Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract

@Billl It seems like you want to play both sides on this. In one post you’re saying this is only about money to this point. In another you start talking about future contract earnings being higher. Teams have been able to pursue him and they haven’t (not a good look) If he signs the franchise deal he will be a year older the next chance he has at this (not a good look) If he signs the franchise deal he is even a minor injury away from really risking his payday as he’s already shown issues with injuries (and will be a year older) I would keep the argument only on “up until now”. Outside that, almost no path exists to him making more money next year. He would have to ball The F out next year, avoid injury, and show he can excel in a passing system. It’s very risky. Look at what Romans QB’s have done in the past and what they do after. Tyrod and Kaep made the pro bowl 😂 -
That 99 defense had Bruce, Phil, and Washington. It was arguably the best defense in Bills history and that team, arguably goes to the Super Bowl that year if it wasn’t for MCM.

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract

It's a negotiation. We won't know until it's over. Can you show us the path in which you feel this has increased his value? -
Out of the 14 teams that have played him 3 times or more since 2018 a few stand out All stats are 2018 or later, minimum 3 games against, playoffs included, 14 qualifying teams, stats are all per game averages Patriots = 3 games, 2nd in Catch %, 1st-Tie in Receptions, 1st in yards, 1st-Tie in TD's Indy = 3 games, 1st in Catch %, 1st-Tie in Receptions, 6th in yards, 3rd-Tie in TD's Denver = 10 games, 4th in Catch %, 3rd-Tie in Receptions, 2nd in yards, 6th in TD's Buffalo = 5 games, 8th in Catch %, 12th-Tie in Receptions, 10th in yards, 13th in TD's Indy has had a very good defense during this time. Darius Leonard has been an all pro LB nearly the entire time for them. New England is just a good scheme team. Denver has also been very good on defense and has played more man defense than most teams during this time. Kelce also appears to be better against zone than man, ranking 8th in yards per route vs zone and 26th vs man.

Very good write up. Love the UDFA / QB comparison, so accurate. I watched 4-5 games, not as much as you, but enough to not really think of him at this level. So to see where he is being slotted, my mind is just blown.

I mean, maybe this technique could work. Maybe it completely backfires. I assume it's more likely the latter given several teams could do this each year and none really have ( have they ever ? Drafting a QB with only intent to flip?). Maybe you're onto something they aren't, but I don't know. I think you assume Buffalo has the power from a negotiation stand point with something like this. I don't think we should make that assumption. If you did this you're working against the clock as far as this years draft capital and recovering your assets. If you don't recover higher capital and things move into the next year, I don't know what scenario he would be worth more. He isn't playing, so developing, in reality or the eyes of others seems limited. I think we would see this technique more if it was likely to produce a good result.

Good perspective on how good we were last year
Mikie2times replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think most on here ever thought we weren’t a very good team. We just want a Super Bowl and are concerned at how the season has ended the last few years and if we can get over the hump with the systems we have in place, the coaches, and certain areas of the roster. I really don’t think most on here care anymore about regular season wins (I agree they should, as I think breaking thru in the playoffs is best served by getting there a lot, it just hasn’t happened yet) -
Cam Newton open to backing up Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen
Mikie2times replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t want him, but he did play under BB in New England. I don’t think BB would have a guy playing for him that can’t be a team player. If we really cared that much about a #3 he would probably be among the better ones in the league even at his age. -
I mean, he was the lowest rated passer in the entire conference with at least 200 attempts. Tennessee was one of the worst defenses in the SEC. He had over 40 attempts that game. Utah, he had 170 yards passing. Georgia was mop up duty as he got mopped up. Watching him, it was just a guy running around and playing outside of the playbook. Josh really is a unicorn when it comes to hit rate of this type of profile and he wasn't playing for the Florida Gators. I just don't get it. I understand how physically talented he is but that's all he is. Throw Levis in the same discussion. Kentucky was a power run team. Levis was a decent college QB, but that's all. How desperate has this become? I just don't think in past years these players would be slotted like this.

Anthony Richardson wasn't good against above average teams at Florida. How is he going to be good in the NFL?

I'm looking for examples from the forum that ended up being either available or very close, the player ended up being good, and the board was on him. The biggest example I can think of is Haloti Ngata. I think 90% of the forum wanted him. We ended up with Donte Whitner instead. Anybody else stand out to you?

If the question is do I think the Bengals can afford both Burrow and Chase, the answer is no. I touched on this in another thread. Brown is not a very wealthy owner. He won't be able to convert salary into bonus money like Terry can. Burrow will be the highest paid QB in football. Chase could very well demand the same at WR. I see Higgins being more likely a guy that stays, but it will be very hard for the Bengals either way once Burrow signs his deal.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
Mikie2times replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
I didn't say Ralph didn't spend. He did sometimes and he didn't others. I said he was not a rich NFL owner. Also, like Brown, he became wealthy based on the team. Terry is in a much different position and I think anybody would agree that the way we spend now is just different. We are converting salary to bonus, paying huge sums in chunk money up front to free cap space. All luxuries very wealthy owners can employ, Brown and Ralph were never in that category. -

Even bigger, Mike Brown is not rich by NFL owners standards. So using the whole cash to cap method for the Bengals just isn't possible. They're very similar to the Ralph Wilson era Bills. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of this all they have is Burrows. That said, just like Buffalo, having the elite QB will be enough of a threat. -
I think he would fall in line (at least for a few years) to a guy like BB. I also think BB is so researched on the game. We would likely end up seeing all sorts of player groupings. I mean he studied the wing T and single wing. Having said this, Baltimore knows what he is and isn’t better than anybody. If they’re willing to deal him to the Patriots I think it has an air of Drew Bledsoe to it. Nobody is trading a threat to a competitor.

New England is the only team I don't want Jackson going to.
