Excellent argument AGAINST drafting a 1st Round RB
DCofNC replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we need to shift our strategy to our talent if we aren’t going to change the pieces. This O line needs to move to a zone blocking technique if we are going to really run the ball. That said, the real answer may just be to commit to actually running the ball, not just when you think you can catch them off guard, like 3rd and 16. -
The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
DCofNC replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are choosing to ignore the actual argument here. They hit on the QB and as has been said, he is carrying the underwhelming D that has had multiple top picks spent on it, with zero impact players. If you can’t see it, there’s no point in debating anything here anyway. -

They hit on one pick, the scoreboard says otherwise. But you go on being a homer. 3 drafts, one impact player from all of them. One. Well done, this was my thinking too. These guys are paid to rush the passer. He belongs in the MLB pay scale conversation. To me he’s not as valuable as Milano, so the discussion starts there. The next question is, with the contract that’s coming for JA, is there room for $20+ M a year in LBs who aren’t real difference makers? To this point, Edmunds is slightly above replacement level player and we are acting like he deserves to be paid top 5 at his position. Absolutely, unequivocally, he is not worth that. He is rivaling Clowney for most over rated player by fans and announcers alike because of his draft analysis. They were calling him the next LT, the only reason to bring him and Taylor up in the same conversation is to ask if LT is filing a defamation suit against ESPN for mentioning him in comparison to this guy. He’s a hell of an athlete, but he’s not a great football player. He has next to nothing in terms of instincts or feel for the game. Good qbs manipulate him so easily in coverage it’s a joke, he can’t shed blockers coming north/south and he can’t stay with TEs in coverage, so what exactly is it that he does to justify his hype? Paul Posluzney all over again. Go let somebody else pay you, we can do as well or better for far less. -

White was not a Beane pick and that could have been Maholmes, so let’s take a look at that. Signing a RT, drafting a starting LB and a kicker would not save your job. If they hadn’t gotten lucky as hell with Allen, they are already out the door. Ask Mitch Turbiski how things went in Chicago after his failed third year. The Bills were that close to being in the same spot. Luckily, Allen turned the corner, Mitch didn’t. -
Miami considering trading down from 6
DCofNC replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So where are they going, they went firm 3 to 12 then back to 6, basically giving up all the justification to move back and now they want to go back again? To what? 7-11? Unless they get lucky and Lance is sitting there and a desperate team comes calling, and gives them more than they gave up to go from 12 to 6, they are idiots. They SHOULD have stayed at 12 and got the benefit of moving down, but instead they realized they wanted a player they needed to be up the board fir and gave back virtually everything they got to go back up. -

I agree, the OL isn’t great either though and the money committed at this point is concerning. Look at the contracts and you expect to see Dallas 3 years ago, not the unable to run the ball and pretty good at pass blocking that we watched last year. They again are looking for the square peg to fill the RG position IMO. Ford needs to come back and be a road grader at G to get the run game going or we are watching the same ***** over again. This Bills will end up being Green Bay East, always in contention because of the QB, but always just short because they can’t put a whole team together. It’s a better purgatory, but not the one you want. -

They do this square peg round hole thing a LOT and it irritates me. Edmunds, OLB, not MLB. Ed Oliver, 3tech, not 1 tech. Epenesa, power rusher, make him lose all the weight and try to make him a speed guy. TE’s in general, holy hell it’s like they have no clue. The whole regime would be getting fired if it weren’t for hitting on Allen/Diggs. Literally , those moves saved the franchise. -

No, it’s an easy decision, he’s not getting that. -
To me this is the year you package your lower round picks to move up as high as possible and don’t pick anything beyond the 3rd round. My reasoning? At what position will a 4th round or later guy, in a weak class, have any real chance to make the roster? The ONLY possible ones are LB and TE and I don’t really even see that. You are going to be getting special teams guys at best. This roster, though far from perfect is going to be tough to crack. Even positions I don’t feel great about, there’s a ton of talent that’s hard to displace. DE, you have Addison, Hughes, Epenessa, Obada, Johnson that are all talented and hard to get rid of, then there are guys like Cox Jr and Love that are decent players in their own right. I’m not saying you can’t upgrade, but you’re probably not getting a guy in the 4th who’s going to win a job and at best he’s looking at inactive on game day. So where do you go? Who is going to get on the field? Not happening at any premium position. Depth is there in the secondary, there’s actually decent depth, albeit lack luster starters (my opinion) at LB, you have holes at 1Tech, DE can be upgraded as could TE, but you aren’t getting anybody better than what’s there after the 3rd. Sell the farm, go get 3 players and go to camp with more talent, less non sense.

