Why? Last time I checked, NBC didn't make Luke host of Meet the Press - they gave him a 'cub reporter' role on MSNBC, their cable subsidiary. For all anyone knows, this may very well be one of the MANY 'other things' he does for the next ten or twenty years, on a path to pursuing something totally aside from TV journalism. (And - if he does happen to choose to remain in journalism his entire career - does it matter how he got his start if, over time, he develops into one of the best in the business?) TR also knew the profound truth in the saying... "To build a school on Kenmore Avenue, is to build no school at all" (...though he would never actually come right out and say it! ) AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM, TIM!!!!

Ralph Wilson Stadium to be Smoke Free

Enjoy it, John! Because you won't be able to when, if lung and/or throat cancer doesn't strike first, emphysema finally sets in and, like my older brother, you're on an oxygen tank 24/7 at the rate of 4 liters/minute, on your way to eventually struggling for your final breaths as your grieving loved ones gaze down on you through the oxygen tent surrounding your deathbed! (That's not an admonition, JW, but rather a concerned and caring warning - I also enjoyed the stupid habit for years 'til I finally gave it up for good, hopefully, this past February - only after witnessing my brother continue to smoke and decline after a laryngectomy to slow his stage 4 throat cancer.) . -

Apparently the Buffalo School District did not get that memo... Buffalo's embattled schools took another hit Tuesday, as the system's already low high school graduation rate dipped almost 6 percentage points last June to below 50 percent...Across the state, the overall graduation rate improved slightly, with 73.4 percent of the students who started ninth grade in 2006 graduating by last June, up from 71.8 percent in 2009. Buffalo enjoyed no such success. Its graduation rate dropped from 53.1 percent in 2009 to 47.4 percent last June. link -

Myself, I avoid it whenever possible. At the supermarket, I opt for the self-serve checkout line. I'll never enter a bank if I can accomplish my transaction online or at an ATM. I pay at the pump. (I find most 'behind-the-counter' folks annoying anyway - either they're middle-to-older-aged folks who don't know what they're doing, or disinterested Gen Y/Gen Z types who would just-as-soon eschew human interaction themselves, preferring instead to interact with their e-toys and i-toys.) -
Pryor's Attorney confirms no more The Ohio State
The Senator replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So the inevitable question... Assuming there'll be a supplemental draft, would you give up a 7th-round pick in April 2012 to put in a 7th-round bid for Pryor in this year's supplemental draft? (I'm thinking 'maybe' - - we seem to bat around .500 in round 7 anyway; for every Demetrius Bell there's a C.J. Ah You...for every Steve Johnson, a Kyle Calloway) -

Whew! I'm safe - scored a 6/6. (I always take the test, if it's included, just to make sure I'm not as dumb as the kids included in the sample.) In other encouraging news, Buffalo's own 4-year H.S. graduation rate dropped another 6 points, and now stands at 47.4%... Link - Graduation rate drops for Buffalo high schools -

Oops - my bad. Thought this thread was a tribute to the late Tim Russert - one the biggest, most shameless Bills fans ever; a class act, top journalist, and tireless Buffalo booster. Maybe the mods should close it down before it dissolves into a senseless rant about nepotism or presidential policy.

Tiger Woods career in serious jeopardy?
The Senator replied to truth on hold's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Judging from the $60M home/training facility he just built in Jupiter, FL - complete with lap pool, track, gym, and 4-hole course designed to hone his short game - I'd have to agree that Tiger's not getting ready to join the Seniors Tour any time soon... If you're interested, you can check out some of Ken's work... here and... here Personally, until I saw some of Ken's posts and other work that piqued my own interest, I never knew Buffalo AND Rochester NFL teams back in the 1920s and, in 1949, the AAFC Bills team was almost absorbed into the current NFL along with the old Cleveland Browns, the SF 49ers, and old Baltimore Colts (now the new Cleveland Browns). It's fascinating stuff - particularly the original team locations and over-the-decades relocations, dissolutions, and reincarnations part - for some of us anyway. -
And what happened between you and Karen, after Hef introduced you two? I'd have to agree - Hef's a fascintating guy, and I got nothing against him. Nothing at all. Quite an empire he's built, for a guy that quit Esquire over being denied a $5 raise! Bio - Hugh Hefner (BTW - Ms. Witter was also one of my favorites ) .

You need to quit (I did, Feb 10th). It's only a matter of time before the ban extends to the parking lots, anyway. -

I imagine the list gets shorter with every passing year, but the stories must be great to hear. (I was hoping that old logo would somehow re-appear this season, in the new uniforms or some other form of marketing, but I guess it's truly a thing of the past.) -
I've held a number of 'virtual office' positions - at times you miss the social interaction of an office environment, but nothing beats being able to wake up, scratch yourself, wipe the sleep from your eyes, and instantly be 'at the office' - still in boxer-shorts, mattress-head and all. The toughest thing is disciplining yourself to actually keep working non-stop during 'working hours', and not abuse your freedom allowing yourself to to run errands, goof-off, etc. Some peers of mine need a work-space completely separate from their living space (a basement office or converted empty bedroom), while others can discipline themselves well-enough to take their lap-top and wireless phone on the patio or poolside. Some, at least in the beginning, would even continue to dress in suit & tie just to make themselves feel as though they were actually 'at work'. Fortunately, I did not suffer that adjustment at all, easily adjusting to and enjoying working in shorts, swim trunks, naked, whatever (save for the occasional video con-call). Of course, it helps that I'm a confirmed bachelor with no wife, kids, or any home distractions - other than a large-screen TV, a well-stocked bar, and a love of golf! .
