I would rather have a WR core full of physical specimens that can not only put run a DB, but make a contested catch. The difference in 1/20th of a second in the 40 is unlikely to be the difference of success or failure as a great player, but it often gets guys with little football skill drafted because of the perception of it meaning something. If you look at the great WRs, there are very few burners and a bunch of guys that are 6ft tall or taller and are considered “slow” at the combine. I guess to the point, would you rather have Henry Ruggs (pre stupidity) or Julio Jones? Crazy fast is nice, if they can stay healthy, but ultimately a well rounded player is the better bet. Right now the Bills get to the Red Zone and have to rely on Allen too much to either run or make a perfect touch pass because they only have Davis (who apparently was forgot about early in the year, but I digress) or Knox to go to that can physically win off the line and box a DB out. Love Diggs, but he’s not a RZ threat so to speak, Beasley can be and is blown up a lot at the line, Sanders was the same and that’s all they run out there. I hope Dorsey turns up the physical play a bit more, use Doyle as a massive TE or FB, and they add another big guy or 2 as receivers. Small is great between the 20’s, but when you need to work in tight areas, size is a huge bonus.

Please explain why somebody in New Mexico should pay for a stadium in NY. The benefit is solely to the local economy. The Feds are going to get their income tax no matter what, so what is the benefit of the whole country paying for a venue that benefits locals? The state and the local jurisdictions should be the only ones looking to negotiate, if at all, on the stadium. Their tax base is the only one that serves to gain or lose anything by having a team or facility there.

One UFA you'd like the Bills to sign? (realistically)
DCofNC replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall
I actually agree here. Gesecki is not a great blocker, but just sheer size is an advantage over Beasley and he basically plays the same position. He’s just a WR that lines up funny sometimes. Beasley is no threat to take it to the house, so it’s not like you are losing that element. I’d like to see him out there to create mismatches. He could make it very tough to defend if you run 2TEs out there that are both receiving threats and at least big enough to get in the way of DEs. Tendencies would probably be running away from him, but then you play that, play action and throw it back to him, make the D have to think, that split second is all it takes to make plays work. I’m not sure it’s the absolute best pick, but adding him would be a nice pick up. I could argue for more speed, bigger WR, Pass rusher, etc, but play to your strength and add more weapons. -

No thanks.. guy is nothing more than we have. Nice story, but not an upgrade. -
Spotrac spitballs C. Kirk & C. Williams to Bills
DCofNC replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh is going to be a major reason why people want to play in Buffalo. It’s not going to be about the low taxes, great weather, or hot women. When you are talking about over 10% of your salary headed out to NYS and you really don’t get a break on out of state games, because Mass and NJ suck too, it’s a tough sell vs Arizona, Dallas, etc. If I were Buffalo, I’d try to play the game, and offer to make larger payouts for the Miami game. Like, your base is 10 M, but we’re are going to say it’s 2M and an 8M game bonus for playing the Dolphins in Miami, injury guaranteed. Level that playing field. Either way, I hope Kirk ends up in Buffalo, even if it means Beasley is out. -
I think the OP has a point, but it depends on how ballsy Star feels, if he says “no, go ahead and release me” the Bills lose the cap space and he loses money. So will they follow through? He stands to do nothing but lose money if he renegotiates. They could tell him, he’s gone no matter what, so take the money in signing bonus, get paid now, get released, they spread the cap hit out for 2 years w post June 1 designation, he gets a chance to go elsewhere if he wants or go home a rich man.

150 draft prospects threaten to boycott Combine
DCofNC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is just obvious foolishness. As soon as the playoffs came, boom we aren’t testing because it’s not necessary. Now they are back to bending the knee and acting like it’s something they have to be restrictive about. I hope all the top prospects say, “you can come to me”. -
Spotrac spitballs C. Kirk & C. Williams to Bills
DCofNC replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
It would be sweet to have Kirk in B-lo. He’s not a true #1 but he’s a menace when somebody else has the primary coverage. He should be a 1000 yard guy in Buffalo out of the slot. I could see it being something like Diggs getting 90 and 1100, Kirk getting 80 and 1000 and Davis getting 70 and 900 with 12 TDs. Davis may start commanding more catches if he can get in the groove he had rolling in the 2nd half of the year, he’s got elite speed/size combo and has shown sticky fingers, good body control, we could have Anquan Bolden in the making. That would be a hell of a win. -
Familiarity goes a long way, but Zay did have a hell of a college career and had the physical attributes you look for. It was a good pick, it didn’t work out. Obviously, you would now rather have the other 2, but physically Zay has more ability and caught everything thrown at him in college. Something broke in that man’s mind, the other 2 really clicked in gear and killed it.

Morse returning is going to be based on Morse wanting to play or not. You can’t replace him for less and he’s not a bad player. He got over paid when we signed him, but that’s in the past. I would t be shocked if he retires, won’t be shocked to see him back, but I highly doubt they outright cut him.

Derek Carr in line for $40 million per year extension
DCofNC replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nope, let him walk, he’s marginally better than Mariota. -
Didn’t love the signing when it happened and I’m not going to change my mind. Allen elevates players around him and Sanders was a non-factor. Time to put Gabe out there at #2 and draft some more WRs. Still could use a true game changer, but unlikely we land one, unless we get lucky and one drops in the draft. If they part ways with Bease, they are going to have to find a new slot guy too. I know everyone thinks the Bills are stacked at WR, yet if you look at the facts, they have one guy under contract who has ever had a 1000 yard season. Only one who was good enough to make the active roster that’s over 6’ tall. And none that are game changer speed. The group is honestly pretty mediocre as a whole. Allen has brought them up, Beas and Diggs had their career best years with him, he made Smoke relevant for a couple years, hell he had people thinking Robert Foster was an NFL player. Allen has made a mediocre cast look good, if he had elite talent around him, it could be obscene.

Rams Team Building Strategy Will It Be Duplicated or a Rareity
DCofNC replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think some teams might be a little more willing to go to proven difference makers vs hoping picks turn out, if they are contenders. The Bills came up short and may not have if they had taken similar risks to the Rams. The Rams are basically going to have to blow their roster up, but they got the ring. I’d make that trade. -
He pretty well showed there’s nothing left in the tank. He was a non-factor all year, IDGAF what the “pressure” numbers show, unless it changed something, it’s nothing. He’s not getting home at all anymore. He’s no longer faster/stronger and he never had size, it’s time to move on.
-
He’s not a world beater with his legs, that’s no doubt, but we aren’t talking about Drew Bledsoe either. He’s mobile in the pocket and has had a little success taking off when the opportunity presents itself. He’s most definitely a passer that can take advantage of an opportunity, unlike Josh who can CREATE opportunity with his legs. Josh also holds the ball too long, the difference in the two is the ability to make things happen with their legs, Josh has a special ability, Burrow is more likely to take a sack.

If he does I would see it as a cosmic shift in the way people are thinking these days. The point of work is to live, if I could retire after 8 years and be set for life, there’s no way I’d continue to work, why should we expect it to be different for these guys? The allure of money is there, but what good is money of you beat your body to a pulp and can’t enjoy life with it?

Colts to either trade or cut Carson Wentz
DCofNC replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
I love Minshew, he might get that shot, but I’d be pretty surprised. I think they would be more likely to look at Mariota or Winston. There may be some others who end up moving around too. I would have to think they will look to a vet that can manage the game with a little upside. They could have gone places this year with a decent QB. I’d be listening to all options, but I think Mariota makes a lot of sense.