Who are the 49er's going to take at 3
DCofNC replied to wagne591's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Any QB I would draft in the second, I would draft in the first to secure the 5th year option. That said, I don’t see Jones as an elite talent either, he may be good in the NFL, many of the best athletes fail and guys who aren’t perfect go on to be stars. To me the 49ers are insane to send all that capital to get the 3rd best guy and you don’t even know who that is yet. That means you basically have to be saying “Wilson, Fields, Jones, Lance are all good enough for me to give up 3 1st round picks for”. That’s insanity. The only guarantee is Lawrence won’t be there at 3, the rest is a guess. -
Jayson Oweh DE PSU my first round TGT.

We just signed the same guy with a little NFL success to a barely over minimum contract. Athletes are great, football players it does not make. -
Allen had 21 dropped interceptions last year
DCofNC replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah.. didn’t go digging for the Allen video, but counted 8 of 19 that were really drops from Maholmes. I think we all forget, half the reason guys play DB is they can’t catch. Pass break ups, hitting a D lineman etc, bull crap stat. -
Davis Webb elevated from PS: our new backup QB?
DCofNC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that’s all true, 1) I can’t believe this guy hasn’t gotten more of a shot to play, though he has been behind guys the organizations he was with couldn’t let him jump. 2) You have to root for him. 3) I’d love to see him more in preseason and see if he has the talent to get on the field, he sure looked good in college. 4)I hope the Bills make it a point to keep him. 5) Groom that man as our next assistant OC! -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
DCofNC replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have that guy in Knox, it’s getting the passes caught that are the issue. -
Players do get paid for OTAs, they get the work out bonuses. They don’t show up to work out, no money. It’s optional in that you get paid to get there. I do agree that this is a joke. The players want obscene money and don’t want to work, sorry, but no. This whole Covid thing is a joke too, but let’s not go down that path. If you opt out, ok. If you want to get paid, show up and do your job.

I’m no evaluator, nor did I watch him much this year, but he looks fluid, especially for his size and appears to have a pretty good ability to diagnose what’s happening and react quickly. Physically, he’s awesome, so that’s no problem. He really looks like he could be an exceptional free safety. The one thing I do see a lot is he is playing way off the line, which will be used against you in the NFL, not sure if he needs the time/space to see what’s happening or it was a scheme thing. I could definitely see taking a shot on him, he has elite traits, what that translates to is the big question. I will say, if McClappy sees something in him, I’d trust it.

Jesse James drawing interest from Bills

I’d be happy to have him. -
The crack game has obviously stepped up in Buffalo since I left Ny.

Could Cody Ford be the key to the offense improving this year?
DCofNC replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, a real X factor is a need. We have several playmakers, but not on a Tyreek Hill/ Kelce type of level. Nobody is really a “fear factor” for the other team. Diggs caught a lot of balls, but didn’t really make you fear him IMO, McKenzie looks like maybe he could be a Hill type, but didn’t get any looks after shredding Miami, RBs are a joke, TE is too, though Knox could be that guy if he would just catch the ball first. Josh is a problem on the move for sure, but you don’t really want your franchise trying to do it all, that’s how you end up with injuries you can’t afford. -

DCofNC replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All of that, plus Reed on the inside of the DL.. that’s pretty damn good for the best team in football all year long. The pirates stole the game because they were playing a horrible OL and had Brady.. Kc is still the team to beat and arguably they are better than last year. -
I for one don’t believe returning the same team that got smoked by a team that got better is the key to winning a SB. Then, I got thinking, Ford will be back, this is a big bad mofo, who is known for road grading. Does his experiment at RT being over, allow him to move inside and do what he does best? Just straight up maul people and open holes for the running game. Could he be the key to the run game getting on track and adding the dimension the O really needed last year? The passing game SHOULD be better, Sanders is at least a reasonable replacement for Brown, even if only from an availability standpoint. One would hope the TE does more this year. I expect a little more from Davis this year, Hodgins had a good camp and obviously, getting healthy for everyone would help. I’m looking for some additions in the draft as well. Also, Josh should take a few steps forward, so one would expect the passing game to be better. If the run game can come on, this team could be a LOT to handle. I’m hoping Ford might actually be that missing link.
-
The Ford at RT experiment is over, he can be the G everyone said he was, hopefully do it well and start creating some holes for the RBs that supposedly didn’t have any.
