Which is why NE* drafted him, and why he won't 'become available' - Mallett is their* franchise QB after Brady* retires next season. The best the Bills can hope for now is to draft Arizona's Nick Foles (another 'Mallett-type' in terms of sheer size and arm strength, but without the character/intellect/substance 'issues') in round 6 or 7, and develop him to take the reins after Fitz starts to show signs of age in 3-4 years... BTW, Fitz was neck & neck for top QB rating in the league the first few weeks - back when our O-line and WR corps were both still intact...and before he cracked 3 ribs. Just sayin'. The Bills made their move to obtain a HoF QB late last season when they finally went after Graham Harrell. Unfortunately it took the Bills 3 years too long to finally come out of that coma, and Green Bay wasn't about to cut him loose.

Makes ya think a little more about the whole 'draft DeCastro' thing, I would hope, rather than just dismissing the idea outright. Yes? No?

No, I want them both to continue starting at guard, and for Levitre be available to play LT behind Hariston & Bell in emergency should both Hairston and Bell both become injured, and for Urbik to be moved around as well. Just like I posted. Just like Levitre and Urbik did last season when Hairston, Bell, and Eric Wood were all injured at the same time. And that would make adding depth at the guard position much more crucial than anyone apparently cares to admit at this time. Plus there is the obvious inevitability (obvious to me at least) that, having all been drafted in 2009, Urbik-Levitre-Wood will not be here together forever. We are bound to lose one or more of them in the next two or three years, either to trade, free agency, injury, etc., or simply thru attrition as the Bills draft even better players...like David DeCastro. (Unless, of course, you see no need to continually improve and add depth at every position, or plan for the future - or are perfectly happy with Michael Jasper as your future starting guard.) .

Just my humble opinion here, but to me it's looking more like Buddy's plan at LT is to re-sign Bell, develop Hairston, and have Levitre/Urbik as depth in an injury/disaster situation. That actually would then make drafting another guard in round one a sensible (though not a terribly popular) move. However, if Buddy does draft a guard in round one, you can bet it's not gonna be Glenn - the 2ndbest ranked guard and a round-2 pick on most boards. It'd be Stanford's David DeCastro - big, mean, smart, athletic, and equally strong in both run-blocking and pass-protection...and probably the most highly rated interior offensive lineman in the draft in at least a decade...a guy who would be equally effective maintaining the pocket for Fitz or busting open huge holes for Jackson/Spiller...
