It's probably more overcompensation then anything else. You see it a lot with mobile QB's. Coaches try and keep these guys in the pocket to keep the structure of the play. Also remember while the yards might not be piling up on the ground, he's also probably hung in for a few throws he wouldn't have last year.

Marv Levy,Donahoe, Modrak, etc.
Mikie2times replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't credit Marv with scouting, not the draft or free agency. To think he could come in at his age, after being out for this long, in a role he's never had, and be responsible for scouting................... It's a stretch. Lot's of credit should go to the talent evaluators. The biggest thing I credit Marv for is his humbleness and philosophies. He might not have found the Daunte Whitners of the world, but his views on character is what led our scouts to these type of players. His willingness to humble himself to our scouts, and others allowed us to pull the trigger on these recommendations. TD would rather make a decision and be wrong, then allow somebody else to make the decision for him. We were going to live and die with every call TD made. Marv is willing to look at his scouts, and the time they spend, and say you might just be more knowledgeable then me in this area. It may be unorthodox to have this many on the food chain, but who's to say it's not the best structure? It takes a rare breed to be the Don of all this, but that's exactly what Marv is. -
Hey blue, I mean no disrespect in that, I'm sure he did have a big impact on Vince Young. I just judge coaches on game day. To me Mack Brown is Lloyd Carr, both have immense talent, both have national championships. But I don't think either is great on game day, and the success they had is more a product of recruiting then coaching.

Mack Brown cant win the big game, but Vince Young could.

Think about the role our safety’s had within the system we played the last couple years. The whole system was predicated on the blitz, and it was pretty much guaranteed if we didn't get pressure we were screwed. Vincent and Milloy were aging by the snap, and lost the game speed needed from that position. I contend that the defensive system we had was not created by morons. It was created because we didn't have the athleticism at safety to play straight up ball. We had savvy vets who could read plays, and help younger players, but there legs couldn't keep up with there minds. Jauron and Marv didn't want to play this style of defense, so we upgraded early at a position that isn't the popular for upgrading early. Over the course of the season I think we will see how bad it really was, and the difference two sub 4.45 athletes can make as the last line of defense.

Doesn't hurt my feelings. Fug Charlie Weis, BB, and the 100 pounds of breast they have between each other.

Turnovers, and big plays killed the Irish. It's still premature but thoughts of Ohio State/Michigan being undefeated the last week are starting to pop into my head. I'm no fan of the Buckeyes but I don't like that match up in Columbus. Superior coaching for Ohio State, and Hennie reminds me to much of a college version of Drew Bledosoe.

Barry Sanders highlight reel
Mikie2times replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's exactly it. Brown was 6-2, 232 and was the fastest player on the field in almost every game he played. He's had several people give interviews that he never worked out. That size is huge by TODAYS RB standard. It's crazy to think how far ahead of his time Brown was. Transplant 60's Jim Brown in todays game and he's still one of the best in the NFL. -
I think some are talking as if Thailog was a good person that did a bad thing. NO good person could do the things described in those articles. Bad people can be funny, nice, and caring. They can love there children, and they can love there family. Kelly probably had a lot of those traits and qualities at times. I pray god gives those children the strength to understand this one day. Perhaps to forgive him for what he did. But as someone who only knew him on a message forum nothing he contributed online speaks as loud as what happend that day.

Will McGahee Still Play for the Bills?
Mikie2times replied to TNBillFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me Willis is just outside the elite backs in the NFL and the 4th and 1 symbolizes that. On the 4th down he made an excellent cut which was the only reason he had a chance at the first to begin with. That's the great vision coming out, which has probably been his greatest strength following the injury. Despite the fact that Flower got blown up Willis just didn't have the acceleration to finish up that run. It opened and closed very fast, but the best backs in the league would have made that first down. The expectation level for Willis around here is that of a top 5 back. The player that Willis was at Miami would meet those expectations. We really didn't know what we were getting with him, so when he came out his second year on fire most of us thought he was back. We also thought that eventually he would completely recover. I refuse to believe he will ever COMPLETLY recover. But the good new is we still have a top 10 back, and that makes us better off then most the teams in this league. -
I was just about to start a thread on the subject. Vermeil became one of my favorite announcers as the game wore on. The amount of credibility he brings, and his ability to communicate are excellent. I always looked at jaws as one of the more credible guys on ESPN. His past experience with Vermeil only adds to the chemistry. As for Nesseler I think he's underrated as a play by play guy. I hope he does more pro football. The other crew was horrendous. At times Kornheisier sounded like his mic wasn't on, and Theisman was his usual overbearing dusch bag self. I also never really cared for Mike Terico as a play by play man.

