Some thoughts on why we can't get over the hump
Mikie2times replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think something is to be said for just where we are vs where they’re. When you reach a Patriot level, that’s all you care about. The bones are in place. Winning is almost secondary to situational execution. If I have a degree of hope I think McD will know we are going to get to the playoffs. We will be in position. What this team needs to focus on is execution in critical situations. What are the 4th and short calls, the final drive defensive calls, the final drive calls. We are at the point where that’s what matters more than anything else. -
Bills Have Low Percentage of First Read Pass Completion- Why?
Mikie2times replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
I get it man. I used to throw some shade at Allen about this. I actually throwed so much shade at him I had to apologize to a few on here. I changed my view over time. I still don’t think he will ever be a guy that throws with anticipation and I don’t think that’s good. But his talent and ability to stretch plays is so rare. So he ends up completing balls that just outside the scope of reality. Nobody is like him and I’m not sure anybody will ever be like him. It’s an interesting conversation if people can keep the feels out of it. -
Bills Have Low Percentage of First Read Pass Completion- Why?

I have thought Josh is more of a see it guy for a long time. Usually people shred my a$$ for saying such things. But I still feel that way. I used to think it put a ceiling on him, maybe it does, but it’s not an easy equation. He bails from the pocket so quickly which prevents sacks and leads to the defense breaking down. Then he’s one of the best of all time taking advantage of it. Josh is just not normal. He truly is a one of kind type QB and MVP level player. So I’ve tried not to hyper analyze how he makes that happen. -
Lost in the sauce: Outstanding Performances vs KC

Interesting perspective. I’m inclined to agree. Bryce Paup or Ted come to mind. But that was a long time ago. -
Mason Graham is just an animal

Since 2020 they have played 16 playoff games and scored 28+ 5 times. 3 have been verse us. The other they scored 27. So is it fair to shift the question away from can we win with scheme to is this the optimal scheme vs KC?

In some ways, this is worse than the drought in my opinion

Good post OP, I have often felt the same way about this situation. But we have to learn to enjoy the ride and be thankful for the ride. To me this is like a great relationship. When you don’t have one and it’s what you want it sort of gets you down, but if you lose one you really care about it can really rock you. In the end life is about the emotions, the swings, and the vulnerability. You just aren’t as vulnerable when you have nothing. -
Lost in the sauce: Outstanding Performances vs KC

His open field tackle on Hunt in the first half was impressive. It was near the right sideline. Looked like Hunt was going to score and Bishop just made a great play on him. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s significantly better next year. -
Any more so than if you asked this any year before the playoffs started?

Even after they ruled it on the field Gene had time to get his dime piece off his lap and say he thought he got it. -

Milano is a good addition here. Most people thought he was washed as late as the Wild Card round and then boom. -
Miller KO'ed...This time it was Von Miller on the ground and not,,,,, Too soon and Too old, Sorry V Dog

He will be on the team again and it won't be at any of the numbers being discussed in this thread

I don't have even a remote interest in debating this team with you. You balance arrogance with inaccuracy at a rate that would make Nick Wright blush.
-
That's rich. Do you recall tagging me like 4 times in this game thread to proclaim how right you were about the Texans defense sucking? Tell me, are we playing in the Super Bowl if we had the Texans defense? Your opinions have aged about as well as an old mans dick.

I don't think it's as malicious as you make it. All of us have jobs and many of us have have had a boss who gave us the ownership to live and die by the ideas we had. Which really empowers you to create and be innovative. It gives you ownership and passion towards the results. Then many of us have had a boss who made sure we CC'ed them on every email. Who made us consult them on every decision. Which eventually just makes you feel like you have no authority to make decisions and eventually removes ownership. The difference in those two people is how they're wired. Just because your boss is one way or another doesn't make them a prick or not talented. But one approach leads to innovation and another leads to the status quo. The status quo can be fine if you're Bill Belichick or Andy Reid, but it can also not be fine if your level of ingenuity isn't at that level. Which very few ever will reach while also being able to be the HC of a team. McD is clearly the boss you CC on every email. Which means we will only be as innovative as he is. Which as I said earlier sort of kills his best asset as a potentially great CEO.

No he is not and I'm not even trying to pick on the guy at this point. Our draft picks are cookie cutter selections for his system. You can't blame the talent and not draw a line back to him. He is an elite CEO who got to that place as an individual contributor. As one of his larger antagonists I firmly believe if he would truly let go of his individual contributor ideology he could be one of the greats. That is often the hardest thing for any coach to do and the hardest thing for any person to do in the role they have. To step back and say, maybe I don't know best. Maybe I have to trust others. Very few coaches ever get to the point of an agnostic system. If he could impart his wisdom with the up and coming ideas an outside entity could bring then he could become one of the greats. If he clings to what he knows and never hires outside the organization he won't grow and neither will we.

James Cook- Cook’s fourth-down run—WOW. I’m honestly struggling to remember a more clutch run in the last 30+ years of watching this team. The way he just defied gravity? Insane. People used to say he wasn’t that physical, but that run proved otherwise. Before the playoffs, I was thinking, “He’s just a running back, don’t extend those guys.” But after that performance? Yeah, you gotta give him a second contract. He’s been the second-best player on the offense, a legit difference-maker. Honestly, it blows my mind we didn’t see him more. Mack Hollins—We brought him in on the cheap, and he delivered. The guy’s energy and attitude are contagious, and he stepped right into Gabe Davis' role, playing better than Davis in most regards. Hollins definitely earned his spot and should 100% be a Buffalo Bill moving forward. Tyler Bass—huge credit to him. Like many, I had my doubts about him coming off last year, but he shook that off and made some huge kicks, including a clutch 50+ yarder. He stepped up when it mattered, nailed all his extra points, and looks like he’s turned the corner. I love seeing a guy overcome adversity and show that mental toughness. Mini shout out to Ed Oliver who from my view point gave everything he had in the postseason after arguably his worst regular season as a pro. Sort of the inverse of what we have seen from him historically. He seemed more motivated this postseason than any prior and I appreciated the tenacity. Another mini shout out to Jordan Phillips. I'll be honest, I can't speak to his play this entire game with the intelligence I wish I could. I was watching a lot of things but the play he made late in the 4th quarter was one of the better ones this season. He just decimated the interior of the KC offense. Picked up a grown A$$ NFL offensive lineman and proceeded to throw him into Mahomes. Just an awesome play. I feel like in a lot of regards the roster stepped up more this year than any year prior. They looked more hardened, more physical, and more determined which perhaps points to other elements as driver to why it didn't work out. We played with a ton of heart and these guys really stood out to me. Curious if you noticed any others or just shared a similar view as I did.

Some thoughts on why we can't get over the hump
Mikie2times replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I had that youthful shot of excitement when we had the ball up 22-21. The Cook TD was just so amazing. Then we get the ball back. But when we got stopped I knew it was game. Even after the TD on 4th down. We cant play the “if we score last” with this team. You need to be up 8 or more, force them to tie. Thats the only way we get this done. -

This is a really good debate between these two. Not one sided like the title implies. -

If we run it back, which we will, the goal is simple. First round bye or bust. This team can't keep facing Lamar, Burrow, or Mahomes in the divisional and then again on the road. They need more of a lay up divisional game and then a home game in the conference champion. That would be a sign to say maybe its different. To do that we can't have any early season lapses, slow starts, sleepy games. We need to be out for blood from the jump.
