The Bills W-L for the rest of the season
The Senator replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd celebrate the improvement over 2009, and a 'killer-successful' 7-1 second half of this season. -
Roll Call - Who would have preferred to lose?

Think... Gabe Carimi Dontay Moch Both should be there - in the middle of rounds 1 & 2, respectively - when the Bills pick. Just WIN, baby!!! -

A Few Thoughts About The Game
The Senator replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great comments, Bill, as always. Nothing like a Bills win on Sunday, to make everyone feel good on Monday - hopefully quell some of the rampant (but understandable) board negativity as well. Here's something else to consider... Link - Alex Henery -

Roll Call - Who would have preferred to lose?

Good list - hope you don't mind that I added my 2-cents on each of your points... ✔ 1. The offensive line - This team has already started to put the talent in place on the O line. This affords the team the ability to address other positions come draft day, impact positions. (Getting someone like Gabe Carimi on draft day could be the final piece of the OL puzzle.) ✔ 2. Wide Receivers - With the emergence of Johnson this teams WR corp is a decent group. (Nothing to add there.) 3. Tight End - Still waiting for the Pete Metzellars type of Tight End. The draft can address this. (Wish we'd seen more from Shawn Nelson - and maybe we will - I'd hate to have to wait until 2016 when Glen Gronkowski comes out of Kansas State!) ✔ 4. Running Back - Spiller is ok, Jackson is decent as well. Are they the answer, I hope Spiller is, since it was a 9th overall pick. (I agree - we're good at RB - though Stanford's 2-way star FB/ILB/ST Owen Marecic would be a nice addition.) ✔ 5. Quarterback - Is Fitz the one? He can fill the role for the next couple of seasons. This gives us a longer time frame to evaluate that question. (Fitz is a pleasant surprise, and still a young QB who will likely get even better. Then there's the completely unknown ' Brohm-factor '. And, there's always gonna be another stud QB who's even better than the last one everyone wanted to draft - Oregon's Darron Thomas comes to mind, but there are others. If Fitz keeps 'lighting it up', we shouldn't even have to worry about QB until around 2015/2016, when Jim Kelly's nephew, Chad Kelly, comes out!) 6. The Defense - DE and LB need to be addressed immediately in my opinion. These next 2 drafts 1st and 2nd rounders should address this. We need to get better on defense and by a large margin yet. (We definitely need better pass ruch and run containment - maybe Dontay Moch in round 2, Greg Romeus - high risk gamble with huge upside if he comes back from ACL injury - in round 6 , Marecic and add'l LB help in mid-rounds, free agency, and more game experience for the current squad will be enough.) So the unchecked 2 areas are the ones where I see really glaring needs: TE (and Nelson may still emerge as a contributor) and, obviously, defense. I think Buddy and Chan can fix that in one off-season. I really do. Just win, baby!!! -

The nice thing about hitting 'rock bottom' is that things bounce off of it hard and fast - like the Bills just did. -
Bills will not pick in the top 5
The Senator replied to RyanW2279's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We jumped off to an early lead against NE* back in September and had a shot at beating them* then. (We had 'em* beat last season, until McKelvin's last-minute fumble.) The Jets barely squeaked one out against 4-6 Houston yesterday, and Pittsburgh's coming into our house on Thanksgiving weekend - Chan's gonna want to beat his old team, and the players are gonna want that for him. I'd say the Bills could very well finish 8-8 and end up with a mid-round draft position. (Maybe Gabe Carimi in round 1, and Dontay Moch in round 2 ???) -

The Bills might very well not even be drafting in the top 10. Try to focus on how great is is to see the Bills win games, and worry about the draft after the season's over -
I must still be asleep, 'cause I don't remember mentioning Mallett at all. (But since you did, Mallett also might not declare for this draft - there's certainly no guarantee that he will. Right now, just win. Every game. Deal with the draft in April.)

After 2 straight Ws what are you rooting for?
The Senator replied to mikegamms's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen brother! -
No no no, you just don't get it. We need to lose every game so we can draft a 21-year-old kid who's played 2 seasons in the PAC 10. He'll fix everything. (Bills fans are a fickle bunch - so hopefully a 2-game win streak will provide at least a brief break from 'Luck-mania'.)

Is Everybody Happy With Gailey?

Kelsay had a fine game yesterday - and has actually been playing well. (Of course, that's JMO - I'm about the only one that didn't wig out when his contract was extended.) -

I would think he'd be available in the late rounds, should he declare for this draft, but would he still need the crutches to run his routes? Sounds like his hamstring is hurt pretty bad... Injured tight end focused on getting back on feet, not thinking NFL -

I'm still pissed at Gailey for not letting me get Trent's autograph. -
I'll say it again: this Bills team is but a few mistakes and a few bad breaks from being 5-5 - or much better - right now, with the current roster. Think about it - the last2 consecutive wins were preceded by 3 consecutive 3-point losses, any of which could have easily gone our way (OT losses and losses from missed FGs, PATs, 2-pt conversions, etc.) The NE* and Jacksonville games were also winnable - we squandered early leads. I hang the loss to Miami in the season opener on Edwards (and Gailey for starting him) and his reluctance/refusal to even try to throw down-field, trailing by 3 points in the final few minutes. (We can only wonder how the season might have gone if only Fitz was QB from the start, but I guess Gailey had to see, for himself, the talentless cancer that was Trent Edwards.) The only two games I consider blow-outs where we were done early on were the one-sided losses to GB and NJ. This current Bills team is coming together under a new head coach, is learning how to fight back and how to win instead of how to lose, and enjoying it (as are we fans). Root for that to continue, not for losses and a chance to roll the dice in drafting a young, as-yet unproven college QB in the NFL draft. Let this young Bills team learn how to win, how to play with sone swagger, how to look forward to Sundays. Winning breeds more winning. Losers root for losses. How great did yesterday feel? How crappy would it have felt if we came all the way back, then still lost in the final moments? Win as often as possible. Draft in April. Draft the best players available when our turn comes, whenever that happens to be. But win now.

I love it!!! Gotta think Chan wants to beat his old team, gotta think the Bills players want that for him as well. The Bills will be getting a lot of attention after this weekend's amazing comeback win on the road. Lots of Bills fans coming home this weekend too. No one comes into our house and walks out with a win on this Thanksgiving weekend... GO BILLSSS!!!! -

When you look back, our only blowout losses were to GB & NJ. I still hang the Miami loss on Trent Fanning's refusal to throw down-field in the 4th quarter, and we squandered early leads against NE* & Jacksonville - but all 3 of those games were very winnable. Our 2-game win streak was preceded by 3 consecutive 3-point losses, heart-breakers at that - 2 in overtime, and the Bears loss by virtue of a missed Bills PAT and 2-pt conversion. So while some ersatz-fans wax on ad nauseum about the Bills 'total suckitude' and a desire to 'lose-out' in hopes of finding salvation in April's draft, I just want to point out that our Bills are but a few mistakes and bad breaks away from a much different W-L record; the current 2-8 could easily have been 5-5 - or better - and we'd still in the playoff hunt with the roster we have now. It looks like the team is just now starting to out it all together - just now figuring out how to win, instead of how to lose, and enjoying it. This is the busiest travel week of the year - lots of displaced WNYers returning home to visit - I say we will beat Pittsburgh at RWS this Sunday. No one comes into our house on Thanksgiving weekend, and walks out with a win. Let the draft chips fall where they may, and let Buddy deal with that in April. -
