My Off-Season Primer: Position Group: OL
MasterStrategist replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent write ups on all the position groups. I am likely in the minority, but think Ford can become a very good RT. I agree that signing Spain back, should be priority #1. Consistency is key, but especially at the offensive line. It is unusual to have 4 new starters on the oline during a season. and think the progression as a unit in year 2 will be noticable. I know this is oline discussion, but top priorities for this team is defensive end, WR, then RB..imo. Singletary is going to be a good one, but zero depth and would be a nice compliment with a speed and power back (think Ravens with Ingram, do it all then Edward's as power and justice hill speed). At def end, Hughes still has enough juice to be disruptive, but Murphy, Lawson (who I dont think will be resigned), and Johnson...Meh. surprised our defense performed as well as it did, and it severely impacted turnovers with lack of quick pressure....this defense plays so fundamentally sound and the scheme is bend, no break that it disguises a ton of pressure packages. We desperately need an upgrade of talent here. wide receiver is so obvious too. similar to def end, but at least we have 2 quality starters in Smoke and Beas. But depth is a huge concern and Josh just needs more options, when Beas is bracketed and Brown is doubled or matched against top corners. In addition to being very important to Allen's development, this offense needs some playmakers who can deliver big plays. Josh and the offense progressed nicely this year, especially at building long sustained drives. But they struggled to turn into points too many times, and our lack of big plays definitely didn't help. -
The plan to replace Lorenzo Alexander?

I think Dupree is more a jerry Hughes position compare. Hes likely going to resigned by steelers, but if not, his asking price is going to be top defensive end/edge money, not Sam linebacker type deal -
Biggest Bills needs this offseason
MasterStrategist replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nailed it! Except I would also add a Sam lb to this list with Zo retiring. And would bump an outside corner, above RB as a need. Wallace is serviceable in our cover3/cover 4 scheme, but depth is horrible and would be nice to run more man. -
Playoff #1 Bills @ Texans PostGame Thread
MasterStrategist replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
all we can do now is learn from our mistakes and move forward. Too many missed opportunities, but keeping in mind we are built to complete going forward, we need to make smart offseason signings, young guys need to keep progressing, and keep drafting well. -

Also, I will say that Daboll comes across as the tough/"old school" coach, meaning he sees so much more potential in josh. I see alot of constructive criticism, as opposed to raining him with compliments...both coaching styles are successful, that is just who Daboll is. Time will tell if it 'meshes' with Josh. but so far I'd say Josh is on the right path. Btw, that Frazier interview was also impressive. Both Frazier and Daboll have that leadership that goes beyond X & Os, just thankful we have such a great staff in place, hopefully can keep that going for a long time! -

Haha exactly. mcdermott was not going to volunteer any of that info on injured players lol. Good for him though, as fans we want to know right now what the status is of the players, but keep Houston guessing. Although Levi is no Tre White. hes still a very good player, and has been successful in a rotation with johnson throughout the 2nd half of season. If he indeed had a low grade sprain, I think he will play. Nsekhe. I'd be shocked if hes back. Hoping that Shaqs hammy is resting and healing well. -

I took his response to the Josh question to be that he just doesn't want to reflect on that, until after the season. Maybe there's more to it, as you said, but Daboll seems like a straight shooter. Regarding the JJ Watt and Mercilus comment. maybe I'm hearing his answer differently, but the question was focused on JJ then Daboll brought up that they also have a 'pretty good player' in Mercillus. Took that response. as a nice compliment to Mercillus, not a dig -
NFL Black Monday - Coaching Changes
MasterStrategist replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Living in Pittsburgh, losing to new England "used to be" the concern/issue. Over the past few years. it's been the steelers 'playing down' to competition and losing games they have no business losing. The past 2 years, it has cost them a playoff berth. Injuries hit them hard this year, but they should have won last week and got steamrolled (over 200 yards rushing against) by thr baltimore backups today -

This.... But next year might be it, many rumors that the Rooney's and ownership.group is growing very impatient sound like a steeler fan type of reply....how many super bowls do we have? lol. Most of those coming in the 70s, and Ben's time winding down, I think tomlin still leaves much to be desired. That said, that organization wont fire him this year -
Week 17: NJ Jets at Buffalo Bills PostGame

Not minor, but considering our relatively fortunate season (knock on wood) with injuries, overall it is a good situation heading into week 1 of playoffs. -

exactly, encouraging that johnson and neal both returned. Nsekhe is done. same ankle as before -
This is way off topic, so apologize for that... but it's simple math: 1. century=100 years. so if you want to go back to 1st day AD then that year through 99 is considered 1st century (100 years) then 2nd century would begin on year 100. 2. decade=10 years. same concept as above. 1st day of time for 10 years would go through last day of year 9. beginning year 10 would be 2nd decade

Not someone to blame officiating, but that overturned fumble recovery was a game changing play....and totally botched. The explanation by the college rules analyst was equally as bad. Several feet/steps down, ball controlled then outstretching the ball...doesn't matter if forward or toward your own goaline....that's the definition of possession and a football move
-
Buckeye nation just jumped up on that list....
-
Competive juices always going, preseason, game 1, game 16, playoffs....doesn't matter. I'm still pumped, and I'm sure mcdermott isn't going to let these guys go out and play laissez faire either. That's how you get hurt...need to keep the same routine, same focus and if we pull starters, I'm still excited to see some other guys get a shot.

So when a century ends...1900 to 2000s, you say we are still in the 1900s in 2000? lol, same.concept with a decade, 2010-2019 is the 2010s.

Watt designated to return from IR

Yeah so what?! lol, we won the game. thought the original point was discussing pitts offensive line? Anyhow, Pitts issues or lack of maximizing their talent, is their problem -
Watt designated to return from IR
MasterStrategist replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I must be missing your earlier point. But yeah, duck was driving needing a td, where that only happened on like 2 of his past 20+ plus drives....mcdermott playing the odds and keeping it real conservative on our last series. Tj Watt having an unreal season is what jumpstarted that team and allowed them to rush 4 and still generate pressure....that team has found ways to blow playoff opportunities the past 2 seasons when everything is on the line
