Tre was not the same last year, but this year, nothing we have seen would indicate he is not shut down. He missed a few tackles on plays he shouldn’t have been the last guy. As far as coverage, I don’t even think I have seen him on the TV outside of his pick against Washington and Wilson’s TD. QB’s are not going near him. Sure, we will overcome it. But does it take away from the tops end this defense would see? Sure. Also reasonable to expect we saw his worst and it was only going to get better. Tre is a leader and fought his tail off it get back. This sucks. I would take a loss and Tre healthy without a thought.

Found this interesting for those who used to enjoy Football Outsiders (the site is dead). Aaron Schatz is now a writer for this site and he brought the popular DVOA ranking system with him. As many of you who follow DVOA know Buffalo is usually ranked very high. We once again come in #1 on the year with the dorsal fins #2. I've been pretty vocal about Josh needing to dial back the mistakes, but really starting to turn to the view of "F" it, we live in die with this man being a gunslinger. We just don't have an offense that can dink and dunk. It's not who we are. If Josh plays free (whether that freedom is based on his own mindset or potential restraints he has) our volatility will increase, but our top output will also increase. Just some rando thoughts for the day. Cheerio.

Really solid post. I will add, the performance we had last year in the playoff game will get us beat. It almost got us beat by a 3rd string QB. Josh has had a very solid two weeks. We will need a clean game from him this week.

Reggie and Bruce are 1 and 2 in sacks, several seasons ahead of 3rd place and both were household names. Bruce had his own commercials with Nike, his own shoes. Bills were on national TV a lot and Bruce was always talked about. Taylor had more pop appeal but Bruce was too good to have somebody's shadow block him out.

I miss watching Thurman on screen plays.

I still think Harris can do some great things for us. He really hasn’t been used much after being hurt in the preseason. Murray can set it up well for Cook. Murray being more of a physical plodder at this point.

This wasn’t exactly the set up Josh had been at risk with historically, but he played even better than to be expected. Great response after a difficult week.

I actually think Allen is a very sensitive person. Probably too much for his own good.

Why is Allen absolved from criticism? Don't most people get criticized when they perform like crap? Isn't Josh making what he is to put up with what happens when you play bad? It's an occupational hazard. I don't agree with the dumb crap, like he's only worried about banging his girlfriend, but fans can and should act as they please (while having some level of human decency). This is entertainment and most of us signed up for a Super Bowl not a divisional playoff win. We have been invested in this most our lives and If Josh plays well, we will be the first to be excited and support him. If anybody who criticizes Josh is actually rooting for him to fail, they can completely piss off. That's not even close to the place this is coming from.

Different eras

I watched every year since 89. He made some dumb plays. I still don't put him in the category of Allen yet. I would have to run the data with some era adjusted factors. But noted dude, it was a long time ago. Both certainly could make some dumb mistakes.

I mean, I care about his coverage more than run support. Did you see the alignment of our d-line on that play? We can't ask a corner to be a Linebacker. His coverage was excellent. He shut Wilson down.
