Ha. I've got 16 shows under my belt. So far it's been a pretty good show. Lots of stuff you normally don't hear (and the usuals -- Fade to Black, Sad But True, and so on). Looking forward to seeing them again with a couple of these songs on the set list.

Black powder is where it's at. I'm not much of a hunter anymore, but I've always wanted to try that. Might be worth picking one up just for the range. In regards to the AK-47, isn't it a 7.62 or some such? If I remember right, that round is on par or slightly "weaker" than the accepted .30-06 or 300 Win. Mag. cartridges that a lot of deer hunters use. Lots of 'assault rifles' were largely designed with a bit of a smaller round in order to reduce recoil (and controllability) when playing in full-auto or burst. I'm all for keeping guns out of of the hands of the mentally retarded, but AD's right with respect to the assault weapons thing. Especially that ban that recently expired. It really only succeeded in banning guns that look scary.

Had to put down one of my best freinds yesterday

Yeah. Like I said, I just went through the same ordeal last week, so I'm a still a bit on the girly side about the whole thing. It is a very nice thought, quite honestly. There's another out there about making the decision to do what Mr From Hemet had to do recently that's equally as "bad." -

I hate that poem. Every time I read it, I get a bit choked up. -

Sorry to hear that man. My mutt of 9 years died last Saturday AM. The night before, she was acting odd and having trouble getting up. She hadn't been eating very good. I went to take them out after I got up and she was just laying there curled up, only she wasn't sleeping. Hard stuff to get over. She was almost like a member of my family. My wife and I got her shortly after we were married. -
What type of cell phone does your teenager have?

What type of cell phone does your teenager have?
mcjeff215 replied to tmk-nj's topic in Off the Wall Archives
This is a bit of a funny thread in that my wife and I have this same conversation all of the time. My oldest daughter is almost seven so we've been trying to guess when she'll first ask for one. My assumption is 10. My wife thinks she'll be a bit older. I'm on the fence. It all depends on how you view them. I wouldn't want her spending time sending stupid text messages to her little friends all of the time and I wouldn't want her even having her own phone line. At the same time, I can *easily* see how it might help her out of a very bad situation. When I was a teenager, I wound up walking home at 11:00PM more than once because of a dead car. While that's fine for a male in 1995, I'd rather not have my daughter having to do the same in 2018. That's a situation where I think taking advantage of the technology makes sense. It could very well keep her safe. It doesn't "build character" or "put hair on your chest" to have to go through that. Especially as a teenage girl. It's simply dangerous. Teenage girls are great at getting into crappy situations. Drunk boyfriends. First taste of the Beam. Sneaking out. So, they've got ones with parental controls and whatnot, no? Where you can program the numbers that can dial out? Seems that's a nice happy medium. Makes good use of the technology for a "real" reason, but doesn't have the drawbacks. When she takes the bill, she can unlock it. That, or I'll buy her a Glock 9. It will keep the scumbags at bay, she can't talk on it, it doesn't take pictures, and they don't jam very often. The decision is still up in the air. I personally hate my damn phone. It's a tether to my job. The downside is that it's required for most people in my line of work. The company pays for it. I just have to keep it on. If it wasn't for my line of work, I'd probably pick up a pre-paid. I see a direct parallel between a Cell phone now and a CB radio for 'the road trip' 20 years ago. -
Yup, but hell.. I just can not make myself watch a sporting event with a delay. It just fells... wrong. I love the Tivo for everything else, though.

I almost have as well. I used to purchase Sunday Ticket every year to get the Bills games. The sheer number of commercials annoyed me so much that I stopped watching everything EXCEPT Bills games. That's a lot of money for 16 (or fewer) uses per year. Instead, I get the Real Audio pass so I can listen to all of the games during the season. I catch a couple on network TV throughout the season usually. I get Center Ice now instead as I can watch a hockey game without having as many commercials jammed down my throat. The flow of the game just doesn't lend itself to an overbearing number of advertisements. With CI, I get all 82 games and playoffs (minus the local coverage), fewer commercials, and it costs a lot less than the NFL package. There's a touch of home in there as well as RJ calls half the games and they include local adverts.
-
I just can't stand it when things pop up on my screen. It feels very much like Internet advertising used to be. The NFL is one of the WORST in terms of overdoing it. "Welcome to the game!" Commercial "And there's the kick off and return!" Commercial "That's 2nd down, time out!" Commercial "Three and Out!" Commercial "Punt!" Commercial And that's on the first possession.

Wife's there now so I've been playing outside with the kids all day.... I've just got to say, it is f&$%ing HOT out there today.

