Adrian Clayborn, DE Iowa - highlights
The Senator replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi easily handled Heyward and Clayborn in back-to-back games the last 2 weeks, and gets to go against Purdue "Superman' Ryan Kerrigan next game (Nov. 6th). Unless one of these DEs is the next Bruce Smith, I'm not sure we can write off the need for a premier LT. (Nothing against Demetrius Bell and the great progress he's made - just seems that an abundance of outstanding o-line talent and depth is a a good thing. JMO.) -
Never wanted Cutler to begin with, and don't know of too many who did. Come back and blow your horn on November 8th.
-
Yes, he does - but first he has to prove it against the Chiefs' and Bears' defenses, along with the 'lesser' defenses of the Lions and Bengals. Sorry, but that's just how it is, if the Bills are going to base - or alter - their 2011 draft strategy based on the recent emergence of Ryan Fitzpatrick as a premier NFL QB. And, I hope he does great and continues to play at the level we saw against the Ravens.
-
I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about Ryan Fitzpatrick. I always liked him, thought him a great QB to have on the roster in a backup role, and absolutely knew he is a much better QB than Fanning-Fan Edwards, but I'd still to see how Fitz does in the next few games before the ever-so-fickle TSW - changing with the wind once again based on a one-game performance - annoints him the Bills' savior. Same thing with the newly now-rejuvenated O-line - the general TSW consensus a week ago was that it 'sucked out loud', but now it is apparently no longer an 'area of need' in the upcoming draft according to TSW armchair GMs. That said... GO BILLSSS!!!! 14 and 6 baby!!!!!

Simplest explanation possible - that call came directly from Rocco in Las Vegas.

Prediction: Fitzpatrick Looks Bad Against Baltimore

Well after the Bills' fantastic showing and near-win yesterday, I have my doubts that they'll have the #1 over-all pick anyway. (I guess it's always a good idea to remember that so much can change between now and April, both from the perspective of where the Bills will be in the draft-order, as well as which draft prospects are going to rise or fall in perceived value - and how far.) Also, if you can coach a guy like Demetrius Bell - who never played organized football until his second year of college - into a Left Tackle, I think a guy like Carimi - a 5th year player and starting left tackle for four seasons at 'Offensive Line Factory' University - can be coached thru any perceived deficiencies. Vis-a-vis Carimi, here's how McShay has the OTs ranked (FWIW)... 1. C Rodney Hudson, Florida State 2. OT Nate Solder, Colorado 3. OT Orlando Franklin, Miami 4. OT Gabe Carimi, Wisconsin 5. OT Anthony Castonzo, Boston College link And, according to Kiper (again FWIW), Carimi's stock is rising... Getting the feel for how good an offensive tackle can be isn't an easy science. Just asking who got beat isn't enough. From how physical a guy is, to his footwork, to his arm length, to his ability to make adjustments -- the list can go on and on. But competition is key. A pair of new tackles join the Board this week after showing up big in big games. Fans in Wisconsin have been commenting for months about the absence of Gabe Carimi on this list, and while I liked Carimi enough to consistently keep him among the Top 5 players at his position, I really wanted to see him put together a more consistent stretch, and do it against big-time competition. After another solid week in a huge win, he gets the nod this week. link Carimi's performance two Saturdays ago against Ohio State DE Cameron Hayward, whom some legitimately opine that the Bills should draft, certainly caused an 'uptick' in Carimi's stock... Position: Left tackle Breakdown: When asked about Wisconsin’s offensive line, the first thing Ferentz said was “they’re gigantic.” Indeed, the Badgers’ five starters weigh an average of more than 320 pounds. The group is highlighted by left tackle Gabe Carimi, who manhandled All-Big Ten performer Cameron Heyward last week. The Ohio State defensive end never touched quarterback Scott Tolzien and only recorded one tackle for loss. The opponent will get a little tougher this week, though. Iowa features one of the most dynamic defensive lines in the country, starting with Clayborn, who will line up against Carimi. And Gabe's stock has to have gone up even further after back-to-back weeks going up against Heyward and Iowa's Adrian Clayborn... An NFL-sized challenge for Hawkeyes’ Clayborn Gabe Carimi vs Adrian Clayborn Next week, it’s Purdue’s Ryan Kerrigan - those would be 3 of the top-ranked DEs Carimi faced, in 3 consecutive weeks. If he shines against Kerrigan, The Bills just might need to finish very high in the draft order to have a shot at Carimi.

