  1. This is where I do feel he was looking for prototypes, not necessarily the best football players. To be fair, I thought Watkins could be Julio Jones, turns out Mack should have been the pick.
  2. I agree, he’s kind of the Phil Jackson of NFL GMs, you can look awfully good with some of the Best talent EVER dropped in your lap.
  3. Actually, I don’t think that’s all that crazy. Aside from QB, Whaley built a strong team as evidence by the year McDermott took over, they were a playoff team, with a mediocre QB. The really regrettable part is not letting Whaley actually take his QB that draft, I feel it would have been Watson, but Maholmes was obviously there too. By playing it “safe” the Bills blew it. Imagine the possibilities of that team even with the rookie version of Watson. He was obsessed with stature, but he had built a good team, regardless of what people want to think. The contracts were not always good, but why Overdorf isn’t given more blame for that is my real question. What a lot of people don’t know, DW was THE reason they signed Mario Williams and yes, I understand he went on to struggle with Rex turning him into a friggin LB, but he was a really good signing when he was being used correctly.
  4. That’s kind of my point. If I just show you the raw stats, and we attribute the wins and losses to more than a QB, which seems pretty reasonable to do, Fitz has had a really good career. In fairness, Jim played in an era that wasn’t as pass happy, so the stats are skewed some and Jim played in Buffalo where we know at least 3-4 games a season are extremely difficult to pass in, where as Fitz hasn’t had those circumstances his whole career. On the other side, Fitz hasn’t had HOF talent all around him like Jim did, either. By no stretch is Fitz a comparable player to Jim Kelly, but I do think if Fitz had been a QB in that era, he would be looked upon as a better QB than he has been in these times and probably would have been considered close to a “franchise QB”. His brains and crazy plays, coupled with a road grading running game and a lower scoring league, he could absolutely look the part. I would argue he was/is better than Phil Simms, and many other guys that were considered greats because of the team around them. He would have fit well in that era. It would have been really interesting to see him on one of the great teams like the 49ers, with that west coast system, he plays a lot like Young did, or the Cowboys with Emmitt, Moose, Ervin and that great line, even Buffalo with Reed, Lofton, Thurman, etc. He’s never had a whole team to work with. If you look at the “great” QBs, they all have HOF talent around them to thrive. While it’s absolutely true they play a part in making the other guys HOF players, there’s still a huge difference between Josh Reed and Andre Reed. He did become the first passer with 400 yards in (3?) straight games when he had good talent and a favorable system around him with the Bucs, imagine if that team had any balance and Winston wasn’t there as the guy they took #1 overall. That could have been pretty epic. Watch for a shell of Tom Brady to have a lot of big games there too.
  5. I would absolutely keep both kickers on the roster. I would use them the way you are saying, BUT more importantly, I want 2 in case of Covid. If they test positive, they are out, just think about going into a game and on Friday (or later) you find out your kicker is out. With the struggle to find reliable kicking across the league last year WITHOUT Covid, I wouldn’t give up my kickers or risk them to practice squad. I do understand there are some practice squad exemptions this year, but for the situation the Bills are looking at, unless Haush looks done or Bass is completely lights out (impossible to know with no preseason), I’d use them to their strengths and go with it.
  6. Honestly, he really has. He’s the definition of a grinder, he’s been all over the league, actually holds some real NFL records, never was elite physically, but has managed to play at very high levels. Of course he has had the lows of not being physically gifted as the greats, but he’s still arguably one of the top 20 QBs in the league and has always been right there. He’s just too good to be a back up (for long) and not quite good enough that you want him to be the long term solution. He happens to be the guy that didn’t take long term deals (outside of Buffalo) and has moved around a lot and has done amazingly well in a multitude of systems. If you look back at all the younger guys who were high draft picks, he unseated and thrived in their place, it’s crazy. He will always be one of my favorite players, just a genuinely good guy, one heck of a sense of humor, gets through with hard work, brains, and sheer determination. How many player, QBs especially can you say have played for 8 teams, over 14 years and still is relevant? It’s unreal. Think of how many guys have come and gone in the NFL and here’s a 7th round pick who accumulated: 32k passing yards 210 touchdowns 60+% completion percentage 81.6 QB rating It’s not a HOF career, but if you get that out of a number 1 overall pick, you got it “right”.
  7. Really surprised Vevdik got no where. You would think a guy with his versatility would be in demand, but it appears he is far from it. Logical conclusion, he’s just refined enough for either position.
  8. Reality, the bills don’t have any pass rushers of his caliber. Hughes was close in his prime and not that he’s bad, but he’s not what he was. I’d give up next years first for him right now, the draft is going to be a ***** show anyway. Take the sure thing.
  9. No worries, I’m generally just typing what’s in my head, mistakes get made all the time. Go Bills!
  10. Certainly not shocking, really have not been able to rely on BoJo to get it done. Vevdik is a cool prospect, but does he actually have “it” to punt, I don’t know.
