout) he took Wood & Levitre - probably wanted Orapko too, but was over-ridden by Jauron (just speculation on my part, but I'm stickin' with it). I agree completely with the OP (even though he's nasty) - Nix most definitely has a plan, and isn't going to draft busts just to satisfy the fans. Once Williams and Okung were gone in 2010, Anthony Davis didn't excite Nix and he thought he had a once-in-a-lifetime type player available in C.J. Spiller. He's probably right. I tend to trust Nix and his draft record in San Diego more than the armchair GMs and wah-mbulance drivers on TSW. When Levy v.1 first got here, he won 2 games after taking over from Hank Bullough and the Bills went 4-11 for the season. The next season, 7-8. Then 12-4, then 9-7, then 4 consecutive Superbowls. Stop all the bitchin' and give Nix a year or two, ferchrissakes.
  9. Sometimes you can even get them after every round - I still think the Bills should have given Brandon Carter a look. We needed to toughen up and add depth to the o-line - dude's tough as nails, loves hitting, wants to keep playing after the final gun sounds, and rendered Ndamukong Suh a non-entity every time TT played Nebraska.
  10. Freakin' Canadiens, eh?
  11. One of the funniest features in the mag was 'Letters to Penthouse' - outrageously fictitious fantasies, along with the tone of anonymity they feigned to affect - something like Dear Penthouse, I'm a student at a large Ivy League school in rural upstate New York. One night, after a massive keg party, five of the girls from the floor upstairs sneaked into my room... Ah, the memories of those girls. RIP, Bob.
  12. Bill from NYC / John from Hemet (Astrobot as Asst. GM/Nat'l Scout/War Room General on draft day)
  13. Yeah that was yesterday's news, before the trade deadline passed and it didn't happen. (I mentioned it in passing yesterday - consensus was that it'd be a very stupid move by Buffalo.)
  14. I'll leave that for better football minds to determine, but (1) he's not going to be in this year's draft and (2) even if he was, Nix does not draft college QBs with one season of starting experience. (I presume you meant you saw him play against Arkansas - Newton plays for Auburn.)
  15. You've seen him play for Auburn several times, or for Blinn Junior College? I can't even figure out how many years of eligibility he's got left, what with Florida, a red-shirt season at Florida, Blinn Junior College, and now Auburn - but I think he's started a total of 7 games for a BCS team (he might have had a start at Florida, I'm not sure), so doubt that he's declaring for the 2011 draft. Looks like a solid prospect in 2012, though.
  16. Yeah I knew someone would bring Sanchez up - I should have just give the very succinct reply that I often use - "Yeah? Name two." Sanchez is that very very rare exception, and he was hardly ready to be a starter last season. I remember Pete Carroll being pretty pissed at Sanchez for declaring - Carroll & Sanchez both must have had a clue that the wheels were about to fall off at USC, as Sanchez came out early and Carroll resigned after the 2009 season.
  17. I would argue that starting NFL QBs with only 2 years of college playing experience are rare - and Buddy Nix won't draft one. (Not that in matters in Luck's situation, since he's staying in school.) And (JMO now) you are wrong about Jake Locker, not in that he's the "only senior" but in that he's "first round worthy" - Locker will still be available in the second round, probably even the third.
  18. James Harrison excused from practice Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 20, 2010 12:24 PM ET It looks like Steelers linebacker James Harrison is taking this retirement charade a little further... Link - PFT/NBC Sports What a child.
  19. Just a slight correction - he's playing his second year of college ball this season. (Don't want to 'split hairs', but he'll have played 2 years when this season is over.)
  20. Thanks for pointing all that out, Captain Obvious! BTW, drafts used to last as many 30 rounds in the 1950s, 20 in the '60's, 17 rounds in the 70's, and 12 rounds as recently as 1992. Jack Kemp was drafted in the 17th round. Johnny Unitas in the 9th. Daryle Lamonica in the 24th. This subject comes up every now and then, so I've done some looking up previously - you'd be surprised at some of the undrafted stars of the NFL, even with that many rounds. I know I was... Best undrafted NFL players Not saying the number off undrafted stars will ever exceed the number drafted ones but, with seven round drafts, we're going to see an increasing number of undrafted gems. (And, as Buddy Nix has stated, it's an 'inexpensive' way to fill out a roster, too!)
  21. Going on...er...'vacation' with the University of Oregon cheerleaders... link
  22. Assuming we draft a QB, Luck is staying at Stanford - that's a given - and Jared Lorenzen is coaching high school. I guess that leaves Mallett
  23. That was the first time I've seen Newton play - I'm guessing the same holds true for most, since he was at Blinn Junior College last season (junior college), and played in only a couple of games as Tebow's backup (at Florida) before getting himself in Urban Meyer's 'dog house'. He looks like an exciting player, but this is is first season as starting QB for a BCS team. Pretty impressive seven wins - let's see if he keeps it up against LSU this week and thru the rest of the season, ending against 'bama. With his red-shirt season at Florida and the year at Blinn Junior College, I can't even figure out the guy's eligibility status, but am guessing one season as a starting QB in 'the big leagues' is not enough experience to make him 'draftable' (if that's a word) in any case. If he goes undefeated and wins the Heisman, he's obviously a very hot NFL prospect in the 2012 draft.
  24. Sweet Jesus, another 'wahhhmbulance' thread... You should be HAPPY that Cordero Howard is moving up the starting RT. Cornell Green is, er...um...'not very good' is about as nicely as I can put it - and, btw, Jason Peters was an undrafted free agent too. So was Pat Williams, London Fletcher, etc. Lots of NFL greats were undrafted - give the guy a chance. GO BILLSSS!!!! 15 and 5 baby!!!!!
  25. I'm sure Corky knows you have to be out of high school 3 years to be eligible for the NFL draft - that would make the only RB possibilities on the ECCC roster... Zedric Joseph - 5'9" - 175 lbs. - Palm Beach Central, FL Bertrand Smith - 5'8" - 170 lbs. - Amherst, NY Nick Martone - 5'8" - 180 lbs. - Williamsville South, NY Brooks Estarfaa - 5'10" - 175 lbs. - Maryvale, NY Sean Mapp - 5'11" - 190 lbs. - Gorton, NY Don't know their '40 times' - also, we want to run this by Astro to see what the scouts say. Git 'er done, Buddy!