Gabe looked great against Iowa yesterday - at least in the first half, which is all I saw. (I can only watch so much college ball, unless someone starts paying me to do it! ) Now let's say the wheels fall completely off this season, and the Bills have the #1 overall pick - do you still use it on Carimi? I guess I'd have to see how high he actually does rise, but he's moving up fast. -
I got this draft thing covered, Bill... Rounds 1/2 - Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas/Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin (I don't care about the order - and if Buddy needs to sacrifice the next Danny Batten and/or Kyle Calloway - along with our high 2nd-round pick - to trade back into the first and grab both Mallet AND Carimi, I'm OK with that.) Round 3 -- Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada Round 4a - Greg Romeus, DE, Pitt Round 4b - Owen Marecic, FB/ILB, Stanford I'll stop there - if Buddy Nix gets those 5, he can feel free to play around with rounds 5-7 - or skip them entirely, head to the bar, and celebrate an excellent draft with a nice bourbon & branch water.
-
Nothing earth-shattering there - several knowledgeable TSW posters - and me - have been calling for Carimi since before the season started (IOW, before it became obvious that the Bills would tank so badly and might just have a shot at a 'franchise QB' in the 2011 draft). Carimi's a stud - best LEFT tackle available - will be better than Oher, IMHO. Right now, I'd say the Bills should do what it takes to put themselves in position to draft both Carimi AND Ryan Mallett. But April's a long way off, and a lot can change between now and the draft.

About 3 months ago I started talking-up Carimi as our 1st-round pick and - waddaya know - a slew of TSW armchair GMs informed me that I had '10 screws loose' to take Carimi in the 1st, as he projects as an RT and should easily be available in the 2nd round. Aren't opinions just the craziest things???!!! I've long thought that Carimi is the best LEFT tackle available, and that the Bills would be idiots to let him slip to someone else like. So here's my solution: as stated, I don't care about rounds 5-7 - so long as we get the players I mentioned, Buddy can use those 5-7 round picks to trade back into the first for a shot as both Carimi AND Mallett. (I'm willing to eschew the next Danny Batten AND Kyle Calloway to get back into the first round - package our 6th and/or 7th with our very high 2nd for another 1st-round pick.) I don't care which order they come - I'm not a chest-thumper, I have no need to be exactly right. But if we got those 5, that would be a great draft. (Just my opinion!) GO BILLSSS!!!! REVERSE THE CURSE!!!!! -

OK, I'll play - Round 1 -- Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas Round 2 -- Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin Round 3 -- Dontay Mach, OLB, Nevada Round 4a - Greg Romeus, DE, Pitt Round 4b - Owen Marecic, FB/ILB, Stanford I'll stop there - if Buddy Nix gets those 5, he can feel free to play around in rounds 5-7 - or skip them entirely, head to the bar, and celebrate an excellent draft with a nice bourbon & branch water. (This assumes that the Bills will be drafting high, possibly first, in the order each round - anything could happen between now and season's end to change that, like Brohm replacing Fitz and winning 8 games. ) -

Bills situation beyond hope

I'd say, "Reverse the numbers and you'll be right." -
Shades of Jason Peters...lazy, unmotivated, attitude problems...but still wants a ton of money

I was there as well! 'The Dean'- in all his magnanimity - was able to commandeer the entire private box of KRON-TV for his own personal use that that day, and I was fortunate enough to be one of his guests. What an exciting game to watch, when every time a team gets the ball they either score or the other team takes it away! It was well into Q3 - if I recall - before I realized, 'Hey, no one's punted the entire game!' Man, those were the days... (And, thank God, the Bills won! )

Do you seriously think Carolina would pick a QB in round one, when they took Jimmy Clausen in the last draft - the 'most NFL-ready QB to come out of the college ranks in years' according to last year's pundits and at least half the armchair GMs on TSW?