  11. Ok, I missed that, so that’s even more reason he has to show this year. Nobody wants a to pay what it’s going to cost to keep him. IF he isn’t stepping up. Once the QB salaries get more screwed up with Maholmes, Watson, Dak etc adding GIGANTIC numbers into the top 10 and knocking the last of the 20M guys out, that number is going to be 30 M
  12. Cost of the average of the top 10 salaries at the position for the year prior will be his salary. Guaranteed for injury immediately, in full as of first day of the league year.
  13. No, this is the make or break because you have to choose that 5th year option or not before the start of next season. That 5th year option will be guaranteeing him $30+M for year 5. So do it or don’t do it, but this is the year you have to see big steps in his overall game so you can choose to commit to him or look to move on after year 4.
  14. In fairness, who would he be throwing to? Their TEs were used as WRs for the most part. I’m not a Jackson fan (at all), but what he did last year leads me to conclude betting against him using a weapon isn’t real bright.
  15. Kind of what has been said, I’m very hopeful for Knox right now, but even talking him in the same breath as Kittle it Kelce is insane. First of all his name doesn’t start with a K, but secondly he dropped more balls last year the the 2 of them combined for the last 2 years. He made some really nice plays and he has the physical tools to be elite, BUT so have a lot of other guys. A great athlete does not guarantee great football success. He’s full of potential and was sure fun to watch on the run with the ball, he could be special, but Karlos Williams looked to be star bound and we see how that ended, so we have to temper our expectations a lot a bit.
  16. I think you see them start w Hauch, but in a time when you could be without a kicker for 2-4 weeks depending on how a Covid test goes and the lack of quality kickers available, I’d be sure to have a Kicker and an QB stashed just in case. Not having a quality option to kick could easily cost you a game/playoffs. It’s too big of a risk, especially when you consider kickers are generally responsible for the most points of any individual on the team. For the same reason, I would really have liked to seen Buffalo go after Dalton in FA a lot more aggressively, but if Josh goes down, we get to see Barkley again.. God help us/any team if their QB room gets hit w a round of Covid, it will be an interesting year. I would personally be requiring full PPE for any time they are not on the field and at very least, full shields on the face masks to reduce the chance of spread as much as possible. I would also not have the QBs or kickers in the same room more than necessary. I’m not scared of the virus, but you know damn well they aren’t getting to play if they get a positive test and that’s entirely too much risk for the team. If would be no surprise to me, if a team loses all their QBs in one week, has to go w a guy off the street. Some of the older, experienced fa’s are going to make bank this year. Sure wouldn’t be shocked to see Sam Bradford starting again this season. if I’m a GM, my protected PS list has a QB, K, and T on it For Sure. You just can’t plug anybody in those spots and hope for the best. Probably can get by with a P from the street, RB you should be able to live without, etc, but can you imagine if somehow you were to lose you starting QB (maybe even your back up too), LT, and K for 2 weeks? Not many teams can even think about winning in that scenario. It could easily happen.
  17. I expected Davis to get some pretty meaningful playing time anyway, Hodgins is in a roster battle, he better have come to play or he won’t have a spot AND it’s going to be super difficult for rookies to pick up new jobs without a preseason. I see it as: locks: Diggs Smoke Beez Davis battling for a spot: Roberts (makes it unless something happened to his speed, solid WR and great KR, special teams will be a need this year) McKenzie - gadget player maybe a returner Foster- size/speed combo , maybe flipped for a late round pick. Duke - size and supposedly great hands Hodgins- spent a pick on him, probably try to get him to PS . my guess is Roberts and McKenzie make it.
  18. Man, that’s a shame for him, he was on a promising trajectory and those injuries just destroyed it. Too bad.
  19. Good signing, he’s an upgrade to virtually anybody we had there and good insurance as who knows what is coming in terms of injury/Covid etc this season.
  20. That could be a great place for him if they use him like the Pats do w their backs catching a lot of short throws, outs him in space where he’s still really good.
  21. Can they still cut him/anybody that opts out? Just deal w the contract this year? Seems like it might make sense w an old guy like him. If he’s not going to play and then try to come back after a year off and was already declining... just go.
  22. Yeah, the flu sucks too, nobody shuts down the world for it. There’s obviously no sense in talking to you about the facts, you have you mind made up that this is bad and that’s that. There is no evidence of what you are claiming, just like all viruses, there has been a slight mutation and the antibodies aren’t the same. Stop being paranoid.
  23. Hard to believe that healthy young men are afraid of this virus, opting out means 1 of 4 things to me, 1) you don’t love the game 2) you are absolutely paranoid by everything the media says 3) you knew you were getting cut so you took the money 4) Because I know there was one case, your life mission is to help others and football doesn’t fit right now.
