The deep ball will be useful for certain, but if we do not make our run game more viable, last seasons results will be what we get annually. A real damn good passing team, that is one dimensional, and when that dimension has multiple injured/dinged up receivers... We don’t want to be a run first team! What we absolutely need is a run game that has to be accounted for, currently we do not have that, and that makes us easier to defend against, especially in the post season. Luckily we have a GM and HC who know this, and will act upon this shortcoming accordingly.

That is why picks are BPA at positions of need the vast majority of the time, and why a strict very BPA is a rare bird, it’s need driven, and every teams idea of BPA differs by that teams current personnel situation.

It’s worth it only if you still have the finances to have real weapons, to include an Oline so that the QB you gave up huge assets for can actually help your team, and don’t forget you need a defense too. A QB alone can win you some games, but the rest of the structure has to be in place or you are just spinning your wheels.

I suspect it is more a they have “guys” they are targeting at different points during the draft subject to what has transpired as their pick approaches. Not discounting moving up or down, but imo this is a more likely their general thought process.

Every offseason a thread like this appears once or twice, and then mercifully gets forgotten about until the next offseason... it is a ritual, like feeding Vall, It is a thing to do... Next up will be a new colors for our uniforms, and those will be just god awful in every way, and those two will be mercifully forgotten about until next off season as well, all part of the ritual I suppose... They are now one step away from an eighteen game season, bank on that happening in approximately five to ten years. The owners greed knows no bounds, bank on that as well. I’m not saying I agree with this happening, but it’s going to happen.

I’m thinking that drafting a big athletic guy who can cover big athletic TEs and take them to the ground would be a priority, this type of player would help the pass and run defense. This and D and O line monsters. The trenches matter on every single play..,

Beane is Omni aware of his total job responsibilities, and it shows, it’s really nice having bonafide GM calling the shots. It was only a few years back when it we had a string of jags doing that job, and sadly that showed as well, for two decades... Lay off the ganja Ferg... 😁

I do recall that sequence, but in the end they chose a recently back from injury JF over Bates for the task, It appears SM/BD thought having a known entity and a starting O line player with center skills was the preferred choice over Bates, even though Bates could have taken snaps at center, It May as well have had a bit to do with the comfort and confidence of that selection for our QB, as he and JF seem to have established a very good chemistry early on...,

From a fans view, sure, but having JF already a starter with center skills was the more likely choice at that time, coaches are always looking at a bigger picture than the fan base is, just the nature of those that do the job vs those that are watching the job done from a distance...

I think the real question here is, what’s the over/under on games played before he is out injured... with Sammy it could happen in the preseason...

It sure is! that’s how it goes when your team no longer sucks, and players want to be on the team because they see a championship in their futures.

Not if he is kept under the exemption, he can neither play nor be poached by another team.

Does this do anything for Wade, outside of him getting paid a few hundred thousand dollars a year to workout? Unless he is actually developing requisite skills to actually make the 53, which it doesn’t appear so at present, he is still trapped on the PS. For him it’s like being a kid getting paid to go to football camp, it is an excellent gig imo, 👍
