There was nothing Sean McDermott could have done defensively to stop the Chiefs. We were down to our 3rd, 4th and 5th string LB. Rasul Douglass wasn’t himself. They were just too banged up at too many key positions and Mahomes/Reid took advantage of it.

That game had to be won upfront. The defensive line was our best unit all season and they were a total no show

    Then maybe start Elam?

13 out of 14 teams in the playoffs lose.  Winners demand more?  That is hilarious.  You are on a couch FFS.

Who said anything about winning the Super Bowl?  It would be nice to get to afc championship games and not lose in the wild card or divisional playoff rounds with a franchise qb who even on his best days is not good enough. Dude is virtually flawless come playoffs and it still isn’t enough. That’s a problem.

You got to get to big playoff games.  And then 1 out of 14 teams wins it all.  Maybe a 8-9 team would be better for the mental health of this board.  Losers are more comfortable with losing.

Isn’t that what we have been doing the past few years in the divisional round?  I mean damn I guess it’s great if you are just happy to be there every year. That my friend is the definition of a loser.  Winners expect and demand more.

Why are they morons? Sean continues to lose big playoff games, he wasn’t great for half of this season as well…. What are we talking about here?

Exactly. The irony is that we foolishly continue to believe that we will have a different outcome every year.  When the very definition of moron is stupid and foolish. But hey go figure.

I agree with the no excuses. Both tomorrow and moving forward in the playoffs, should Buffalo advance.

It's all right in front of them. An almost perfect path back to at minimum the AFCCG. We have the team viewed as the worst team in the entire playoffs, at home and missing their best player with Mason Rudolph starting at QB. There is no reason to lose this. And should they win, we get a Chiefs team that is the least dangerous version of that team we have seen in the Mahomes era.  And we get that game at home.

This is the year that McDermott can vanquish a LOT of the demons that have surrounded this team during his tenure. If he can get the Bills back to MINIMUM the AFCCG, a lot of the naysayers disappear. Stumble against the Steelers or get bounced by the Chiefs yet again and it will be a looooong off-season in WNY.

This is exactly to the heart of the matter.  Bills make it to the afc championship and lose a close one, I’m sure a lot of the naysayers quiet down. Lose a home game either this week or next week and it only reinforces what they have been saying all along.

Remember years ago when we had nothing to play for, then KO'd the Fitzpatrick Jets from getting in the playoffs?

Even though we have Miami after this, it'd still feel the same way... Hard to imagine winning in the playoffs if the Pats sweep us 😅

Exactly.  Especially after your season is on the line at home as a 13 point favorite against a 4 win team.  Absurd to think otherwise.

I've just been focusing on less perfect scenarios, looking at ways beyond going on a 5 win streak to close the season. Some other scenarios include:

Scenario 1 - Bills lose to the Cowboys and Dolphins. There's still a lot of ways the Bills could make the playoffs, mainly because a lot of the 7-6 teams play each other.

Scenario 2 - Bills beat the Cowboys, but inexplicably lose a game to the Chargers OR Patriots, as well as the Dolphins. Pretty similar to Scenario 1, though a Browns collapse gave me way more results with the Bills making it in.

Scenario 3 (BEST) - Bills lose to the Cowboys, but go on to win their next 3 games. Aside from winning out, this is the option that offers the most flexibility (shocker, 3 wins is better than 2 wins). After messing with the playoff simulator for what feels like millions of hours, you get a ton of ways the Bills make it in.

You could have all 4 NFC North teams finish above .500, Dolphins still take the AFC East, plus both the Jags & Texans getting in, and the Bills at 10-7 would still make it in under most scenarios. As long as the Broncos *OR* Texans lose 2 x games, 10 wins is VERY LIKELY to get the Bills in.

If not, teams like the Colts, Texans, Broncos and the Browns *OR* Bengals *OR* Steelers all finish 10-7, the Bills get in. We just couldn't have 3 x teams in the AFC North at 10-7 or better (in this scenario). Thankfully, a lot of these 7-6 teams play each other to close the year.

    Week 15: Steelers at Colts

Week 16: Bengals at Steelers / Browns at Texans

Week 17: Bengals at Chiefs (even if the Bills finish 9-8, a Chiefs win here with the rest of the matchups could still get us in with the first 2 scenarios)

Week 18: Browns at Bengals / Texans at Colts

Note: One game to really watch is week 18 Steelers at Ravens. If the Ravens & Chiefs both keep winning, Baltimore may be resting starters here, which could really hurt us.

