10/14/24 Game 6 Bills at (NJ) Jets MNF 1st Half Game thread
DCofNC replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
makes perfect sense doesn’t it? -
Wishful thinking unfortunately. It will just be the 17th new OC for JA to work with and another year of a nicer purgatory. This team with a healthy Allen, will always be good enough to not draft high and never good enough to win it all. Allen will continue to make mediocre look ok and good look great until he can’t anymore. I think the beating is already starting to take a toll, we are watching the last of the window we had close and there’s not another one coming (with McClappy at the helm).

Point 1 yes there is a relationship, but Lawrence has him as a #3 where he belongs and still sucks, so I’m going w this one being on Lawrence and the Jags in general

Further confirming you can’t take off the Bills colored glasses. Miller is nothing more than an average speed rusher at this point. His only sacks come on coverage or others forcing the QB into his lap. He’s no longer getting his own. He’s the epitome of this DL, solid player, waiting for somebody else to generate pressure so they can get a tackle. It’s the exact reason this team signed him in the first place, nobody, including his broken down body can get home on their own. Flat out, Miller is a has been. He WAS great. Since the injury, he’s been awful for a season and worked his way back to being pretty good. The past is the past, he’s an old man that relied on elite explosion, which just isn’t there any more. If you love watching a guy run around the corner to 3 yards behind a QB, he’s your boy.
-
One that caused him to panic about his missing third round pick so he wouldn’t go up and get an affordable WR bc Sean need another rotational DT.
-
True, BUT if he’s not making much contribution, you have to eat dead cap at some point or you are wasting cap on him until the bitter end. Sometimes you have to take your medicine. Right now, he’s pretty much a non-factor. You play your young guys, hope they develop to a better replacement and spend that extra money improving the team. Should be a net gain of ~7M when all is said and done.

Five Weeks in, Las Vegas thinks everything AFC is already clear
DCofNC replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
They aren’t moving on from Oliver, the contract prohibits that for at least another year, realistically 2. They are behind in many positions, but their idiotic use of cap space on the line is their own doing. He was drafted 5 spots ahead of us, so I’d say roughly 23rd? 🙄 -

He fell well within reach to go get him. The Bills have traded up to draft Elam, Kincaid and multiple other later round guys, but THIS is the one case you can’t understand? -

I actually think the odds are pretty spot on, it’s pretty basic math to determine the chances of a lot of these teams digging themselves out of a hole and others having to completely collapse for things to be much different. Could it happen? Sure. But if you come back and look at this picture at the EOY, I bet Vegas wins. The AFC has kind of fallen apart haha. The Bills are “retooling” (or the failure to add talent where it matters is catching up, your choice of words), Steelers still have no O, Browns are Browning, Bengals had to pay their QB, Tua did Tua, Jets gambled on a 40 yr old, and all the other shots at QB missed the mark. You’re left with the Chiefs, Texans, Ravens and maybe the Josh Allen’s having a shot to win it. -

Oh McD has to be licking his chops, another rotational 3 tech to put behind Ed in the 1st round!? Sign him UP! -
Tyler Lockett could fix this offense
DCofNC replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall
Every week that goes by, Cooper’s value is lower in the trade market. He’s only signed through this year and very few teams have the ability to do much with an extension at this point in the year, especially if they are real contenders; who SHOULD, be the only ones interested in an aging WR who’s game is predicated on speed. All this is to say, I think his value caps out at a late 4th round pick, more realistically a 5th. It’s a pure “all in” risk move. Personally, I think the Bills should be on it, he’s really the best option with his super low salary this year and a get out of jail free card on the other side. Every other guy comes with a restructure to fit this year and a cap hit in future years because of it. -
Dawson Knox: 3 receptions in 5 games. $8.5M salary.
DCofNC replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have never seen any team come right out and tell you their plans, but Dorsey ran 12 quite a bit. They still have the personnel for it, but it’s like Brady doesn’t know it. It’s criminal how few looks the TEs are getting when you have a top 5 TE DUO in the league and a bottom 3 WR room. I wish. -
Yes, but as of now, those aren’t guaranteed so you have options to make it whatever you want to bc he’s going to want guaranteed money. He’s one of the best in the game, it won’t be cheap, but it doesn’t mean it has to be a massive cap hit.
-
Those “outs” are for the original team, all the signing bonus stuff hits their cap, not the team he goes to.

