This post is absolutely laughable… we have no idea how Ben Johnson would be as HC.  At one time Adam Gase was considered “the best young offensive mind.”

    😂

So every time a team takes a calculated risk on a first-time head coach, it's absolutely laughable?

It's more "absolutely laughable" to stick with a guy who is wasting the prime of the best QB you've ever had, especially when you're banking on him becoming the first coach in NFL history to win his first Super Bowl after 5 years with the same quarterback.

  2. If my name were Terry Pegula, this is what I would do this offseason:

    Fire Sean McDermott

    Keep Brandon Beane

Hire Ben Johnson (you now have arguably the best young offensive mind in the league for Josh Allen's prime and you'll never have to worry about losing your offensive coordinator)

Then, if my name were Brandon Beane, this is what I would do:

Let go (via cut or trade) Von Miller, Tre'Davious White, and Jordan Poyer, taking all the bad cap medicine necessary (yes, I know it's a lot, but stick with me); possibly add Dawson Knox to this list if he's not excited about a backup role

Re-sign A.J. Epenesa and DaQuan Jones; let every other major free agent go, including Gabe Davis and Micah Hyde

Leverage your 10+ picks (probably even more after trades) to maneuver and get the best WR available, then heavily prioritize defensive line and offensive line picks

Fill in the gaps at non-premium positions in free agency.

Offense built around Allen, a dominant line, Cook, Diggs, Kincaid, and the future WR1 you drafted.

Defense built around a dominant line, Milano and Bernard, and a young secondary.

Bills are suddenly a young team but still scoring a lot of points and the future is looking exceptionally bright.

With the old guard gone, you can grow with your young team. You'll probably even make the playoffs in year 1. Allen is going to be reinvigorated.

Who knows, it might even go as well as it did for the Chiefs last year when they went with a youth movement.

I'm willing to bet my plan is better than what they will get by keeping McDermott.

Reminder: Sean McDermott traded Patrick Mahomes to the Chiefs before Brandon Beane got here.

    Other reminders:

Every coach/QB combo in NFL history that has won a Super Bowl has done so within their first 5 years together. McDermott and Allen are in year 6 and things seem to be falling apart. It seems that things have grown stale and a change is needed.

No player has ever won the Super Bowl with three different teams (Von Miller), unless you count Matt Millen who was inactive for his win with the Redskins.

  3. Von Miller is done. He needs to be let go after the season; we need to take the medicine in terms of the cap charge.

Several other major changes need to happen. This organization should move forward with Beane and Allen and otherwise reset.

  4. Sean, you just lost to the least talented team in the NFL, a team that lost at home to the New Orleans Saints 34-0. Why should you continue to be the coach of this team?

They're going to try to get away with the "I'm proud of how we fought" crap. The problem is they never should have been in a position to have to do that.

  5. This great player went to high school at MY local high school, Fort Hill High School in extreme Western Maryland. He's a celebrity in this small town of Cumberland. When the Bills signed him, multiple strangers made comments to me the next time I went out. I can throw rocks at his family home (and almost did when they were flying a Jets flag for years, haha!).

This team under Beane and McDermott has had tremendous success.  With Milano and White on IR no shame in losing to Mahomes, Tua, Burrow, or whoever knocks us out of the playoffs.  People seem to forget the misery under Donahoe,  Levy, Whaley, Nix, and Brandon and coaching stiffs Williams, Mularkey, Gailey, Jauron and Ryan.  Geez!!!!!   :wallbash:

    We didn't have Allen then.

Easy to say if you were lucky enough to never have to struggle with weight issues. Not every overweight person is a product of overeating and lack of exercise. Everyone's body is different. People who have been thin/fit their whole lives (without having to try) have no idea what it is like, so maybe you should be a little less judgmental.

I was overweight my entire life (still am, actually, but not grossly) and it wasn't until my early thirties that I learned to stop blaming my genetics. So while it does take a ton of effort for me to get in and remain in shape and I agree that many have no idea what it's like, the fact is that I was being lazy by choosing not to put in the work. You can choose to be a victim or a winner.

I agree with you, not just sports but any venue, screaming and yelling at someone in public does not help performance

I think McDermott is probably very intense, and a player knows when he's "on the carpet" but he doesn't need to scream in public to convey that impression.

Come to think of it, even just the other day McDermott made the comment that screaming at someone probably isn't conducive to a good work environment.

  9. This seems like much more than difference of opinion in terms of coaching philosophy.

I recall after 2020 it seemed like McDermott was annoyed that Daboll didn't get a head coaching job. It raised a red flag for me at that time. It seemed like he was ready to move on.

Other thoughts that come to mind...

Perhaps Daboll was angry with McDermott over 13 seconds. Someone on X said there were rumors that Daboll let McDermott have it afterwards, which would make sense given that Daboll had just overseen a legendary offensive performance and then McDermott ruined it, robbing Daboll of the chance to win a Super Bowl for his hometown team and for Josh on his way out.

Someone else suggested that Daboll made a power play for the head coaching job in Buffalo after 13 seconds.

Yet another suggested that McDermott is jealous of the love that players clearly have for Daboll, which they absolutely do not have for McDermott.

Something else I thought of is that this might have something to do with the fight to secure Dorsey's services. As I recall, both McDermott and Daboll wanted him.

There could be a lot of layers to this onion.

Yesterday, McDermott said that he respects Daboll "as a coach," and there was something there to suggest that he was subtly saying that is the only manner in which he respects him.