Absolutely not.  9-8 is not getting you into the playoffs let alone, “still a lot of ways”. In this scenario the bills would have a 3 percent chance.

No you GTFOH with your bs.

Not everything that has happened with this team falls on McD.  Personnel. Gameplan on all three sides.  Injury. Outside distraction. Weather.  Matchup. Draft picks.

Just a few things that need to go right as well, other than our horribly inept coach, in order to produce a better season.

Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face.

Well I guess we can agree to disagree.  You are not entirely wrong in some of your assessments. However how much of the blame that goes around is a matter of opinion. It does not necessarily mean that either one of us is wrong.  At this point I certainly don’t want to hear about how Sean has to deal with fans and social media.  I’m tired of excuses.  Either you are or you are not. Maybe they come through today and win out.  Awesome!!  But until that happens I will continue to remain skeptical.

Hard to predict game.  It’s a shame though the coach has to deal with social media and most of the fanbase throwing stones, instead of focusing entirely on game plan and prep.  Disgusting.

No.  What’s disgusting is that we are even in this position to begin with.  The fan base “throwing stones”, has nothing to do with it.  And if a professional making millions of dollars per year can’t tune out the noise to do their job, then you shouldn’t be in that position to begin with. Blaming the fans and social media because you can’t prepare.  Gtfoh with that bs.

Were  you in favor the Bills firing Dorsey at the time it happened?

Did you think his leadership of the offense was a major problem for the Bills and a significant reason why they lost games this year?

Just curious about the mindset here..

I was. But I also think a bigger problem is McDermotts brand of football. Playing not to lose as opposed to playing to win.  I will not go into a long diatribe to support my reasons.  (The body of work speaks for itself).  Playing scared is not a good recipe for success.  The blame in my opinion begins and ends with McDermott.   Getting rid of oc, dc, wr special teams coordinators etc is a microcosm of a bigger problem.  One is only as good as their boss allows them to be. The same common denominator is McDermott.  Dorsey needed to go because of his stupid play calling. (Shotgun on 3rd and 1 at goalie.  Not once but twice.  That Philly game accentuates why McDermott needs to go.  He knelt with 20 seconds left could have had 2 timeouts with josh Allen and a fog kicker who can kick bombs.  Unacceptable. McDermott would have been gone after the  13 seconds debacle if I were the owner.  Still waiting to hear about accountability regarding that.

Why in the world is everyone so confident? Listening to WGR, I’m hearing positivity from the typical talking heads about the Bills running the table when we can’t beat the Broncos, Pats or Jets. Baffling

    KC 24

    BUF 17

It really is. Add the giants to that.  1 yd away from 5-7.  It’s the nfl. Anything can happen, however anyone thinking that this is more probable than not is being delusional. If we win the next five awesome.  I would be curious to see what the McDermott apologists will be saying if we lose on the last drive because we defer to our defense to make the stop.

I laugh at the one sided hit job. First there was some positive in there on him. And if macdermott gave him something positive to talk about maybe he would have. But that is not macdermotts personality. The guy is a narcissist control freak. That is what the article is about. This team is tanking and it shouldn’t be. This is a big reason why it is. Dunn laid that out for us. This team is tighter than a nuns wowo and it it’s a reflection of the head coach.

I don’t know, we live in a new world today.

That’s ironic. Because for me the 80’s and early 90’s were the only time that made sense to me.

And you realize, then, that the only coaching answers are AR and BB? Because they’ve been the only coaches to consistently get there?

I get McD isn’t perfect, and may never win a SB even with an elite QB. Shoot, it may take lighting in a bottle to get one, but fans complaints also explain 99% of the coaches out there.

I get we likely need to move on, but this mindset that he is easily replaceable is baffling to me.

    As evident to…?

I distinctly remember a coach named marv levy getting to afc championships and superbowls.

  15. 35 minutes ago, alluro said:

As it should be. 35 consecutive regular season games of losing by one score or less. We are always in these contests. The next closest coach has like 13.

I guess if the goal every year is to be relevant, sniff the playoffs or lose in the first or second due to poor coaching decisions, then I would say yes he is our man. If the goal is to regularly compete in afc championship games and super bowls, sadly he is not the answer.
