Mix and match Allen/Mahomes and Reid/McDermott
Mikie2times replied to Lifefan1's topic in The Stadium Wall
Historically I have not felt Allen was at the level most here did. Which for most on here is ahead of Mahomes. He's just so unorthodox. So I sort of got tired debating the nuances of what I feel he could do better vs just enjoying him and the team. -

I never thought he was the problem. He is the only reason we are where we are. Andy Reid went 20 years without winning a Super Bowl. His playoff record was was 11-13. KC drafted Mahomes, since that time he has two Super Bowl wins and is 13-3 in the playoffs. You want me to believe your anecdotal based on nothing story about how the above happened? I bet you still want Sean as HC. -

My position is probably a bit confusing here. I believe Reid is in a similar spot as Belichick with Brady. Good coach? Sure. But he's made out to be the massive game changer. I don't find it coincidental he only got over the hump with Mahomes. I feel Sean is actually a bad coach. Perhaps he is good at some things like culture building but he's bad at so many others. As far as rosters go with these elite QB's, I think as long as the roster is above X history has said that is enough. That both teams are likely good enough at that level. If not, fairly close. At least close enough that I can't or perhaps don't want to debate it. Because then it gets into a individual player conversation and I ask myself did I ever do this with Kelly and Marino or Marino and Elway, etc, etc. The answer being no. So in my point was, if it's not Allen, which at one point I sort of felt, but no longer do, it's Sean. Could some roster variance be it. Sure, but it gets complicated going down that path. -

It's not that I don't believe they impact things. I don't believe when people think they can quantify how much and separate who fits. In the end it can't be done with any degree of accuracy because you can't measure anything you're saying. What we can do is use history to evaluate how coaches performed before and after QB's arrived. At least that has some ability to be measured. Reid went 20 years doing very little with a below average playoff record and no Super Bowls. Mahomes shows up and now all of a sudden he's the best coach in the NFL. We have already seen this play out with Belichick. -
Jim Harbaugh to become new Chargers HC

Also worth noting, prior to his arrival, Stanford, the 49ers, and Michigan were all dumpster fires. -

He totally got rocked by his brother in the Super Bowl his 2nd year after two straight NFC Championship games and one win. What a hack. -

Tyreek Hill Travis Kelsey Justin Houston Marcus Peters Chris Jones Those game changers only mattered after Mahomes got there. -

That team is an instant contender. You don't play for him and lack discipline. That team was pillow soft. They will be aggressive, physical, and disciplined on both sides. Herbert will get a rushing game. My only spec of happiness in this is it will strengthen the west. -

You think Allen is 20+ points better than Mahomes on the same team? -
I was just about to post a link about Bill breaking up with the Patriots because he was having an affair with Goodell. I guess video was submitted to the Boston Globe. It also has Tom Brady doing something weird. Article wouldn't specify. I guess it belongs in this thread now.

Buffalo ranked better in DVOA than KC the last two years. Nobody would ever call them elite. As I have said, Andy Reid is not the reason, Sean is. It's either that or it's Josh. Our talent gap vs KC is not so severe that it serves as justification. I don't believe it's Josh. Andy was a permanent brides made prior to Mahomes. Something has to give. -

Andy Reid went 20 years without winning a Super Bowl. His playoff record was was 11-13. KC drafted Mahomes, since that time he has two Super Bowl wins and is 13-3 in the playoffs. Why does everybody think it's Andy Reid or the roster? The clear smoking gun is Mahomes, just like it was Brady in New England. So if Allen is on that level what is holding Buffalo back? I don't believe we can conclude it's the roster. Patriots and Chiefs didn't win all those Super Bowls because the roster. For my dollar Reid and Belichick help. Sean hurts. What happens when you partner a hall of fame QB with a crappy head coach? Divisional losses. -

Only three coaches in the Super Bowl era with a winning % above .600 and no conference championships. LaFluer, Marty, and McMartuer -
If you survive a 17 game schedule with the best record in the conference don't you deserve an unfair advantage?

I can't wait until dabolls system is gone for good!!!!
Mikie2times replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
It would be a catastrophic mistake to switch systems. This system is a perfect fit for Josh and his talent. It allows him to leverage his athletic ability and skill more so than other systems would. -
His INT vs the Patriots is the best INT I have seen in the 30+ years of watching this game. Really love Hyde. Will be sad to see him go.

McDermott - Excuses, Valid but concerning
Mikie2times replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
We can’t get a top mind in either spot. Defense would infringe on his turf. They couldn’t run a different system. Nor operate independently at all. Offense would never have the freedom to draw a top mind. He would box in the ideology to complimentary football and restrict ingenuity. He’s preventing us from being in the market to grab a top coordinator in either position. We will only ever go as far as his beliefs, ideas, and strategies. He wasn’t even that successful as a coordinator. If only he could let go and become a coach to his coordinators. Empower others to be great. He has shown a knack for keeping this team level and focused and he is a leader. That is his only chance to salvage this but it will never happen. That’s not who he is. They went to the Super Bowl the first year after Dungy stepped down. Manning was also a big part of the problem with that teams playoff success, along with the greatest dynasty of all time and a McD like HC. -

He has one of the worst divisional playoff records in NFL history. He is one of only two coaches that have a .600 or better regular season record and have not won a conference championship (LaFluer). Our current ceiling is a wild card victory. Who would not be able to navigate us to such a feat if he wasn’t around? If you don’t believe he is the wrong guy we are getting awfully close to just needing a change in scenery. We can’t just run it back every year. We are wasting time. -
What realistic coaching changes do you expect?
Mikie2times replied to BigBadBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Brady will be the OC. If we bring in or promote a DC they will have very little influence. I don’t expect anybody to even have the leash Frazier did again. McD is not about best man for the job, he’s about falling in line and doing things the way he wants. -
So many prospects here. I don't see Coleman at all like Harry. I had a chance to see Harry a lot in college but I agree Coleman might have issues separating. He's very athletic for a 6'4 WR, but he still doesn't have that ultra fast twitch that you want. Strider, more vertically athletic than agile and quick. I love Odunze, I don't see him lasting though. Leggit is also intriguing. Almost Metcalf like in his frame, which historically has meant injury risk, but explosive player. I wonder if the Bills view this depth as a reason to wait even later than the 1st round or an opportunity to nab a potential top flight WR late. What concerns me is we could still draft defense as we will have a lot of holes on defense. Which is really damning considering we have invested so many resources already.

Bigger target is what I want. Enjoy, he's a beast.

I really like Keon Coleman, but really this draft is an embarrassment of riches at WR. All I really care about is targeting a bigger body WR, 6"3 or taller. Franklin fits the mold. Several others as well. Josh likes to throw people open. Complete shame we haven't given him a guy that can post up and make contested catches.
