I lived in Maryland in 1983 You put Marino ahead of Jim Kelly?
-
Well now there's his first big problem - I never liked the white John Elway. Don't know anything about RG3 - Andy Luck, Gabe Blabbert, Fig Newton, Fake Locker, Darron Thomas, et al stole all the attention last season, and this season it's Matt Barkley, Kellen Moore, Brandon Weeden, Landry Jones, and Thomas and Luck again. From what I've read, there may be questions about Griffin's play-calling ability and size... link I know - 6'2"/220 is more than big enough, but lately teams are going for the 6'4" or taller QBs that can see over the 6'8" linemen. Also, since he's a red-shirt junior who sat out most of 2009 with a knee injury, I wonder if he might decide to stay out of this year's QB-rich draft and play another year of college ball. Seems a bit of a reach to compare him to Luck. Sounds like an interesting kid to watch, though - and, even though the Big 12 is no fun w/out Mike Leach, I'll certainly keep an eye on his stats and try to catch a few Baylor games. (And I don't care if he's black, white, green, or purple.)

You mean still available, even after the Ravens signed Bryant McKinnie, NE* signed Brian Waters, and several other experienced and serviceable o-linemen went by the wayside? Nick Kaczur. Mario Henderson. Max Starks. Flozell Adams. Mark Tauscher. Leonard Davis. Shawn Andrews. Vince Manuwai. And others.

Dockery? Why can't the Bills get players like that?
-
And slightly to way below the guy we just cut, Ed Wang. WTF, Buddy?

Good thing we're not signing any of those aging 3X or 5X pro bowl offensive linemen that no one wants - I'd much rather have the young, inexperienced, unproven linemen that no one wants.

Jacksonville to release Garrard

I imagine it means Gabbert is ahead of the curve, and will be starting by week 4 or sooner. (And he's gonna be a great QB in a year or two.) -
Pretty ugly. Can't imaging Mike Leach would have allowed those uniforms (or that flag).

First, he killed them. The little show and the fire-water came later. It is difficult to get a true sense of how Cody felt about Native Americans by simply reviewing the biographical facts of his life. As a boy in Kansas, for instance, he boasted great friendships with young braves from the nearby Kickapoo Indian tribe, even learning to speak their language. But he also claimed to have killed an Indian...at the age of eleven. The defeat of Custer and his Cavalry at Little Big Horn on June 25 retrieved the Indian Wars from back-page news and brought them to the headlines. In the wake of public shock and outrage over this defeat, Cody made real the images enacted in his Wild West Show when the Fifth Cavalry avenged Custer's defeat in a Cheyenne skirmish at Warbonnet Creek, Nebraska on July 17. Cody confronted Cheyenne leader Yellow Hand, shot and scalped him, and as the story goes, raised the scalp of the dead warrior to the charging Fifth Cavalry while declaring "First scalp for Custer!" Whether any gesture of victory and revenge occurred is uncertain, but the killing of Yellow Hand was genuine.

Can you say "tackle-eligible"? Buffalo Bills' offensive tackle, Mitch Frerotte made a name for himself in 1992 by scoring 3 times in one season (twice on tackle-eligible plays), the NFL single season record for an offensive lineman. Chan Gailey...genius... GO BILLSSS!!!! 19 and 0 baby!!!!!

I am jealous. I hear they got crazy little women there.

Along those lines, Ruvell Martin is about the same size as Nelson... "It surprised me how often they would go four wide receivers and have that fourth wideout do some different things that the tight end might do in other offenses that I've been in," Martin said. He might take a train, might take a plane - but if he has to walk, he's gonna get there just the same...

Offensive Linemen from the Past
The Senator replied to BillyBaroo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, serendipity strikes! I just came across his name earlier today while looking up the rules on 'tackle-eligible' - apparently Frerotte holds the record for TDs in a season (3) by an offensive lineman... Buffalo Bills' offensive tackle, Mitch Frerotte made a name for himself in 1992 by scoring 3 times in one season (twice on tackle-eligible plays), the best single season ever for an offensive lineman. (link) I did not know about the motorcycle incident... He was a well-known Harley-Davidson enthusiast, who once threatened ESPN's Joe Theismann with bodily harm after he mounted Frerotte's motorcycle without permission. Now I like him even more! -
I was thinking along the same lines of prior Chan Gailey decisions. ("Oh, and if anyone want's to know who our starting QB is, it's Trent.") Ruvell Martin has better size and surer hands, and will surely be our #2 WR by the 9/25 NE* game.

And Nix has some history drafting freakish large, athletic guys (Jamie Nails)... Offensive lineman Jamie Nails packed 354 pounds on his 6-6 frame when the Bills drafted him in 1997. But he weighed 387 at the combine following his senior year at Florida A&M. The Bills wanted him to report to camp at 340. Nix, who was the Bills' Southeast scout at the time, said of Nails' weight loss: "It's kinda like throwing a lawn chair off the Titanic. It don't take much to lose 40 or 50 pounds when you're that big." It is believed Nails topped the 400-pound mark in college, but never pushed 450 like Jasper did. Nails also wasn't the athlete Jasper is. "This is an amazing kid, now," Nix said. "He vertical jumps 32 inches and he long jumps like 9-5 and he dunks a basketball with both hands. His body fat is not real high. He's an exceptional athlete. We would've signed him as a free agent so we just drafted him and didn't have to go after him, and we're going to see if he can play." Link - Jasper's a heavy-duty investment

With Gailey's proclivity for trick plays and gadget players, this might be a fun offense to watch this year... "It's 1st-and-goal for the Bills at the 1-yard line, and #69 has just reported in as a tackle-eligible at the fullback position..."