it wasn’t supposed to be his replacement, this was supposed to be a 12 personnel team and both would get a lot of touches.. then Brady happened. Now nobody touches the ball. -
Devin White Released by Eagles. Should we take a flyer?
DCofNC replied to TonyBeets's topic in The Stadium Wall
He seems to be a head case. He has pissed off two teams to the point where they won’t put up with him. He’s got talent, A LOT of it. If and it’s a big IF he can do his job and keep his mouth shut, he would be a great addition to a real sore spot in this team. I’d bring him in for a workout/interview, offer a no guarantee vet min contract with incentives and the opportunity to reset your value in the league. If he can’t handle the professional aspect, he’s probably done in the league. This could be a last shot to perform and stay in check long enough to try to get another contract. -
Yes he could have been had and he was my realistic target. It does take two to make a trade, I feel like Beane was hell bent on moving back to get his 3rd round pick back though. I’m of the opinion, 1 stud is worth well more than another rotational player. So either they didn’t believe he was a stud, or they really don’t think they need that type of difference maker at WR. Either is concerning to me. I am high on Bishop too, assuming he turns out to be a good/excellent player, a lot will be forgiven. You really can’t judge him on his first real action after missing a lot of camp. I have high hopes for him going forward. I would actually rather suffer through the growing pains for him vs throwing another mediocre vet out there in his way. I firmly believe the Bills have the least talented S room in the NFL, Bishop showing up could change that. I’m sincerely hoping Edwards and Bishop take over and start to play fairly well.

I’m absolutely beating the drum that he has not hit on those guys, BUT I think he swung for them. Edmunds, physical freak, should be a super star, didn’t work. Singletary, “most exciting” back in his draft, ehh. Moss, all the right tools, turned out average. Oliver, some thought he was Aaron Donald 2.0, turns out he’s just solid. Groot.. same.. Basham was a wild swing for the fences that failed miserably. AJE also a physical specimen with high output in college, has turned out just ok. More recently, he went after Elam who has all the physical tools to be elite. Torrence again a physical monster who’s been ok.. he did kinda hit on Brown.. Kincaid, looked like he could be a Kelce clone.. well actually he kinda is this year.. even Knox was looking at potential and it’s turned out to be just a “good” player. Cook was “over drafted” in my mind, but he went after a game changer and as much as I don’t love him Cook is a legitimate top 10-15 back when you consider everything. Until this past draft, I don’t think he really played it safe, he swung for big potential, he just didn’t hit. What I find interesting is he’s swung for high ceiling guys and though they really haven’t hit, not many have actually been a complete bust. I don’t necessarily agree with who he chose, but on the same token, I would have taken wrong Josh over JA, so I don’t have much ground to stand on (but I also would have had Watson or Mahomes on the team already.. so nobody would have hated me.. I was unsure which one I liked more, both had great starts to their careers, one obviously got derailed).

Josh Allen Performance Yesterday..a Redux
DCofNC replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen has shown the ability to throw with anticipation, I don’t think that’s even a question. What’s also not a question is he has no body he can trust to get open/ know their assignment at this point. Coleman is a rookie, I’ll forgive him. The inability to separate at all by any of the other guys is a major problem. Anticipation requires you to know your guys will get to their spot ahead of the defender. Would you make that kind of throw with this goon squad of WRs out there? No, you wouldn’t. This team was built to beat the cover 2, it does it really well. The problem is, teams see that and are going away from cover 2 because there is nothing to worry about over the top. The only guy with speed is being used at the LOS, the two guys with experience and hands (Shakir and Kincaid) are not known for separation, but the ability to find soft spots in a zone. There is NOTHING stopping teams from taking away what this team does best because there is zero threat. Allen is not without flaw, one being he’s not a great deep ball thrower, yeah it looks nice, but it’s rarely on target. He’s also showing his nerves with a collapsing pocket this year, I don’t blame him, he’s been under fire. He continues to roll right and throw back to the middle, that’s a known tendency and if Houston is any indication, teams are now playing that. His throw back to the middle was more black jerseys than his own. It’s bad. I won’t blame him for not throwing with anticipation when guys have clearly shown they can’t get to their spots or create separation, that’s just asking for picks and we all can see he’s trying to limit those. They have to get out of the same patterns or this is going to be a long season and Josh will miss time due to injury. He’s been getting smacked around and it’s adding up already. To my eyes, there is an unwavering, non-adjusting scheme and a bunch of guys without the real talent to do much else. I don’t know where it goes from here, but a couple more games of this and we should be right back to looking at a mid-season Coordinator change. The real issue is a need for a coaching change in general, but it seems Terry isn’t about to make that move, so we’ll be here year after year, just short of being good enough.
