What’s your earliest memory of the Buffalo Bills?
hjnick replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't remember the exact year, but I remember seeing Joe Ferguson at QB and Joe Cribbs at RB. I think it was Chuck Knox was coach. -
I don't know how Beane is pulling off all this resigning magic, but wow. With these resigning, places where could be the best to upgrade is: CB, RB, WR, TE. Now, I do not want to draft a RB at 30, but I can now see how Beane could if he wanted to with these resigning filling major holes. I still think trading back is the right move back. Grab another pick in the 2nd or 3rd round (throw in a late draft pick if needed). I'd still like to get a G/C, DT (big fatty), WR, RB, CB2 in the early rounds of the draft.

I was just listening to a podcast talking about the potential for a Russell Wilson trade to Chicago. They were saying that Seattle would have to take a 32MIL cap hit this year to trade him and if they waited until June 1 they could spread it over 2 years, BUT you can't get any picks this year in the draft for compensation. Also, Seattle is only 5 MIL under the cap right now, so they would actually have to cut players to trade Wilson and if they got Mack back in the deal, they would have to open up even MORE cap space to accommodate his salary (14MIL I think). It sounds like Seattle does not want to trade Wilson, but he really wants out of Seattle (also like Watson in Houston). So, why does Seattle or Houston have to bend over and take such a large cap hit to trade these players? They should ask Wilson or Watson to return a large chunk of their signing bonus back to the team, which would lessen they cap hit on the team, which would make them more easier to trade. THEN let Wilson or Watson renegotiate before the trade with their new team for a contract to get them REPAID (eventually). I think this is a fair way to get a player moved and the team doesn't have to take such a drastic cap hit and have to cut players just to trade a player.

I think this offseason will play to Beane's strengths. I think he will not be active in early free agency. He will wait his time until some good players still will not have teams and when pick up quality backups at multiple positions. I think he will draft a guard/center early in the draft, a DT space eater so he can jettison Star's contract next year, a mid round RB (would love Chubba Hubbard here), another WR to fight for playing time.
-
My philosophy on this is the opposite, I'd like to pick up a RB in almost every draft in the mid to late rounds and just keep cycling thru them cheaply. We will win based on Allen's arm, not who is running behind them. Eventually, you will find good runners in the later rounds. (cheaply)

Who? -
Kylin is a beast. I like him and Chubba Hubbard in the mid/late rounds as a RB pick. Chubba is very fast. We need another running back in the stable...

You do know that a certain percent of the revenues goes to player salaries per the CBA? and that number is around 50%. Now there are loopholes and exceptions to some of that revenue, but the vast majority of all revenue is counted. Also, the owners have been trying to get the cap higher by 'stealing' from future years revenues so the hit this year won't be has bad. That's why is is UP to 180 MIL and not even lower. This is also why the NFL is trying to get the new TV deals done now, (for more money in their pockets), but to also bring in additional revenue for the cap. -
I hope not. I think this year's draft looks really good for a trade back and picking up extra picks. Seems to be pretty deep this year.
-
What if we traded back with our first pick, picked up an early 3rd round pick in exchange. Then we could pick up Dickerson, maybe an OT or LB with our second round pick, and then Shelvin in the early 3rd?
-
I think all this 'privileged' people's whining is going to force a change in contracts that they sign. I think a number of teams wouldn't mind getting rid of some of their high cost talent. The only real problem they have is the cap hit they would need to take to jettison them from the team. So teams are going to start putting wording into contracts where if you request a trade, you will need to give back some guaranteed money, which will lessen the cap hit, so those players can get moved easier because the big hits come from the guaranteed money you gave them up front. If a player wants a new view or a change of scenery, pay for it.

Well, assuming that Ossai is any good... (all Texas players suck. ) I’m sold on that video. Draft that dude. -
Well, a year ago, another premium Top 10 WR went for a 2nd Round pick and a case of Budweiser... so, at the time, a 1st was a little rich IMO. Plus look at what was available (drafted) with our pick. I think I said I wanted to give up a 2nd rounder (plus maybe other picks) for Diggs bc we needed that 1st round pick for other needs. In hindsight, after seeing how well everything turned out, it was a win-win for both teams.

Well, it's not like we are going to play 2 TE's the whole time. I really like Beas and I hope we sign him to an extension. He has been great for the team. Could you play Beas opposite of Diggs in a 2 TE set? or is that what you would do instead of Gabe?