There is a lot of truth in there. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but unless you've got training to deal with situations like that, they really can screw you up. Most people know this and keep going. I had my 5 year old kid with me when I stopped to help that guy on that bike last year. Seeing a victim like that throws you into shock, having my *kid* with me makes it that much worse. She didn't see anything, but having to check her shoes for guts before she gets back into the car... it's a very surreal experience. Normal people, when put into situations like that, do not think clearly. I'd do the same thing again if the situation ever comes back up, though. I'd probably handle it a lot better. I'd argue that if you asked all of those people on the street what they'd do in a situation like that a week before this happened? The vast majority of them would say they'd help. The more this sinks in and the more I think about it, the less I believe the situation was all that horrible. Again, we just got this one on tape.

Holy $#!+ This Guy Is One Tough Bastard!!

Yeah, that stuff seriously sucks. When my wife and I were dating, she used to carry a canister of if around on her key chain. I was f&%king with it and wound up squirting myself square in the freaking forehead. This was at about 3:00AM and she was still living with her parents. Wound up waking the whole house up and everyone filed out in their PJ's. I just wanted to sit down and cry like a girl. That said, it was still possible to function. So fighting through it is clearly possible... (A year later, I got it again because a friend of mine thought he was being 'cute.' He agreed, to let me blast him in the face with it in return. I did. It's a miracle I'm still alive after some of the stupid stuff I've done... rammed into a tree once to see what it'd feel like!) Thread hijacking aside, you're right about genuinely *bad* people. It's a shame. The 'good' in 'normal' people usually leads them to want to help. But sometimes, you've generally just got "bad." If they HAD fought with him, I can just see the headline... 'three police offers beat helpless man stealing worthless junk, race riots at 11.' -
Wife and her friend are going tomorrow, followed by The Melting Pot. No gay germs here. The bad news? They're talking sequel already.

The lawsuit thing crossed my mind when I stopped last year at that motorcycle wreck. I didn't let it bother me too much in that I know that I'm not capable of CPR or pinching off a vein or anything. I wouldn't have tried to play E.R. doctor on some dude in the bushes. I'm capable of doing exactly what the 911 operator tells me to. In that specific case, there wasn't anything that *could* be done. I would have done whatever they asked as long as it didn't jeopardize my own health and safety. I do remember from that situation, though, that the first thing the 911 operator asked me was whether or not he was alive. Breathing? Conscious? Bleeding? In most cases, these aren't questions that can be answered with a 30 foot buffer between the caller and the victim. I honestly wonder if this is the norm, we just happened to get a visual this time. People probably don't stop in general, for fear of both lawsuits and what they might find.
-
You know, I'd stop and do whatever I could. Cover him up, if conscious, get him talking and whatnot to avoid shock. Make sure everyone stayed in the other lane. I stopped last year to help a kid out that wrecked his motorcycle, only to find out that he'd cut himself nearly clear in half on a guard rail. I'd stop in the same situation again today. No question in my book. Someone needs help, you help them. It's not surprising, unfortunately. In reality, he didn't lay there for that long. If was bleeding like crazy, I'm sure witnesses had probably gone into shock, too. When you see this stuff, if you're not trained or used to it, it freaks you the hell out. Still, odd that no one was up by his side.

IMO, at this point if Lynch is guilty, he's gotta go

...40....30....20....10...HE...MIGHT...GO...ALL...THE...WAY! LYNCH! TOUCHD- Whoops, found some football in there. Legality and whatnot aside, I almost hope he was drunk. Sounds odd, but I have a bit more in me to let it go if I know his judgement was actually impaired. If he wasn't putting anything back, then it's hard not to seriously question his character. It doesn't make it alright and drunk drivers are still man-tools, but I have an easier time forgiving a DWI than I do an intentional injury hit-and-run. People do tend to settle on the worst possible scenario, though. A closed door meeting means someone has been fired and such. She very well may have ran out in front of him with a bottle of beer in her hand, slammed into the car, laughed, and ran off. When she noticed she was bleeding like hell, she sat her ass down. Though I highly doubt that was the case. Not that my opinion matters, and assuming the truth is somewhere in the middle, I'm expecting to see a couple/three years of probation, maximum fine, and some type of suspension doled out by the NFL. Unless my rainbow scenario above holds true, he's always going to be a bit of a thug in my book and deserves any bit of punishment he gets. Not sure I want him gone just yet, depends on what really happened. I honestly find it a bit insulting that he'd be so careless in a community that's welcomed him so warmly and put so much faith in him. Disappointing, really. -

I turned on the NHL network a week or so ago just in time to watch the final 4 seconds of game seven of the Buffalo/Carolina ECF. The MCM is much like 'Wide Right.' Every damn time I see either one, I always hope the play turns out differently. A little to the left or a special teams tackle at their 40. You know, maybe next reply will be slightly different... It'd be cool to see someone edit the video to make it turn out that way. Just once!
-
Yeah, I thought so too.... Always better to see it won on home ice, though. Great game, though this kind of fits into the "Gee, another Detroit cup" category.

Great episode. As far as the 'how much time would you do for...' question goes? Not a day. Rephrase it as 'how much time would you do for a crime you didn't commit if we handed you $1.5m?' and the answer might start to change!