Any success Buffalo has had the last decade has lasted about two seconds. I don't understand what people expect the media to do. The Bruschi ball washing last year was rather pathetic, but this obsessive outlook so many have about being disrespected is more fabrication then reality. When we had something going for us in the early 90's, and when Flutie was around the national media was all over us. The Bills were on national TV with Patriot like frequency. The year we crushed New England for the opener, many at ESPN were calling us the best team in football. By week 2 we reached #2 in the power rankings. By the time reality set in thousands of Bills fans were left devastated. What we look like is a team that has posted one of the worst records in football the last 5 years. That has a brand new offense, defense, and an unproven QB. Respect will come when we earn it.

Will we ever see teams forced out

I agree that a big factor is how well your scouting department can grade players, but at the same time the cap is only going to continue to get slanted. Even when the FA market falls in line with the cap values how can we expect the Bills to max out this massive new cap with such a huge revenue disparity. We need to find a way's to stay competitive in the new NFL. Take Buffalo's drafts from 2000-2004, a 5 year sample. 1st Round Picks- Eric Flower, Nate Clements, Mike Williams, Willis McGahee, JP Losman, Lee Evans 2nd/3rd Round Picks- Travares Tillman, Corey Moore, Aaron Schobel, Travis Henry, Ron Edwards, Jonas Jennings, Josh Reed, Ryan Denney, Coy Wire, Chris Kelsey, Angelo Crowell, Tim Anderson Over this span we've had six 1st round draft picks, and twelve picks in rounds 2/3. Out of those picks we fielded these players that have started games. 1st round starters- Clements, MaGahee, Evans, Williams, Losman 2nd/3rd round starters- Schobel, Henry, Jennings, Crowell, Edwards, Kelsey, Anderson, Denney, Reed While this reflects the poor quality of our drafts from this span, it also shows why coaches like Jimmy Johnson favored such a high ratio of 2/3 round picks. Not only did we field a similar amount of starters in rounds 2/3, but we also added twice the amount of depth, with twice the allotment of draft picks. In the future these picks will come at a fraction of the cost when compared to the massive contracts 1st rounders will sign. If the Bills love a guy in round 1 I'm not suggestion we bail, but trading down should become a much more viable option in the future. -
The contracts rookies signed for this year are insane. Take Vernon Davis for example. Here is a player that never played a down yet he's compensated more then Antonio Gates. What's scary is the cap will only continue to rise. Teams like Buffalo will have the cap room to stay in the first round, but eventually the contracts these players sign might exceed the risk/reward ratio. Imagine if last years draft class got paid what this years did? Practically no value would have existed in the first round. Eventually you might see some of the smaller market teams turn to the Jimmy Johnson strategy. If a guy they love is available in round 1 they might take the chance, but it could be common place for Buffalo's of the world to make trading down the priority. In years like the previous one I certainly wouldn't mind.

Good to see he's a "new person". Whatever happened to the days of driving drunk and not trying to get caught? -
If the question is who would you rather have, I would have to go with Quinn. He plays for Weiss in a pro style offense, and at times can look very similar to Tom Brady. I look at him as a Palmer/Manning type QB. Leak could be good but I have to look down on the way he transitioned last year in Urban Meyers offense. I don't exactly think Florida’s offense is tailored to Leak, but I just don't see him catching on to the speed of the NFL very quickly. Another potential guy to look out for is Drew Stanton, he reminds me of a more mobile Drew Brees, or Chad Pennington. He's a very accurate, smart player whose draft position will be determined by his senior year.

Have people really gotten that sour towards Moulds to compare him to Aiken? No disrespect for Aiken, but over the last 3 years Moulds has 2639 Yards, 233 receptions, and 10 TD. Sam Aiken has gone for 240 yards, 18 receptions, and 0 TD. Do the math and Moulds has 11 times more yards, 13 times the receptions, and 10 times the TD's. Moulds wasn't staying a Bill, and ended his tenure under some tumultuous conditions. But let's not forget that he was one of the best WR's in Buffalo history, during a time when we never had a consistent QB. Even on the downside of this, to think his loss won't be felt in any way is a clear case of Pat Williams syndrome.
