If Barkley is so good, why would the season be lost? He seemed to play better than Allen in the one game we saw him play against the Jets last year when Allen was out. If Allen has to miss a game or two, Barkley can step in and play at an NFL level. And, if that happens, it would be stupid NOT to have a back-up who’s been on the roster all season - unless you think it would be smarter, at mid-season, to try to talk Anderson out of retirement, or bring in another QB who doesn’t the the playbook or the players. .

And then 2016 happens, Tyrod Taylor gets hurt, E.J. Manuel gets benched, and we need rookie Cardale Jones to come in and finish the game. Or last year, when we opted to trade A.J. McCarron and go with just Peterman and Allen. Then Peterman sucked in game one, Allen became the starter, and we had to scramble to find a third QB - Derek Anderson - to back up Allen. Then Allen got hurt, Peterman still sucked, and we had to sign Barkley. It makes sense to carry 3 QBs. It’s the smart thing to do. It’s what the Bills will do. Allen, Barkley, Jackson - there’s your depth chart. .

Cardale was on the active roster as 3rd string behind EJ and Tyrod, but he won a national title wasn’t an UDFA. He played in one game. I think Tyree will also be on the active roster as 3rd string. Who knows? Kid could be the next Kurt Warner, or Warren Moon! .

Have to disagree - it was an automatic major if you drew blood. That’s why some guys were so good at biting thru their lip (Ray Bourque comes to mind). Obviously, you can score more goals in major than a double-minor, and some guys bleed more easily, maybe making the current rule more fair. .

Guess I missed that rule change - back in the ‘70’s, 80’s, even the 90’s I think, a high stick that drew blood was always a 5-minute major. .

I thought all you had to do, to turn a 2-minute minor into a 5- minute major, was bite your lip hard enough to draw blood. Guess no one does that anymore. Yesteryear’s players were a different breed. .

Hole-in-one, 17th hole (short par 3), at Foxtail (South Course), Rohnert Park, CA (1994) - very lucky shot. Funniest shot - didn’t happen to me, but another guy in my foursome - was on the 5th hole at Lincoln Park (San Francisco), another par 3, longer but downhill. My buddy grabs too much club, sends his tee-shot flying over the green, over the back-stop into the parking lot, and we hear glass shatter. We drive the cart over, take a look - his ball went thru the driver’s window of someone’s car and was sitting on the passenger seat.
